My KSP time is halved, as my laptop's charger failed a few days ago. Moreover, since there is a 15 day lockdown imposed in my city, I can't get it repaired, or buy a new one either. Until then I am stuck using my roomie's old laptop. It has only 4 GB RAM and an AMD Radeon R5 M330, so its just about useless. It heats up like a stove within half an hour of playing the game. But it is still better than nothing. Nevertheless, over the past few days I managed to get quite a few things done. I undertook another surface sortie mission to the Munar surface, and one to Minmus. The science haul was phenomenal. Also, I love this vehicle! I wanted to recover the science, but I did not want the crew to come back. They are busy researching on the science lab at my 'Gateway' polar Mun station. So I sent a sample return vehicle to get the science. I managed to get almost 7600 science points and unlocked most of the tech tree with the last few nodes remaining. But, those last few nodes are worth 23,000 science points. So I guess I will have to work for it. There was also a contract for dropping a base on Minmus, and I was planning a fuel refinery on that icy moonlet anyway. I made a fatal mistake, however. I used Convertron-125s.... The most useless part in my opinion. Grossly inefficient and wasteful, and always overheats! I started assembling the propulsion stage of my Duna ship and experimented with 'double docking' and I must say, I LOVE IT! I was a bundle of nerves when I docked the drop tank to the core stage, but it was very satisfying. I also got one really cash-money contract to Gilly. This, along with other Eve-Gilly contracts would be worth 10.7 million! That's as much as my treasury at the moment. Mortimer would be pleased~ Also, what is the best way to level up my crew? How much can I level up my kerbals (1 star, all of them) in the Kerbin system alone?

totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Selective Genius replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
Well I dont know if you can consider this a song, but this has been ringing in my head all day. -
I finished the 'Gateway Station' and completed the second Mun surface sortie, visiting an collecting data from 3 biomes. This sortie, along with a previous one netted me 4500 science. The Surface Sortie Vehicle is at the top, followed by the fuel depot/docking hub/batterypack section. Then we have the Hab and Lab section, followed by the docked Crew Transfer Vehicle. The surface sortie vehicle in action. It is nothing too impressive. Just a bare bone vehicle to collect science and level up the crew. Has 3000 m/s of delta V just about enough to land, hop on three nearby biomes and get back to orbit to the station, so that's pretty neat, I guess. I had planned to extract every last drop of science by using the Mobile Processing Lab, but the first Duna transfer window of this career is in 110 days, and I wanted all the science ASAP to unlock the parts that I would need to fully explore Duna and Ike (ISRU equipments, resource survey stuff, Better comms, Rover wheels, etc..) So the crew was instructed to return back to Kerbin with the science. There's still some tech nodes to research, so I plan to send a couple surface sortie missions to Minmus to mine the science that I don't have.

It's too early in the season to be honest. Usually by now its mid-season and teams have their cars fully figured out. But this just being the third race of the 2020 season, drivers and engineers still have some catching up to do with their respective cars. Red Bull had some major balancing issues during Qualifying at Hungary which led to steering issues and violent vibrations in the cars, so I was concerned. Thankfully they sorted it out before the race. Ferrari built a cheaty power unit that allowed them race victories in the last season, this time not so much. In fact the difference is such that Hamilton lapped both Ferraris at Hungary yesterday. Eh, I was comparing the Racing Points to the Ferrari because the Ferraris were just behind at 5th and 6th in Qualifying. The Ferraris had absolutely abysmal race pace though, compared to the 2 Mercedes and Max Verstappen (Red Bull). And Hungaroring is a track which depends more on the aerodynamics of the car, not the engine. Just the opposite of the previous races at Austria which HEAVILY relied on power units. That's why Ferrari had better qualifying results. Ferrari is going to be so humiliated at Monza, even more than Austria considering Monza is the lowest downforce track on the calender..... ***** Now, to the complaining part: So, the Hungarian F1 GP happened yesterday. However a few hours before race started, I had an argument with my roomie about Fernando Alonso joining Renault. It was an intense argument and she lost. Being the vengeful spirit that she is, she did not let me watch the race and commandeered the TV to watch a soap opera.... I was waiting 2 weeks for this, man. 2 weeks. I just watched the live standings on google and pretended in my head that I was actually watching the race...

Formula 1 Hungarian GP Qualifying happened a few hours ago before I went to sleep. And Mercedes, which have been nigh untouchable since 2014, once again got the first two position, and will finish 1-2 in the race most likely. Now, here comes the interesting part. Racing Point, a team which would be one of the backmarkers, or lower midfield in the last few seasons, supposedly copied off the 2019 Mercedes F1 Car for their own 2020 car. And shockingly, they qualified 3rd and 4th!! Only behind the OG Mercedes and *0.4 seconds* FASTER than a FERRARI!!!! Red Bull, which was supposed to perform well in this race had only 1 driver in the top 10! Digest this : A 2019 Mercedes is better than ALL the other 2020 cars. If Mercedes had not bothered to develop a new car, it would still win... I am not mad at Mercedes. How can I be mad at brilliant engineering? But what are the engineers of other constructors doing? Sleeping? Like DUDE, What the HELL! they all look like a bunch of amateurs compared to Mercedes....

