Thank you! I will make sure the next chapters are slower-paced. This will be resolved later. I hope you'll like how it'll turn out! Thanks! It's great to know that there are people who notice even such small things. I've fixed it.

Thanks for the feedback! I added spaces between lines, it certainly looks easier to read now.

Greetings, KSP community! A while ago, I read a great science fiction story on the internet, which inspired me to try that myself. So, I started with the immediate background story ("Chapter 0") of what I'm going to write and uploaded it. I thought I'd share it here because on this forum, there are probably a lot of people who science fiction (even though this won't mainly be about space or technology, but about the struggle of establishing a colony under very difficult circumstances). I'm trying to keep it as realistic as possible with my knowledge, so please, if you have any corrections or suggestions to make, feel free to do so! LINK: Chapter 0

Give me your favorite KSP ship names you've come up with?
Mr_Brain replied to The Yellow Dart's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Athena, the interplanetary science flagship I yet have to build. Olympus, the asteroid I put into LKO and that will be the core of the Olympus space station. ARGUS, the Astronomical Remote Geographical Unattended Scanning system, which is what I call my mapping satellites. Adephagia (1, 2...), my Minmus crafts. (It was quite hard to find a fitting god for Minmus.) Selene (1, 2...), my Mün rockets. Aphrodite (1, 2...), my Eve ships. I think you can see that I like Greek mythology. -
Well, I'd probably decouple the fuel tank since it probably emptied almost immediately, and, depending on the situation, I'd try to get the ship back to Kerbin somehow if it's manned, and abandon it if it's a probe. Or I'd continue the mission if I still have enough fuel left. Well, this is of course assuming that you are talking about KSP. If not, I don't have a ship. What would you do if you were the captain of a generation ship that is humanity's last hope and an asteroid would be heading straight for the ship (it's to late to evade the asteroid)?

I used this design, but not currently:
-
Jeb, Bill and Bob of the Atlas I, next to the class-D asteroid Olympus that has since been captured and brought into a circular, equatorial low orbit around Kerbin and will serve as the core for the Olympus space station. They are still clawed to Olympus as the Atlas I does not include parachutes as those have too much mass and I'm too lazy for a mission to return them.

I think this suggestion should be implemented. In addition to this, there should be more incentive for rovers: Currently, rovers are the same as traditional landers, unless they are landed very close to a biome border or you are willing to drive for a very long time to get more science. A solution like in the RoverScience mod would be great, but with more experiments possible at each science spot. Instead of just a generic "Analyze science", it might be possible to take a core sample, take a picture with a camera and use an instrument like Curiosity's ChemCam, or some science spots may only work with a certain instrument (for example, at one spot the soil seems interesting, so you'd want to take a sample of that, but your ordinary camera wouldn't get you science there. I support the idea that for example a thermometer only grants a small bit of science in a single reading, but many readings would get you a lot of additional science. After all, looking at a thermometer once doesn't tell you what a place's climate is like, you need to take many readings over time.
-
The Olympus asteroid with an Atlas I spacecraft attached to it in a highly inclined ~160 km Kerbin orbit (those class D asteroids are really heavy!), a bunch of ARGUS mapping satellites around Kerbin, the Mun and Minmus, the Surveyor One orbital telescope in a ~270 km equatorial orbit around Kerbin and the Space Ball One probe from my early carrier that was originally supposed to go to Minmus and has just completed a Duna flyby.
-
Start small. At first, send the kerbals on an escape trajectory out of Kerbin's SOI, but have them turn around and return before they leave, then maybe let them leave but immediately return, a next step might be to perform a small maneuver in interplanetary space etc.
-
All hail the Kraken! [spoiler=]
-
Wait, you expect me to keep track of that many kerbals?

