I like to think they do not have a government. With Kerbin being like one planet wide Kerbal version of Hobbiton.

Landing speed is so fast on Duna due to the thin atmosphere, that it is best to not try land like an aircraft. Simple way to approach this is to make a tailsitter. Parachutes on the nose help land with this configuration. Either that or vertical lifting rockets (ie. a VTOL, through strictly speaking a tailsitter is still VTOL too).

CANDU reactors a pretty awesome (though they have a slight positive void coefficient). However they are still a PWR. The real safety benefit of Thorium is the molten-salt reactor design. From what I understand they still need some R&D, but they should be viable. You can also build them to be small or large as needed.

2001: A Space Odyssey Sucks!? Blasphemy! Ok, I admin it is a bit slow. However, don't let that put you off from watching 2010, which is a more regular movie in style.

I use The Force. (ok - no, i use Keyboard and Mouse)

Congrats NovaSilisko on the first drop. Downloading now. edit1: ok - a few minutes in and i crashed the probe. edit2: found some.. things | good enough landing | a cave!

Temptation by Leaves' Eyes. ... just happened to be on the streaming service I use when I read this thread.

Why do Science Labs threads become so controversial?
bsalis replied to WestAir's topic in The Lounge
Not all Science Lab threads become heated, only some. From what I see, it's from science topics that adjoin areas that people have strong, emotional and personal views. Views and opinions based on values. These adjoining areas are things like politics, ideologies, economics, culture, sociology and so forth. Prime example here would be Climate Science. It is impossible for that topic to be separated from the political and ideological dimensions. -
Why women live longer than man, that's unfair :-)
bsalis replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Quickly posting this here before thread gets locked... I'm no doctor but my understanding is that women have, proportionally, larger internal organs. This is the support pregnancy. However, the extra capacity allows a longer life. As others have mentioned, men are also more prone to early death from violence and accidents. -
Have you ever lost a ship in re-entry WITHOUT FAR installed?
bsalis replied to michaelphoenix22's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I agree. All my incidences have been at very high velocity hitting Laythe head on, directly from solar orbit. With docked craft, and CoM the wrong end. It's not easy to botch a re-entry in stock but it can happen. -
Dont know much about them. The 2013 Christmas card earned them some respect from me though. So silly, so cheesy.

It would have to be in the light and in the field of view. How well lit would matter. Other then that, its very speculative really. I would guess a long time.

Dwight D. Eisenhower. Not so much inspiration as admiration. He was a truly great leader. Giving to the go-ahead for the D-day landing was especially gut wrenching...

I tinker with stuff. ... currently Amazon AWS. My interests keep changing.

Hey i'm not dead, i'm still here.... and finally my thread is getting the attention it deserves. Congrats katateochi on your Duna landing - most impressive. My last glide landing on Duna did not go so well. Possibly because it was not a purpose built Duna glider. 5thHorseman... i have no words.

Damnit, this thread has made me hungry! Medium-rare here. It's common, as this thread shows. However I don't really cook anything.

What is the best way to end fossil fuel dependance?
bsalis replied to makinyashikino's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Coastal based multi-purpose nuclear reactors. Uranium/MOX/Thorium fuel based, whatever. Run them continuously at full power. Put electricity into the grid as needed, with anything left over used to pull hydrogen out of the seawater. In places that need it, add a desalination module. Then take the hydrogen and some CO2 out of the air and make methane with some chemistry magic. -
Take the plot from "2001 A Space Odyssey" and the sequel "2010", then squish them back-to-back into a quirky KSP parody movie. It would be like the live action movies but with... * Funnies * Screaming Kerbals * Things frequently going wrong * Explosions Imagine two Kerbals dealing with Hal? Or the EVA transfers in 2010!

Dres. The speed hump on the path to Jool.

There has been discussion about this before. Personally i'm with NovaSilisko on this one. Since it's a more elegant way of thinking about the Kerbol system/universe. It also solves the obvious questions that arise, such as how do Kerbals get such light material to build rockets from a massively dense planet. And yeah, yeah - I know it's just a game and does not matter. However for internal consistency it would be good to have this settled for v1.0 in a proper way.

How to Launch planes using rockets?
bsalis replied to a topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, what GoatRider said. Exactly that. ... or put the shuttle at the bottom. -
At this stage unmanned is more cost effective, since it's the only real practical way with current technology. Humans can bring a lot to the table, not just in terms of hands-on science, but in monitoring and fixing systems and more. However the additional cost is orders of magnitude... then there's the human factors, and risks. Imagine a manned Cassini–Huygens mission?! Billions in cost and possibly ending in tragedy. Also there is more than science to space exploration too. The objective of the Apollo moon missions was "landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth". Though, smartly, NASA decided that while they were there that they should collect some rocks and do some SCIENCE.

I seem to be one of the few who build practical one piece stations. Less parts, more rigid.

Another small table update. Again, i'm no statistician, but there does seem to be a couple of significant bumps.... * 4 ENTJs now, at 9.76% vs gen pop 1.8%. It is a very rare type! However, I was actually expecting more ENT- types, since I think they would be drawn to the game. * 4 INFPs now, at 9.76% vs gen pop 4.4%. Possibly too early to make a call on that. edit: Spotted this a while ago, and thought I would plonk it down here... The Star Wars MBTI Chart (image is huge, so I opted for a link)
