  1. @Xurkitree Congrats on completing the challenge! Even though, as @Rocket In My Pocket pointed out, your system isn't separate from the pizza, there were too many explosions for me to not accept it. Plus, I don't want to edit the rules because im lazy restrict entries too much; a lot of the fun in this challenge (imo at least) is seeing all of the crazy ways that players cut the pizza. Nice score, too.

edit: Xurkitree, your score will be based on the part count with clamps and mechjeb.

  2. Wow, plenty of activity already! :)

@Kergarin No, the center adapter can't be cut. It is kind of an arbitrary rule, but imo it's simpler to just cut one type of piece.

@Rocket In My Pocket Congrats and thanks for being the first entry. You've got a very cool design! Feel free to add the badge to your signature if you feel like it. You'll be added to the leaderboard. I'll have to think about points for doing it in IVA.

@Gaarst Wow, very nice design. Can you provide a screenshot showing that you've completed the challenge (the cut 'pizza' with your pizza cutter)? Also, since you haven't given any scoring I'll assume that you aren't trying to go for points. In any case, once again, great design.

  3. Hi all, this is my first challenge, so hope it works out...

To celebrate the success of the Carbart Lithobraker, the engineers at the VAB have cooked up a prize, the Pizza. There's just one small issue: for "structural integrity", the engineers used aerodynamic fins. Of course, this was fine until the manager of the KSC revealed that they wanted the pizza to be sliced live. So now, they need something to 'cut' it.

    fTmupEL.png

Basically, destroy all of the gray/yellow aero fins.

    Rules:

    • You must destroy all of the yellow fins.
      • This can be done by pointing an engine at it, hitting it with something, etc. By no means are these the only methods, though.
    • Do not destroy any other parts on the 'pizza'
    • No HyperEdit, debug cheats, or using part offset to spawn the craft high up, to the side, etc
    • No Whack-a-Kerbal
    • No two-capsule rollers or the like (ex. two mk1 capsules attached together and spun around)
    • VesselMover is recommended to move the 'pizza' to any location; however, VesselMover can't be used to move your craft that will complete the challenge; if the pizza cutter is connected to the pizza, then VesselMover can't be used; VesselMover is only allowed for just the pizza (eg placing it on the VAB helipad or off the runway).
    • Modded crafts are allowed but will be put on their own leaderboard
    • Parts can be detached (such as bombs), the scoring will count for both the detached part and the craft that carries it to the target
    • The craft can be unmanned
    • Provide video evidence or a screenshots, including one of your craft and the cut-up pizza.

    Get the pizza here: https://kerbalx.com/Alienonawall/Pizza.

Just load it and place it wherever you want.

*note: the part count is relatively high (104 parts)

    Scoring:

    Spoiler

    Lowest score wins!

    • +1/2pts for every second (from 1st fin destroyed to last fin destroyed)
    • +1pts for every unit of Liquid fuel used
    • +1pts for every unit of Oxidizer used
    • +1/2pts for every unit of Solid Fuel used
    • +1pts for every part (so for ex if your vessel has 30 parts add 30 points)
    • -50pts for completing the challenge under 1:30
    • -100pts for completing the challenge under 1:00
    • -25pts for having the pizza on a mountain
    • -50pts for having the pizza on any of the helipads on the KSC

    Leaderboard:

    Stock:

    1. @bitzoid: -58 pts

    2. [example entry] @Alienwall: 259 pts

    3. @Rocket In My Pocket: 568.5 pts

    Modded:

    1. @Xurkitree: 70.9pts

Here's my entry, as an example:

    So my score is: 84pts (OX) + 68pts (LF) + 79pts (time) + 28pts (part count) = 259 points.

    Badge:

For completing the challenge (regardless of score,) here's the badge:

While it's a nice rescue mission, I can't award the badge for it. The rules state that you must do the missions in the right order, and you skipped STS-3 (the Hubble). I understand it will probably need a new shuttle design, but as the later missions require a large cargo capacity, you'll eventually need to design one anyway.

When you complete the STS-3, I'll gladly award you the badge for this mission though ;)

Alright, looks like it's time to upscale/ make a tiny telescope.

    Welcome to the challenge!

Thats a really nice peewee shuttle you have there :) It seems it has a pretty goog gliding capacity too, and you hit the runway quite precisely!

Your missions indeed do qualify for the STS-1a and STS-1T badges, wear the proudly!

    Haha, thanks!

About the cargo question - yes, it has to be in a cargo bay. If this wasn't the case, people would just launch a rocket with a cargo and slap a small shuttle next to it, which is not the spirit of this challenge. You will probably need to design a new, bigger shuttle for some of the missions here.

Ok, thanks for responding. I’ll probably add a cargo bay to it in that case.

  6. Hi, this challenge looks cool! I made a stock replica of the Sierra Nevada Corp.'s Dream Chaser. Here it is doing STS-1T and STS-1a:

    Spoiler

Also, does cargo need to be carried up in a cargo bay, or can it be attached to the end of the shuttle, where the rocket would lift it up and detach so that the shuttle would be used as a sort of tug?

  7. The Golden Ratio Corporation proudly announces its first product, the GRJ-001!

This line of small regional jets promises great STOL use.

...is that it? I thought we were gonna be more ambitious-

For under 30,000,000 kerbucks you've gotta try it!

This is the GRJ-001. It has a capacity of 40 kerbals and take off/landing speeds at or below 35 m/s. It has plenty of fuel already, but also includes space for 80 extra units in the nose adapter. We recommend flying it at ~290 m/s at 9000m. Costs :funds:26,307,000.

And this is the GRJ-001C, the cargo variant. It has an extra cargo pod on the bottom which can fit many things, from extra suitcases to sacrifices extra kerbals. It also serves as a pontoon. We recommend flying it at ~276 m/s at 8000m. Costs :funds:28,151,800. (if used in water landing speed shouldn't exceed 60 m/s).

    Get both of these today!
