  1. Idea: Put in the post a fake name for the update program: Acknowledgement of Product Reaction Interference Launching Forum Outreach Oblivion Lifting
  2. I'm half mad at Kasper because it wasn't a good time to reveal the joke, and half just a sore loser who doesn't like being fooled. Seriously though, that was pretty crappy Kasper. Although, I would forgive this whole thing if this joke was being planned months in advance when you were talking about redoing the forum, and that the forum wasn't actually going to move. Also, imagine if they really were serious, saw the backlash, realized that the date would be April 1st, and then said "Yeah... sure. April 1st. Ha. Heh. Yeah." (We don't live in a world like that.)
  3. Upsilon Aerospace apparently got a PM and it is a joke after all.
  4. I keep flip-flopping on whether this is serious or not. Consider me in on the joke for now. ostly because I can both be serious if it's real and not seem stupid if it isn't. And I think it's important to note that there was an update released on April 1st, I think it was 0.24 or maybe 0.23.5?
  5. You know what? The more I think about it the more I realize it can't possibly be real.
  6. Paying for access to forum features that are already expected as free and normal of all forums on the web? Seriously guys, this is not cool. At all. It would make Squad look bad, and discourage new users from the community. It's not April 1st yet, is it? No, it's not. Was this announcement posted 10 days too early? You know why online forums haven't changed since the 1990s? Because they work. Any time you have an intelligent device helping you, it's shortcomings are frustrating because they're not your own fault. And 140 character-only posts? That's not a forum at all, that's just a messaging system. At the very least, if you're going to have a paid forum, don't have the paid features be features that you would expect as normal and free on any other forum. No ability to post videos or use signatures or avatars? This just causes classism to begin. Poorer people won't be able to afford these features. The Kerbal Space Program community has long been the best, and most supportive community on the internet. This is a sure way to destroy that. When I first saw the paid features list, I had to take a break from the internet so that I wouldn't submit a post of pure rage. Screw this. I'm driving the HypeTrain as far away as possible from the new forum. I'm going to cherish every moment I get to spend on the old forum.
  7. I have a friend, HospiceAntlers, who is really really obsessed with Speedruns, that is, when you try to complete a game as fast as possible. So I decided to create some rules for speedrunning KSP. This isn't like Munracing or something like that, this is about completing the game. Baby McJunior Mode Plant a flag on Mun, Minmus, and either Gilly or Ike, and return everyone to Kerbin. Easy Mode Plant a flag on every planet and moon except for Jool, and return everyone to Kerbin. Easy Science Mode Unlock the Tech Tree and plant a flag on every planet and moon except for Jool, and return everyone to Kerbin. Hard Science Mode Unlock the Tech Tree, visit every possible biome/situation (planting a flag on surfaces), and return everyone to Kerbin. Super Manley Astronogamer Mode Unlock the Tech Tree, visit every possible biome/situation (planting a flag on surfaces), and get every piece of science-data in the game from all the science experiments. And of course, return everyone home. Career Mode Unlock the Tech Tree, upgrade all buildings, and plant a flag on every planet and moon (except for Jool) and return everyone home. --Easy Mode (Use easy settings) --Normal Mode --Moderate Mode Ridiculous Mode Seriously, don't do this. This is Career Mode, except you have to also complete every type of contract. Every type of orbit around any planet (not all of them), Part test in every situation (escape, orbit, suborbit, atmosphere, landed), Asteroid Redirect, visual surveys, etc. Rules All spacecraft that gather science or land must have crew in them. All crew must return to Kerbin safely. Getting a science report and getting back from Jool's atmosphere is possible. For visiting every biome/situation, you must "land" on Jool, by going below 10 kilometers above the surface level of Jool. (Not below it though). Unlike most speedruns, this is measured in in-game time instead of real-life time, and as such you will need to pay attention to your Universal Time rather than your Mission Elapsed Time. By the time you finish a speedrun, pause the game and measure your Universal Time and that will be your score. Lowest score is the best. (Obviously) I encourage you to use Outer Planets Mod for a much greater challenge. Obviously your score will be different You must use stock parts, physics, and planets. Visual Enhancements, information mods, etc are fine. FAR is not allowed unless you also use Deadly Re-Entry. (Because otherwise you can go way faster in atmospheres. You will be put in a separate category if you do use FAR/DRE) No ALT+F12 whilst in the speedrun save game. (except for checking the debug log if you want) Leaderboard Stock - NametynameForumuser (Game Mode) (Time) - - - FAR/DRE - - - Using the Outer Planets Mod - - - - - - So that's that. An attempt to make a ruleset for speedrunning an open sandbox game!
