Make a Terraforming DLC
tstein replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Hundreds of years is piece of cake for kerbals. How many missions of grand tours on minimal mass take 200 years... -
Concern about the level of terrain detail in KSP 2
tstein replied to wpetula's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
That is where science and finding specific things can add some more (for that I made the thread about having oceans that we could explore underneath for example). Also if the resources are specific to different location we might have already enough reason to do more than visit plant a flag and go home. Also I do not get why people care for graphics in a game like KSP. Graphics are important up to the point they can convey the information you need (like rocks make easier to judge height with good shadows), or all engines being very clear that they are on, but besides that, graphics are irrelevant in this type of game. The only games where I feel good graphics are important are Terror games where the atmosphere is super important, and soemthign alike war thunder realistic tank mode because spotting someone is half the game.- 59 replies

Obviously, completely in agreement there.
-
aa but that is not precision.. that is granularity.. and remember the marketing department probably took a sentence from an engineer int he team and the engineer probably expected the marketign to know exactly what precision means.

NO RGB is not how LIGHT works, Light has no combinatory triple component. Light is a continuous wavelength spectrum. Our EYES work in RGB, do not mix both things. (also have 14 years in Computer graphics industry including image manipulation and optical sensors software development Also do you know where it was corrected? Because several programs have different setups. The feature request we always received was "we want to be able to work in RYB mode" because that is what artists are used to think about. Several softwares support it nowadays (although it is a pita to implement with good performance for the transformations and not linear anymore)

Not talking about KSp forum, talking in general. I have my own company and I know what the industry standards are and it is vastly adherent that discord is not allowed in most offices at all. Almost every single generic black list of softwares that IT people usually block have discord (due to the previously mentioned preconception developed around it). Also it is impossible to say that a real time communication form will not demand more resources than an asynchronous on idle one. There is even a whole field of math and computer science that proves it and that is taken into account when designing every information system around. Real time (i.e you are not looking when event came you miss the train) is inherently more time consuming (if you want to participate obviously, if you do not care to make inputs then it is irrelevant).

That can be just color adjustment from where the image was taken. Green is complementary of Red so if they made any photoshoping and adjustment of the color they might have shifted the balance towards green.

That is not how physics integration work. If the scale of 0.5 mm fit sin the float point they are using (considering native type not any aberration of long number library ) it cost zero extra to make the precision be 1mm or 1 cm or 1 meter.

Not elitism at all. Most people can access a forum during work. Discord is blocked in every single company I worked with (it is heavily associated with gaming by most IT departments). I could always check forums while at work my entire life.. open a chat.. unthinkable.
-
It is just a statement of factual logic, people that have time for real life iteraction are very likely less busy than people that do not have such luxury ( of course there are exceptions but in a general sense it is cohesive reason)
-
Discord is better for people that do nto work.. forums for people that have real life to worry with.
-
To be doable does not mean it is a good Idea and even less that puts the engine in the "all too useful"category
-
Just be realistic.. you are landing on an ice moon to take samples and you try to touch down smoothly with an engine that uses NUKES.... does nto seems a good place to make experiments afterwards:P
-
Not necessarily... an orion engine has the obvious drawback of being absurdly large. So it is completely useless for sending probes, make a lander, require by itself a large mission so it is like killing an ant with a cannon.. I have no clue how big they will make torch ones although.
-
Well let me put this way, I have over 700 games in my steam account. Not a single one I ever saw ANY ADD at all. Really ZERO. Gamers most find about games in content creators channels, not in adds.
-
Check ultimate admirals Dreadnoughts then... early access was just an arena of ships... release has capaigns, projects, politics, trade routes, alliances, 20 times more ship parts etc.. it is very normal to have a large expansion durign the EA period. Other such game would be kenshi that is unrecognizable from the EA start to release.
-
That is a VERY popular game and those usually have asburdly huge teams and a marketing budget that takes half of the money the game makes as well. Niche games rarely sell more than 4-7 million copies
-
They shoudl inovate.. a self propelled planet that accelerates on a random direction every 20 days that would be a challenge to land on
-
It makes sense because the KSC itself looks inferior material/shader wise than the rest of the stuff about the game we have seen up to now. PRobably it was the first models and materials they added in the development as well.

Arecibo message (split from The Ksp mun Easter egg)
tstein replied to JoeSchmuckatelli's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You are thinking on an individual scale< I am talking as a civilization. Manking is an entity on itself and that entity while going down is going down with a very loud thunder. -

Oo I know I read the books, but between suffering alone and suffering but taking some of the ones causing the suffereing down to hell with me, I chose the second. -

Well in the second at least we go out with a bang! -
That POV I think is really important. Science if possible would work better if it gave us a reason to make multiple DIFFERENT launches for a body. A biome mapper satellite is a good example.

There is also the possibility that the first think they receive and decode from us is Star Wars.. then they will try very very hard to never meet us.....