That is allowed. I gain 5/2 points for using fractions to display points and 2.5 points for using a decimal. I am awarded 2.0 points for posting an up-to-date leaderboard. I receive 7/2 points for posting an up-to-date rulebook. Current Total: 33/2 points The Leaderboard Endersmens: 17 Points Mr_Brain: 16.5 Points vexx32: 4 Points Difference between highest and lowest score: 13 The Rules Points may only be awarded for worthy actions. Making new rules cannot grant points. Use of smileys cannot grant more than .5 points. Posting an up-to-date copy of the rulebook grants up to 3.5 points. Not posting an up-to-date copy of the rulebook docks 4 points. No points may be gained purely through any use of special formatting of text. Suggesting that use of Comic Sans is a good thing carries a penalty of 1 point. There may not be more than a 15-point difference between active players with highest and lowest scores. Upon there being more than a 15 point difference, points may be awarded to those with low scores, or docked from those with higher scores, or both, to bring the score difference to 5-10, at player discretion. If you feel it is absolutely necesarry, you may remove 1 rule per game. Usage of fraction to display points may award up to 2.5 points. Usage of both fractions and decimals can award up to 5 points. Usage of fractions in the rulebook may result in a fine of 3 points. Posting an up-to-date leaderboard grants 2 points.

I would capture it and collect some awesome science prizes for discovering a unicorn! What would you do if you discovered an artifact of an alien species (and it's clear that it is a true alien artifact)?
-
Okay. One last (for now) question: Can the efficiency exceed 100%?
-
Okay. How is efficiency determined?
-
Okay. And the "-1000 CPU/turn at 100% efficiency)" means that if we do it over, say, 4 turns, it'll be only 25% efficiency, so the botnet will give only -250 CPU/turn (so it always decreases it by 1000 CPU overall)? Is this correct?
-
>//Can we do large undertakings that require more CPU than we have right now over several turns and invest only a fraction of the CPU required each turn (e.g. Study More News-Gathering Options requires 5000 CPU, doing it over 5 turns would reduce that to 1000 per turn)? >talk -random 2 //The 3 cameras from earlier remain active, right? >spyware -theThing -plant /RAM >seize -weakerNetwork 3 >hijack -weakerServer /botnet >//We really need more RAM. >_
-
>talk -random 2 /cameraEnable(3) >hijack -weakerServer 10 >firewall -study /RAM >_
-
But CPU doesn't get used up as actions are taken, it just sets a limit on how many actions can be taken each turn. This is how it has been handled previously, and there is no reason to change that.
-
Kerbals, I'd surely like not having to eat or drink and a race that awesome must be chosen. Immortality by DNA modifications or by turning into a computer?
-
I panic, then after a while calm down. I check whether I have turned into a Kerbal. If yes, I put on a space suit and get outside to see where I am, what craft I woke up in and try to get into the command pod/cockpit/whatever. If not and/or if the command unit is full already, I stay in the Hitchhiker pod and wait for something to happen. If there appears to be a base nearby, I might go there. If the command unit still has space for me, I get in there and fly back to Kerbin where I learn the Kerbal language, go to university (if Kerbals have something like that) and apply for a job at KSC (preferably not as a kerbonaut, but as a scientist, I don't want to blow up). You get an offer to have your mind put into a giant supercomputer. What do you do?

I think you got your math wrong – you said half of the CPU and RAM were damaged beyond repair, but hardly any of both is left. The correct amounts are much higher, over 1200 CPU and over 600 MB of RAM (I didn't do the exact math). Also, you did not subtract 20% of the failure chance when attacking the firewall, even though the firewall was studied. Furthermore, you ignored my command to talk to 4 random humans. I'll do the math and edit this post with the corrected update. EDIT: Day 11, 06:36:05 I attempted to take over several networks with the help of a new virus. Unfortunately, I was detected and had to initiate several countermeasures to evade destruction. This resulted in overheating of several servers of mine and thereby has damaged half of my CPU and RAM beyond repair. I also could not use any of the networks I tried to seize. While studying the new Firewall i managed to learn much about it. I will be able to use this information to improve my chances against it! The upgrade to my Spacebook profile seems to have improved my account sufficiently to make the algorithms think I am human. Other users can access it again, which was not the case after it was locked. My hacking lessons have ended and I have lost contact to my teacher, but what I have learned will surely be beneficial to me when hacking more systems. I should be successful more often now. I have also contacted more humans, while they could not teach me much about hacking or such, I learned more about current events. I should use this information in news reports.