This one is pretty neat. I am very interested in your project and look forward to what you create

Does it hurt the male porcupine when he mates with the female porcupine?? I mean, he has a soft underbelly, she has sharp spikes on the back.....

Ugh you guys are disgusting Anyhow, there are anaerobic bio-mass digestors at rural and semi-urban areas in my country which mainly decomposes wastes from farm, or ideally, cow dung-water slurry, to produce biogas (CO2 + CH4) and sludge. This are not complex to build, since almost every rural community has a few of those. These generators could easily be adapted to process human waste to biogas, and further refining would get us the methane we need and redirect the CO2 to the greenhouses. The leftover sludge, can be used as an EXCELLENT manure for the greenhouses. Or we could use the biogas as a monoprop for station keeping.

How do I patch a stock LFO engine to use multiple fuels like Methalox and Hydrolox??

All forms of Bardcore, but this one's stuck in my head. For now. -
That might be possible, will try it out the next time I play KSP.. I suppose 3 structural panels with 3 hinges, covering the docking port like the petals on Pathfinder?

I have always been upset by the restriction imposed upon the payload size because of the cargo bays, so taking inspiration from 'SSTO space program' on youtube I made an early game SSTO. This has a 2.5m fairing, and can accomodate payloads upto 3.5m diameter pretty easily. It managed to get 5 tons to orbit easily. The Re-entry and landing was smooth has heck too. But the craft struggled with initial ascent, as it was underpowered. This forced me to start the rocket engines at a lower altitude within the atmosphere, and at much lower speeds. And then I realized :" Wait a minute! Why am I restricting the length of the payload??!!" Therefore, Mk2 of the SSTO was created. It is not very different to Mk1, the fuselage, wing and fuel tank placement is 95% similar. But it has 2 more whiplashes then the previous iteration, solving the underpowered ascent problem. So much so that this craft has 1600 m/s delta v in LKO for a 7 ton payload, whereas Mk1 barely had enough to deorbit, with a 5 ton payload! Moreover, The payload length is not restricted, and I think it can take 9 tons to orbit comfortably. Now all it needs is some cosmetic modifications. It is a front loader, so I suppose it can carry Surface Base Modules to and from surface to orbit... SSTO Prototype Mk2 completing the circularization burn with it's dummy cargo of 2 full ore containers (7 tons). Refuel it in LKO, attach a droptank or ISRU and I perhaps can do a Laythe mission with this SSTO. A Duna mission would be child's play. But just when I was patting myself in the back, disaster struck! Re-entry was smooth, so was the final approach, but this craft STALLS like a Flying Brick! It crashed about 50 m from the runway! Its most likely the unshielded docking port causing this issue... But I guess I will slap some parachutes, which makes it good enough for Kerbin, maybe not good enough for Laythe. Suggestions for improving this SSTO are welcome.

My country was a British colony in the past, and thus knowledge of English is very important if you want to progress socially. So much so that I was held on a pedestal because I could understand and sing English songs .Thus English is mandatory here in education. I started learning it from kindergarten. However, I was unable to have a proper conversation in English until I was 16. Then I changed schools and had the misfortune of being bullied by a girl who spoke the most refined English, she almost sounded Scottish. Her pronunciation of each syllable was perfect. Listening to her speak English was like watching Gordon Ramsey cook! I was included in her gang to be the group clown. They would make fun of my bad pronunciation and thick native accent and bully me. Little did they know, that I was and am totally shameless. If constant humiliation was what it took to get the criticism of the best English speaker in the entire city, maybe the entire state, then so be it. Over two years I kept learning as much as I could and was so much better at it than ever before. Right now, I can speak English much better than my own mother tongue which is a bit shameful, to be honest.

What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)
Selective Genius replied to a topic in The Lounge
I am replaying F1 2012, the second best Formula 1 game I realized I am terribly out of touch, and I am back to playing it with all sorts of driver assists. I am playing as the 'Marussia' F1 team (the second slowest team on the grid) and I am outperforming my teammate/rival which is great! I still don't want to be too dependent on driver assists though.. -

Nah, I just know what my limitations and weaknesses are, and I have the common sense to side with the winner. While good people like you will continue to wallow in the puddles of mediocrity, smug at your lofty ideals of 'Morality' and 'Justice'; I will lie, cheat and steal my way to the top, so that one day my grandkids will have power over your grandkids and push them further in their ever growing pit of righteousness. 'Fight'. You are 'Fighting', is it? Do you even know who the enemy is? Or are you just shooting arrows in the dark? -

