  1. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/entries/747-The-Making-Of-New-KSC Any of you who weren't around before 0.21 need to read this. And also everyone else. The design part about KSC isn't that interesting, the important part is around the bolded line "It's not Kerbal?"
  2. First off, I kind of see a parallel to the visual style of Team Fortress 2 and KSP's stock parts. There are some different feels even to the various stockalike mods that exist. RLA feels softer and a bit more cartoony than even the stock parts. Near Future Propulsion is a bit sleeker and shiny, but in a retrofuture kind of way. Atomic Age is particularly odd. The artist Porkjet made the existing stock parts to fit in with the Kerbal style, but somehow he has his own distinct style, a bit more subtle than stock parts, and with some things like 2D textures of camera-holes which might be modeled in directly by another modeler. It's in Porkjet's own style, and since his parts are in-game stock, they are by definition stockalike. Stock eXTension obviously does it quite well, because it in fact steals textures from stock parts. Personally, I think that you lose part of the stockalike feel if you know you can group together a set of parts to a particular mod. So having just a few niche parts is more stockalike to me, simply because it doesn't really expand much upon what the game has. Small things like SXT's 2.5m Cargo Bays or the Mk3 Fuselage end cargo bay thing; or something to that end. The best ever stockalike mod was Kerbal Stock Parts eXtension. Most of it's parts were placed in stock and Claira Lyrae's work on KSPX and NovaSilisko's work on the stock parts are nearly indistiguishable. Add to that the fact that now KSPX has so few parts to add anymore, and it makes it even a bit better. The fact about the stock aesthetic about how SLS parts and Spaceplane parts look more advanced than the other parts makes sense when you consider tech progression. Low tech parts in the tech tree really do look lower tech, obviously. And finally, I'd like to end with a statement from Bac9, back when he was remaking the KSC. Just my 0.02 funds.
  3. In the devnotes*, it has been noted that the entire heat system for ships is being redone. Yay! Apparently it will make more sense. This is of course a requirement for re-entry heating. This got me thinking, what about ElectricCharge? Could it use an overhaul? If so, how? *I'm too busy/lazy to look for the link, look yourself or take my word for it. This thread will hopefully come up with ideas and discussion on how electricity works in real life and in KSP, and how it should work in the latter. First off, an overhaul of ElectricCharge isn't really needed for any features in 1.0, but would be a fix in and of itself. ElectricCharge in KSP is a resource, like Monopropellant or XenonGas. It can be generated by RTGs (Magic nothing-to-power parts) or by Solar Panels, which require the sun's light to work. It is also a bi-product of many rocket engines, thanks to an alternator. It can be stored in batteries or parts which contain batteries. Batteries are essentially fuel tanks for electricity. In real life, (and I'm oversimplifying mostly because I don't really understand the subject that well), Batteries are chemical generators which react, and the result is electricity. Batteries are recharged by un-reacting the chemicals, so they can be used again. So what are the solutions? Is there even really a problem? I figure that perhaps removing the resource nature of ElectricCharge and making it a system with separate numbers for voltage, amperage, and all that jazz. Wow I am so ignorant about electricity and need to learn more pls help.
  4. Yeah, I'm not sure I understand this. 1 Step equals 0.32 Meters, but a Kilostep equals not 320 meters, but 1,000 meters. What? This problem seems to happen with all of the measurements. That said, as far as creativity goes, I like it. Except for Temperature. I still think Water's Boiling Point and Freezing Point at 1 Kerbin Atmosphere would be the measure for temperature, much like Celsius. However, science will probably use Kelvin. Also, I don't understand the time stuff. What is it based on exactly? Additionally, I don't think the Electricity stuff makes sense. (Though neither does the Kerbal power system anyway.)
  5. Actually that's a great idea. I forgot about new features in 1.0! - - - Updated - - - No, and besides, if my dad's name were Sherman and he married my mother, my mother's last name would then be Sherman. Last names are completely regardless of gender. And also, this: Squad's original criteria were that they had to be expendable, replenishable, and agendered. They have stated that they failed on that, and with nearly everyone* who plays KSP for the first time seeing male features, they decided to add it in. *Not literally.
  6. Maybe it's both. Walt Disney made the Man In Space documentary which introduced spaceflight to the everyman.
  7. Yes, exactly. Of course, if you don't come back, Kerlington will sue you and then your lawyer will have a bad day and not show up to work. You will fail the challenge, and your entire space company will crumble just so that Robert Kerlington can have a new yacht.
