I learned how to make them in photoshop just as you posted this! So now it has a normal map. It still needs quite a lot of work though. edit- So bumpy! It's pretty much done now so if OrionKerman allows it then I can release it. Anyway I have a sudden craving to texture more things! I wonder if anyone needs help... -

Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of the textures. So I tried making my own. Anyone like it? It still has some work to do. Also it needs a normal map, but I have no idea how to make one. -
As much as this seems wonderful I don't plan on using it because of the RAM requirements. Perhaps the planets should be made configurable so one may remove planets or changer their orbits as one pleases.

I think that's where most of my textures are from But the difference of quality of that mercury map just makes it look bad. I think I'll probably dull the colours at some point. Also change Eve's surface to Venus. And NathanKell, is there anything you need me to do or give you? If you need bump/height maps, they're in my download (because I'm too lazy to make a second one for that) and there's a lovely one of Earth here too This does beg the question, where on Earth would the KSC be located anyway?

How'd you manage to get it balanced with and without Huygens?

It would be better, but it hasn't been colourized, and (more importantly) it has big gaps around the poles.

Here. Let's release this test of my real life textures. All textures are by random people from Google, rings are by this guy, and Universe Replacer and City Lights and Clouds are both required. Download! If anyone has any suggestions, better textures, changes, fixes, complaints about the Moon facing the wrong way, or anything else (except stuff about Saturn's rings, unless you made new ones), please PM me.

Oh look! The gas planets (and Venus) are all pretty now! Even Saturn and Neptune! There is much to be done to Saturn's rings, but at least they exist!

Changing the cloud layer to scale { x = 1 y = 0.1 } would result in a smushed sphere, yes? Because this would provide a very simple and easy way to make planet rings. You'd just have to draw the textures yourself. -
So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to use the city lights and clouds mod to stick clouds around Eve instead of universe replacer, I'll do pretty much the same thing for Saturn so it'll actually LOOK like a gas planet, then I may also be able to add rings and auroras using it. I may be able to release it later today, but I'm not sure. Also, you mentioned changing the surface of the planets earlier. Would it be possible to do that based off of the bump maps? I've got pretty detailed ones of Earth, Mars, the Moon, and Mercury.

After a few solid minutes of effort, I've put together most of the planets with realistic textures. I still have to mess around with bump maps and resolutions, maybe some mirroring, but for the most part it's looking pretty good. Duna looks fricking amazing too! And yes, that is Dres with a Saturn texture slapped on it Edit - I forgot to take a picture of Jool. Trust me though, there's not much to see. I'ts just Jupiter now.

I can, will, and am currently doing this now I guess. The only real problem is that once you get close enough to the planets, the actual surface will be very different from the texture. Also I have no idea what to do with bump maps, because I have no idea how to make them and I probably won't be able to find any. But I'll try.

Most of the music is generic public domain stuff so you'll here it everywhere. Threads are constantly popping up about people finding the music in weird places.

I have the same problem too. Also, what values should I use while port forwarding? I just used the port 2076 and [ipIdontremember].122 and I don't know if it's correct or not. -
Mt. Scott in honour of all the brave adventurers who seek their home before the stars. Artsy time over. I have a sudden craving to climb mountains with KAS rovers and such. It should be fun!

Yeah, I was just going to suggest that you could move the KSC, If you're going full-realism-orbithadababy-NASA stuff then yeah, I would say you should you move the KSC to somewhere other than the equator.

I never thought I would like a mod like this. But it's great! It's like being back in the early versions where getting into orbit was really hard. getting into orbit has never been quite so satisfying.

(not my picture) doing this was so fun back then. Though it was horrible to deal with switching the command pod, so I never really did it. Also satellites sucked because there were no animated solar panels. Of course I never put anything into orbit anyway... -

Woow! Can't wait for the update! But for me, the HD textures use too much RAM and the low ones just look ugly. Is there any middle ground possible? -
