  1. So this is part of the First Flight Canon? Or is it separate?
  2. Roving halfway across Minmus with a horse which thinks it's a cat took longer than expected. Here ends Chapter 2. Did I plan the Cygnus' landing? You'll never know... I hope you like the change in format. It's more wordy. I like words. It also allows me to differentiate between Val-who-talks-in-Lucida-Handwriting and Gersy (my other Command pilot) who talks in, well, I haven't decided, but it's probably Edwardian Script ITC. And finally... well, no there isn't really a window to Eki, it's a shiny space rock at the L4 lagrange point. The window saves about 100m/s dV according to TWP. But yes... our first interplanetary flight. With the KSS Whimsical Name. Because that is a whimsical name, isn't it? I like the sound of the KSS Whimsy. Plus a supporting cast of Several Whitesuits, Gene, Wernher, Linus, Mort etc. I haven't decided entirely who will be on what.
  3. Kraken, it really has been nearly a year... Also, the Kraken reminds me of that party in H2G2. The one which flew around the world, raiding vinyards.
  4. I'm not sure having 2 poodles on a ship that small is the way to go. Also: Why the fairings? And the massive antenna? You can patch through to your commnet sattelites with only a small antenna, which can be any of them. Which of course you have ready to launch, complete with ore scanner to find the best mining spots. As well as this, the bigger drills and Convert-O-Tron are actually better value, as they drill faster and the big Convert-O-Tron converts more efficiently.
  5. I was thinking more like: you build a craft with pieces to build your base, the game flies it to the location based on dV requirements, transfer windows etc and it arrives on the surface, where you start assembly. You have to make it self sufficient and also make the KSP profitable if you want supplies sent in from home. I was thinking more of a resource management and base expansion game, with multiple factors to make up for the absence of actual flight. I was also thinking you could be able to launch craft from your base.
  6. The point is not that they are pointless! The point is that death and destruction are in themselves inherently pointless and evil. I do not understand why people would wantonly add in destruction to a peaceful game. The only time I would ever agree with that sort of thing is in self defence, when all other options are expired. And I am not making ICBMs. ICBMs are designed to explode and kill. My rockets and (when I have RAPIERs unlocked) spaceplanes are designed to explore the Kerbin system + whatever planet packs I have. No rocket built by my space program is designed to kill any kerbal and I hope none will. Also, we are now off topic. I would prefer not to have a spinoff game, but I would not mind one where you manage a base or station in different places in the stock system. It should be equally mod-able so you could tie it into KSP if you had, say, OPM or TAC-LS.
  7. I agree with KSK etc. The armoury mods are extremely depressing and they represent an aspect of humanity I hate. Why do people need to change peaceful exploration into a game of death and destruction? The above images from the end of Kerbfleet: A Jool Odyssey, Ch19 Their Finest Hour, by Kuzzter.
  8. It is nobody's job. DANGER! DO NOT POKE THE WRITERS THEY WILL BITE ANY DAMAGE INCURRED IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE FORUM AND WILL NOT BE COMPENSATED
  9. I prefer mainly 2.5m for the labs and the medium-sized fuel tanks, though to be honest I prefer to use bases to refuel. I also like the DLC 1.875m parts because they are easier to carry into LKO.
  10. KSP has updated to 1.7.3, so 2 things: 1. I have finished playing with helicopter blades and grip pads, so I am going to have the Taurus I on Minmus tomorrow IRL at the latest. 2. Kopernicus has updated, so I have installed MIP by @KerikBalm and so I now have a couple more bodies to explore! Some interplanetary expeditions will be coming up soon. Although, due to the sacred force of continuity, I am deleting the file KerbinMoons.cfg, which swaps the Mun and Minmus.
  11. The last thing on my clipboard is https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000571d. Yes, I listen to the radio. What, does that make me older than people who are in reality twice as old as me?
  12. That is one of the best lines I have read! On a par with "MY NAME IS PIPER!" and "Any landing you can walk away from..."!
  13. Does this work with 1.7.3? I have got a 'Productivity 0' and a build time of '0% and 0s'. There is nothing on the K&K PBS pad and the K&K hab is filled with 5-star engineers, yet the productivity is still 0.
  14. Don't do that! Mainly because there are plenty of better designs out there than mine, also because I use ReStock and ReStock+ (gives better textures in my opinion) and finally because I am playing on Moderate mode (it's one harder than Normal) and so you have way more parts unlocked than me. Also, it'll be a pretty basic Minmus station. Just a tank of fuel for the lander, a tank of liquid fuel for the nuclear powered transfer vessels, a lab and a recycling module (because USI-LS). Nothing as fancy as Weather Station. EDIT: And here is a science rover to get some of the first results to be analysed at Weather Station or Mint Station (I've invented a name!). The Taurus I is going to land on Minmus and get lots of science from lots of biomes! And then it will do the same on the Mun, as part of our upcoming Munbase contract project.
  15. I would imagine that outside the station it is a couple of degrees, same as everywhere in space (CMB and all that). Inside, it is a balmy 300-odd degrees. Kelvin! I meant degrees Kelvin! I promise I do not fry my kerbals for fun! (For plot, that is another matter...) In other news, I have overcome my boredom with a photo montage! And also with the introduction of Walt. For when you just need to break that (4th) wall. I had a bit of an issue with the contract not completing. Eventually I figured out it was because the Cygnus (which had Lt. Commander Val on it) was an older craft and it has to be a new station. So I undocked and got that nice green symbol in the message box! Tune in next time for the establishment of a Munstation... or maybe a Minmusstation. They will have proper (ie inventive) names which will not be in Latin. Also, I have made a little rover. Top speed 30m/s on the Kerbin flats should be much easier for a little biome hopping.
  16. I definitely think surface bases need a revamp. I play with K&K Planetary Base Systems and I actually build bases! As opposed to what I usually do, which is make a miner and put a refinery in orbit.
  17. In my mind you look different. You have short hair, no nose and green skin In fact I think of all users as Kerbals.
  18. Sorry for not updating yesterday, I was so fed up with docking craft with off-CoM RCS to create my station I didn't want to create panels. So I made an ultralight SSTO in my sandbox save instead, and put it on KerbalX. Here is a picture of Weather Station up and running: The craft docked to it are: Val's Cygnus I, and the little docking tug which I am going to deorbit.
  19. Dres was the industrial heart of my original save (sandbox, many many many many mods) until the kraken ate the game due to the tasty mod-flavourings.
  20. I'm currently playing with settings known as Moderate + Waiting for Kopernicus. So I'm not going out of Kerbin SOI until Kopernicus updates. @Geschosskopf: Does the Circus still run? Last I heard, there was a strange cutoff in the thread around the weird Laythean people.
  21. Do you have NERVAs yet? They will make this sort of voyage much easier. By your picture it looks like you are using a Skipper/Mainsail, those are really inefficient. I tried using one of those engines to go to Duna in my 2nd week playing. I stranded myself in orbit of Duna. It was very annoying.
  22. Here is Beepy Probe! Beeping its way to transmit temperature readings across (one area of) the Mun, grabbing temp and pressure readings from the Lowlands, Midland Craters, Highlands and finally the Canyons. It was going to do the East Farside Crater, but driving for hours at 10m/s is really really boring. So I just grabbed enough science to unlock the beige rover wheels (the ones which ship with the retractable ones). Also, anyone know if there are any more formations than just the stones, the Mun crater and the bigger Mun crater? Or the sandstone and the Olivine formation on Minmus? Tune in next time for (finally) the construction of Weather Station!