  8. I'm not sure it sends out a good message to have female kerbals be a thing and not have at least one woman in charge of something at the KSC. At the very least, make some of the engineers and scientists walking around the VAB/SPH female. So who can be replaced by another kerbal? We have the following staff: Gene Kerman (Mission Controller, based on Gene Kranz) Wernher von Kerman (Lead Scientist, based on Wernher von Braun) Mortimer Kerman (Lead Accountant, not based on anyone as far as I can tell) Linus Kerman (Wernher's intern, not based on anyone as far as I can tell) Walt Kerman (Head PR guy, probably based on Walt Disney, even though Disney wasn't known to walk around in a hazmat suit) Gus Kerman (Head of Operations, based on astronaut Gus Grissom, or maybe just because it's funny) So how about Katherine Kerman being the Engineer Reporter, based on Katherine Johnson? But I think the most important thing is having female scientists and engineers in the VAB/SPH. EDIT: Upon realized that typing up a post while on painkillers is a less-than-optimal idea, I have fixed some horrible errors in morality. Even though I still kinda hate Linus because he stole my snacks on several occasions.
  9. Fix it now. Oh, that's not nice. Sorry. Please fix it very soon.
  10. It's Kerbal Stuff. I need this mod very very soon. I need a mirror. Never ever release a mod without a mirror, or people will be insanely mad at you.
  11. An idea: A way to have collaborative save files without having to screw about with turns. When you fly a ship into space orbit, you can then "finalize" it and it will publish to the main server, and any changes to a craft will be made. A Permission and Turns system for any one spacecraft will be needed. (two people can't dock to the same ship at any one time, for instance.) The plugin would also maintain contact so your game knows when to reload a craft.
  12. Idea: another, separate collaboration that would allow multiple users to be collaborating at any one time. (4 saves in total, 2 calendar and 2 freeplays) Also, are players allowed to have more than one ship per turn? If so, would they then not be allowed to dock?
  13. Holy crap, you have Halnie kerman! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/37642-Jeb-Bob-Bill-Halnie That was one of the first female kerbals ever!
  14. I'll participate. Building a low partcount HypeTrain shuttle maybe? - - - Updated - - - So how would I participate in the free shared file exactly?
  15. Not for a while, sorry. The current version should be at least as stable as it has been, and I think someone else mentioned that they'd like to take over.
  16. I had a dream where I landed a rocket at my house, and while I don't think it's even really possible, I still feel like asking. Could you have Google maps overlay onto Kerbin? If even a small chance of this, I would still expect that it would need a complete rewrite of PQS. And probably a stable internet. Just an idea to ponder. don't hit me pls
  17. How about, instead of pulling a role reversal, we did this: Klingon Space Program is a multi-genre space exploration game where the Kerbal can create their own massive scale space military. The game was created on stardate -311485.22038305417 by MILITIA, a marketing company from Mexikerb. In KSP, you send out tall spiny-foreheaded creatures called "Klingons" into their star system, conquering it all the way. It comes in three game modes: Sandbox, Conquest, and Career. In Sandbox mode, all of the parts are ready and unlocked for you to use. In Conquest mode, you simply fly out and conquer all of the alien worlds, gaining fear in your enemies. In Career mode, you have to balance Bribery, Fear, and Technological Progress to conquer the galaxy! Features: *A fully fledged physics and orbital motion system, forced from the Congolmeration Engine. *Fly Missions to Praxis, and other moons of the Klinzhai Star System. *Assemble massive war machines in orbit. *Full modding support with a massive coalition of modders. *Build ships with multiple stages, and crush those who stand beneath them. *Klingonauts, train them to be honourable warriors and improve the technological progress of the race. *Military conquest mode, where you can explore and conquer other star systems brutally.
  18. I would be so sad if it was cancelled!
  19. Every time I try to launch, it brings me eight months into the future! Is there a workaround to this bug? Also, I've found that if the air is moving too fast, then the rockets won't respond to staging inputs. It's like this isn't even a Carlinschev Type 1 Advance Society.
  20. That's old. Very old. Planet Factory's original planets have yet to be correctly implemented again.
  21. Last I found was that a unit of Fuel or Oxidizer is equal to about 5 liters.
  22. Someone with a lot of free time should make models and sell them. Accounting for the ink and paper is a given in the cost, just like the material in a 3D printer. But unlike a 3D Printer, most of the cost would be for the person painstakingly assembling the models, which is probably a lot more tedious than editing the model before printing it. The best part is that larger models would be less expensive, because it's easier to assemble big things of paper.
  23. Man I just wish SQUAD would partner up with whoever holds the IP of Interstellar, and make an official expansion pack that adds a wormhole around Jool that leads into the Kerbalized Gargantuan system.
  24. The train tickets are free. It's admission that isn't. I am sad. Proper 1.0 HypeTrain will once again be free admission.
