Being Generation 35 is cheating. And a new page. Go ahead and tell me I'm cheating,

Not using official KSP art is cheating. Oh, wait...

Today, instead of focusing on the Duna monument mission, I decided to try my hand at the Kapy Rock thing. Built a rocket, strapped a lander with some wheels on it, and thought "If I can get close, I can drive to the edge of it. Maybe.". I then spent several hours overshooting, undershooting, and totally missing the thing. The few landings I could get within a few kilometers? Name your downfall, I suffered it: Tipping over just before landing Tipping over just after landing Damage upon landing No traction going uphill No braking going downhill No steering to go around hills Landed on the coast...but in too much water to actually drive I think I'm just over the rock formation, so I'll pull the chutes now...only to hit the side of the thing and fall all the way down Kraken attacks That's the SHORT list of what I've experienced. I've heard people build planes and fly over it, ejecting the lander when they are literally right over it. I'm no good with planes or cargo bays, so I haven't tried that yet. But that may never happen; I'm just going to put this away for now before I uninstall.

As I pointed out in my post, IRL we didn't need to do this. Well before there were any space programs, engineers, or astrophysicists, scientists and mathematicians had figured out all of the solar objects, their masses, orbital periods, distances, etc. None of that was done with satellites or orbital telescopes. And as we are all aware, ground-based telescopes are not a thing in this game, so it can be assumed that all that math was done prior to the start of any new campaign that takes place. Continuing to say we need to launch at least 1 satellite to get information that has been proven in the real world to be able to be done without doing so is simply placing a limitation on a game where no limitation needs to exist.

Close. I have a book signed by something owned by the author. I have a copy of Mick Foley's autobiography that I got him to sign as Socko. TUBM has been to a live wrestling match.

Changing your avatar is misleading. Which is another form of cheating.

Make a wish... and have it horribly corrupted!

Granted. Your eyebrows are more famous than Taylor Swift, and they have a schedule to keep. With a guest list that you aren't part of, so they are permanently removed so they can enjoy living in the limelight. You, on the other hand, are not famous and eyebrow-less. I wish I had a career in professional wrestling. -
@ColdJ has been both Rick-rolled AND banned.
-
Yes, I have. And they aren't that good. TUBM has never been to Las Vegas.
-
You are correct. I thought I was responding to OP, but I fouled up.

IRL we were able to determine: Planets And mass Moons of said planets And their mass Distances from our planet to said planets and moons Rotation times Orbit times And speed Inclination Comets And asteroids And their orbital times, inclinations, and speed Knowing what we know about thrust, weight, fuel, consumption, speed, etc., we were then able to calculate how much fuel would be needed to travel to a given object, and when said launch would need to take place. Without having launched satellites first. In fact, Luna II landed on the moon in 1959 after the Russians had never interacted with the moon previously (Luna I was intended to be a moon impactor, but a misfire during transfer pushed it out of Earth's SOI and into a heliocentric orbit). We shouldn't need to launch a satellite into orbit, and then do science to determine if we can launch one to go towards the moon, then launch one to determine if we can orbit the moon, and so on. Now, if you want to play like that, that's your call. And I'm sure at some point someone will develop a mod that does this. But stock functionality? No. With all that said, even if you were to remove the travel/trip planner until someone did science first, it's still broken and needs to be fixed anyhow.

@Superfluous J I might take this challenge up after I complete the Duna monument mission (still testing to verify that parachutes work for me)...but I've got a question on the challenge itself. Why do we not have to simply orbit Kerbol and then come back? I'm assuming that an orbit of Kerbol is assumed when you go interplanetary, but there are all kinds of different orbits you can get. Heliocentric comes to mind (as you get both high over Kerbol and near over Kerbol). There's also the challenge in there of not just having enough fuel, but getting to Kerbol (near) and getting back even though you aren't landing on the surface of the sun. Still need to deal with timing, and transfer windows back to Kerbin, potential gravity assists... Any reason why? Or just simply not in the spirit of the challenge?

You stated that the mod fixes this when, in reality, it does not.

Reported Version: v0.2.1 (latest) | Mods: MapView Focus and Targeting; Micro-Engineer; Flight Plan; Maneuver Node Controller; K2D2 | Can replicate without mods? Yes OS: Windows 11 | CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900 12 core | GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 Super | RAM: 32 GB Went into the VAB to start building a vessel, but then realized I needed to go to Mission Control to get the exact parameters of one of the missions. When I brought up the Escape menu, I saw that Tracking Station is "greyed out", and I cannot click on that. Included Attachments: .ipsImage { width: 900px !important; }

Whats your Kapy Rock Mission Strategy?
Scarecrow71 replied to Superluminaut's topic in KSP2 Discussion
My strategy currently involves ignoring the mission. I don't plan on doing this until at least after the Duna monument. And at that, I may just wait until all primary story missions are done.