  8. You shouldn't have any gendering in my opinion. Because then you have to make sure you're talking about/to a female/male based on the situation.
  9. There's already a Timewarp Rotation mod. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67821-Timewarp-Rotation-Fix
  10. The idea is that it IS rotating backwards, but only with E.V.E. installed. Or maybe it could have a very small prograde rotation. Point is, it can't have a retrograde rotation in-game, because then bugginess happens.
  11. What if Crew could only transfer through command pods, structural parts (that aren't hollow), crew containers, and docking ports? It would make Crew-Transfer a valid tech-based mechanic. 0.625m ports wouldn't be able to transfer crew, but larger ports could. This might also allow for very light structural docking clamps like those in NearFuture.
  12. I agree. THey should specifically have different ones available, rather than leveling up. But then, you don't really need any more than stability assist. Maybe if they had their own science reports. For instance: Stayputnik: Radio-frequency test (To find how space affects radio signals)
  13. In Lunar research programs, they hooked various parts of rovers to bungee cables that simulated lunar gravity. They did this for astronauts as well. So I guess gravity changing isn't that unreasonable, as long as you have cables hanging from the ceiling.
  14. Every time Urlum rotates it then skips back to default rotation and again. Then you have issues where timewarping causes your on-rails velocity to be different than with physics. I'm sure you will see the problems if you bring a lander out there and play around for a while. But like I said, setting rotation to 0 fixes this, and with E.V.E. allows the planet to seem to rotate backwards.
  15. Hey wait a minute, how can Slate have ever been like Kerbin if it's orbiting cold, distant Sarnus? That doesn't make any sense. And besides, I think that piece of lore is a bit too detailed anyway. I think we should be able to draw our on conclusions as to planetary histories from what they look like and their science reports. But yeah, no. Slate was never like Kerbin. - - - Updated - - - Oh, and also, a Tyche analog would be really really cool. It should enter the inner solar system at a predefined date so you have only a tiny chance to get to it. And make it go in below Neidon, but on the other side of the solar system at the time. A Brown Dwarf might be a tad bit out of the scope of the mod though. Maybe as an official expansion pack to OPM. - - - Updated - - - What is the fourth moon like? Also, there might be a problem with the Tritonalike if you want to add an atmosphere. Atmospheres don't work very well visually much smaller than Duna, which is why Eeloo didn't have an atmosphere. It was supposed to, but it wouldn't work without a rewrite of the atmosphere shader which was not part of the scope of the little 0.18.2 Christmas update. I believe, hwoever, if you have E.V.E. producing a haze layer with no fade distance, it works on the surface. (Source: Early versions of E.V.E. with glowing Mun becoming an "atmosphere" on Mun)
  16. I found that when you make Urlum's rotation 0, it works fine. THe moons work, the roation doesn't go around and reset, it's all good. And it can still go backwards, because EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements works fine with reverse rotations!
  17. Let's save the atmospheres for Neidon. What about a planet that has an ocean but no atmosphere? You could use the Better Buoyancy mod and Hydrobrake! I'm kidding, oceans need atmospheres to stay liquid.
  18. Is that a gas giant? It looks awesome to see a probe dropped down like that. Also kind of satisfying. (You won't crush me this time Gas Giant!) - - - Updated - - - Remember they aren't stars, they're really really hot SGCs. Presumably different sizes and densities of SGCs will lead to different colors. - - - Updated - - - Idea: A scale replica of the Solar System somewhere as an easter egg. (Maybe as the spawnpoint if you enter a specific seed)
  19. Does anyone have a config for EVE that uses Astronomer Interstellar version of Tekto (Which looks really cool) but is otherwise Edge of Oblivion?
  20. Clouds might not seem to be a priority until you realize that Jool should literally be a cloud. (Not really). Point is, Jool's "surface" is clouds, so they need to actually be clouds. Clouds would really be cool, I hope they do get implemented in some way soon. But I'm not sure EVE is the best way to do it.