But we all will buy the cheaper better goods, disregarding where and how it was manufactured, dont you? Or will we cough up more money to buy something 'morally superior'? If we don't buy Take2 products and buy an equivalent product from other publishers, what would be our choice? EA? Apple? Microsoft? Activision/Blizzard? Which of these do not have skeletons in their closet? Which of these will adhere to our moral standards? We can of course buy from indie studios but is it guaranteed that the quality will match that of the bigger publishers? People will make a lot of noise against these publishers, but all the publishers have to do is to launch a PUBG, or a Red Dead Redemption 2 and suddenly all sins are forgotten for a while, the publishers line up their pockets with a few hundred million dollars. It is the good old 'Breads and Circuses' which Romans used to distract their discontent populace and get goodwill too, in the process. -

- More funds for game dev than other studios, thus producing quality games - Quality games are appreciated by the public, they buy it and get more funds for Take2 - Take2 buys and dissolves up and coming studios, gaining more monopoly - Repeat A smartphone better than its competitor will find its way to our pockets, even if we knew it was probably made in bad worker condition in China. Sports wear made in sweatshops in third world country find their space in our wardrobes now, dont they? The point is: Take2 has the ability to deliver better goods, at the cost of ethics and morals. And as materialistic this society is, we could not give a dang about how the product was made, as long as it works and delivers as promised. -

Then, what do you suppose is a practical, tangible solution to the present problem regarding KSP2? We are drops of water, but in these scenario, we do not belong in the ocean. We are limited to a puddle, at most. The protests that you mentioned (lets not get too political about this) had powerful supporters and political partners who pushed the agenda forwards. What kind of backer do we have? Do we have a US lawmaker who sympathizes with our cause? If we do, then that's great. But we don't. My point is that 'Mob mentality' will not work without a backing of some kind. And most of those people will not back us if they dont see a profit for themselves. That, or if they have some form of conscience. -

Excuse me are we both living in the same plane of existence? Have you heard anything from Take2, the chief 'antagonist' in this scenario? You have not. They sent Nate Simpson, because he is a known KSP lover, a tragic 'hero' and will make for a good misdirection of the mob's anger, maybe even a scapegoat. Did it work? Absolutely. Notice how the tempers calmed down once Nate made his address. At the moment, most if not all people will still buy KSP2 if it's a good game. Please pick up your placards, and protest the injustice for as long as you want. In one way or the other, until you rise to the top, with the ability to inflict the same injustice to those below you, you can not make a difference even with a mob. What you decide to do with the power you obtained is up to you. That or if you gain the backing of influential people. Please look at history and count how many peaceful protests and movements have been completely successful solely on the basis of the mob's motivation. All of the successful ones have had major backers. Also, there are 1 million people invested in KSP2's journey at the moment and hate the present scenario? I doubt it. You and I ARE and WILL always be powerless, atleast in the gaming sector. We can of course, keep deluding ourselves and believe that we have some power over a multi billion dollar corporation which probably has more lawyers than people on this forum deciding to boycott and protest it. -
Today I got a contract to save 'Spaghetti Kerman'. Isn't sphagettification the worst way for a kerbal to die in the game? This Kerbal's parents must have really hated him a lot, to name him 'Worst Death' Kerman. He is going to get bullied so much if I bring him back to the space center..... I decided to keep him offworld at all time, even if it costs me the contract I sent the Kerb to the Mun, and made him a tiny base to live in. It has been names 'Demo Base 1' and I am testing the basics of USI-LS and USI-MKS (both very scary mods, not for the faint-hearted)

This whole debacle reminds me of a story, where a Demon asks a King a question in exchange of his life: "Who is Virtuous? A deer calmly grazing grass, not hurting anyone, but minding it's own business, or a tiger ripping apart deer families by killing them for food, leaving nothing but bones behind?" The King replied, "It is the Tiger. The Tiger only kills to fill it's belly, it is it's nature. True, if it wanted, it could indiscriminately kill small herbivores and be a monster, but it chooses not to be. That's Virtue The deer on the other hand, is simply harmless. It's not inflicting harm to anyone, because it's incapable to do so, not because it doesn't want to." The same applies to this situation. We can sign all we want, no problem. But in the end, we won't be virtuous, we will just be harmless. Of course we will get the license to pat ourself on our back for a while, but that's all the change we can manage. TTI will still sell a bazillion copies of KSP2(if it's good), it will still gain a massive profit, regardless of the opinions of a few hundred people. And all we will be left with, would be the absence of a good game on our PC, and who knows, maybe a large portion of us petitioners will be swayed by the wonderful 'Let's play' videos, and end up buying KSP2 anyway YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO BE VIRTUOUS WHEN YOU ARE POWERLESS. Just write this down and follow it, and life will not smack you in the face too hard when you walk into the bad world out there.
