Well, looking a falcon 9 and electron, I believe that the optimum engine ratio in real life is about 9 to 1. The difference can be contributed by the different drag, flight profile. -

Why SpaceX does not use gridfins for second stage canards and wings? They save material. And spaceX well understands the dynamics of a gridfin, they use it. -

Yeah, I would like that to be fixed too. V 1.6 added some new functions to furthur fine tune the legs. Did you try those? -

Change the rescale factor to 0.5 -
Always have solar, just in case jeb ejected in space. Plus solar panels look nice. I blieve the reqction wheels were too weak, sometimes RCS is really helpful in manouvering.

Try using larger wheels. I am not rover expert, but larger wheels are significantly harder to pop. -
