  1. Well I am back! This is my 0.23 K-Prize entry. Hmm, I wonder if anyone else has had a qualifying entry in every version since 0.16 inclusive. Anyhows, I have some more VTOL SSTO action here with Excalibur. Lots a pics, so low rez, but click pics for full size. Welp, this is a 9-seater, so Jebediah, Bill and Bob load up with 6 noobs for some Zero Gee training action in spaaace. We are off. Yes we are moving forward a little. Jets at the back have a bit more TWR then needed. So ballistic we go. Ascent. Circularizing. Orbit - Pe is 102Km. We are back. KSC in sight. Ok, so I botched final. Distracted by checking fuel and intakes to see why it was pulling left a bit, but didn't find anything. Heck, screw the runway, lets go find someplace more interesting to land. VAB, I choose you! Gentle now.... BAM! We are done here.
  2. Yes it should go down. I believe when the part was added that code handling the going down bit would be added later. I suspect that feature has been shelved though.
  3. Can't you r-click on the chair while still on the ladder to board? Regardless, the trick to get on top of things with ladders is to use the small ladders piece and put them on an angle at the edge. Your kerbal should climb over, and fall off the end onto the surface... then just stand up.
  4. The problem is that exploring the islands of Laythe by air is so much fun! Each island is a place you can visit and say that you have been there. They all have their own distinct shape and terrain features. They are also typically small enough to explore comfortably by rover (if you are into that). By comparison, Duna is an ocean of red ground, where Here is no more distinct from There. On a practical note too, flying is the only real practical way of getting around Laythe quickly. Personally I have found "Long-term Laythe" a wonderfully entertaining ride, and have observed the changing nature of exploration with a sense of mirth. Starting with BirdDog as a "late addition", with a focus on rovering Dansen Island and even some boating action as well. To a more prominently air oriented exploration. To me it's just a logical progression. But lets not forget the Vall adventures, the earthquake, solar flare, and general roleplay making the most of dynamically generated terrain and rock scatter! Well, how thorough is thoroughly? ... there are about 78 significant sized islands on Laythe, and (i speculate) about as many as 200 in total. The crew on Laythe have plenty of places to visit if they so choose.
  5. Well, strictly speaking if you used SRBs then it is not "just jets". However, I believe it is possible with only jets. If you store enough IntakeAir (yes - the intakes do store a little of it) to run the jets a little at Ap to lift the Pe above 68Km.
  6. Michigan and Ontario seem clear of ice, mostly. Why the difference between lakes though? Is it the dominant air flows bringing cold air from the north over Superior and Huron?
  7. Last time I checked the metal plates block fuel flow.
  8. Some pictures would help. Sounds like flameouts... or the CoM moving behind the CoL as the fuel drains.
  9. That moon looks like it had a troubled past. Isn't this the one that they think was smashed and reformed into its current jigsaw looks?
  10. This sounds like something that would already exist as an online service. As for writing your own... well, best to use a programming language you know. That, or use something supported by a good website hosting service.

    Rdio songs

The PC app seems to trick the audio system in order to not allow recording. Considering it's a subscription service, that allows caching with offline listening on many platforms... why would you want to record anything?
  12. Possibly best to look in the Spacecraft Exchange for examples. Although you may not have the parts for them, they may give you ideas. As for planning an interplanetary. Get a hold of a delta-V map, and work on your stages backward. So build something that can get to Duna orbit and return to Kerbin. Then build up to something that can get from LKO to Duna low orbit. Then build up for launch pad to LKO. As for knowing how much delta-V a stage has well.... you can guess it, calculate it by hand, or just use a mod.
  13. Personally I like the style of Dieselpunk more. I think it could have worked well as an alternative art style for KSP. Think Gattaca, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Iron Sky etc. Imagine a KSC with Art Deco buildings! mebe someone will do a reskin mod one day. Only problem would be curvy aspect of the style. Not so good with lego style construction.
  14. My advice is to go wide, and cut down on the shear forces. Basically have everything lift itself, with fuel feeding inward. In the design below, I used Skippers on Jumbos. The most shear force would be a Skipper at full thrust against the tank-to-tank bonds, which are a radial decoupler and a couple of struts. Then there are more struts in order to hold the whole thing together. Like a launch pad facehugger... This run was 646 ton to LKO. Some launches don't make it... but meh, it's good enough.
  15. Persistent Unicorns. That's only speculation though. I could be wrong.
  16. Post Traumatic Forum Outage Disorder PTFOD ?
  17. The vast majority of people are Science illiterate. I'm often amazed how little people know about elementary science knowledge that you would learn at High School. It's a great tragedy, but no one seems to think it's a problem because... the vast majority of people are Science illiterate. It least in the developing world you can blame the education system, but for Western industrial nations there are no excuses. Our civilisations are built on Science and Rationalism. The fact that he is even aware of String Theory and that it involves many dimensions already puts him well into the more knowledgeable end of the bell curve. People should still know the difference by name alone.
  18. Talking about Google, theres an app called Google Sky Map that can answer these mysteries. With the Lat & Long correctly set, and using internal sensors (such as the compass), the smartphone app will simply show you what it is pointed at.
  19. I don't think larger parts are needed. A new size set will require a whole bunch of adaptors and matching parts, like reaction wheels and decouplers etc. I doubt they will be needed for the NASA DLC mission anyhow. Seems you only need to do solar rendezvous and nudge an asteroid. Some improvements to maneuver nodes is all that is needed for that.
  20. By some strange co-incidence, I hit this problem yesterday as well. Updating from Win 8.0 to 8.1 will do this, since it seems to mess with the nVidia settings. Upgrading to the latest video driver and control panel fixed the problem. The old control panel didn't even have the config options to set Stereoscopic 3D off.
  21. Can always just keep using Kethane mod. The game was designed to be modded. I'm surprised that this mod has not progressed down the path Squad originally had in mind for resource mining after they canned it.
