My Science Lab Manifesto
Wjolcz replied to Aegolius13's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Science system, ho! Yep. The whole thing is a mess. It started as a mess ans then got only worse because of this avalanche effect when devs tried to fix it. I really like the idea of MPL being a part of a contract. That's way better idea than limiting the output, or whatever. What I would also like to have is an option that let's me choose which currency (science, funds or rep) science experiments generate. That thing alone would fix a lot of problems I'm having with the current science gathering system. -
Space Corporation mode
Wjolcz replied to Legendary Emu's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The problem is when two players decide to control the market and just switch the prices from high to low and from low to high so each of them can make money. Or setting them as high as the competition because people are greedy and dumb. In such a situation the market would become obsolete because everyone instead of buying anything would just go and mine it themselves. Anyway, it's nice to think about all the possibilities and considering what would happen if, but I don't think a free market will ever happen in KSP. I don't even think multiplayer will ever be implemented because of how complex it is to implement in a game that was never designed for it. It's cool and all, but I've burst my bubble of hopes and dreams some time ago. Now I'm waiting for the development to stop so I can finally mod the game and keep it that way for a long time. -
Space Corporation mode
Wjolcz replied to Legendary Emu's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, then the answer is probably it's very hard to implement in a way it works without any major problems. EVE Online is a much older game than GTA Online. The devs of EVE had a lot more time to work on it and find the right way to do this. I wouldn't count on SQUAD doing the same. They lack the time and devs. At least right now. I also don't think comparing the two is a good idea. In GTA there's only one resource to deal with: you invest money and get more or lose some. Not sure how the market works in EVE, but you probably throw the resources in and their price goes down? I guess that's doable. Dunno. I've just changed my mind twice in one post. I don't care. Have some bits of my thought processes. They don't happen often. -
Space Corporation mode
Wjolcz replied to Legendary Emu's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
To reply to the first part: contracts would be a one time thing just like they are now, so no problem with exploiting the resource-rich spots. You are asked to bring X units of ore from planet Y back to Kerbin. You land, recover it and the contract is gone until a new one appears. No room for any kind of exploit. No need for new resources. It's that simple. A new resource would actually be waaaay more prone to exploits than the contracts. The second part about a market in MP: as much as I would love to have it, the problem with markets is that they can be exploited very easily. In GTA V there is a market only in singleplayer simply because there was a way in MP to destabilize it and earn tons and tons of money by investing almost nothing. So it's not that hard to implement. A simple tweak to one kind of contract. It's just that devs never bothered to do that, for some odd reason. Somehow randomly generated contracts are superior than the ones that actually make sense. -

How are they planning to deal with helium tanks on the reused stages? They are no good for reuse if they are faulty.

So basically he wants give away his mod to be implemented into the stock game? For free? -
I remember watching a movie once (it was with Robert De Niro, I think). It was about a film maker directing a movie and there was that one scene where a guy and a dog died. When they shot the guy, nobody was bothered. When it came to the dog everyone was shocked and the movie was a flop (I think; not many were happy about it that's all I know). Anyway, adding any kind of animals to the game will result in the same situation. The reception for KSP will probably go down. Most people will simply won't want risking their animals' lives even though they are not real. We have probes and kerbals. That's all we need, really. E: putting animals in capsules would also make almost no sense since they wouldn't be able to pilot the craft. You would need a probe to control it. You can easily simulate that by emtying the command pod and sending it into space. That's how it's done nowadays. The capsules fly empty before there are any humans put into it. KSP is meant to be this modern/near future space sim. We don't send animals into space anymore (not the big ones at least).

Allow us to disable the staging delay
Wjolcz replied to Temeter's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I don't mind the delay actually. I guess the intention was to delay the decoupler-engine exhaust contact. I remember blowing up the upper bits of the previous stage many times in the past. For the rest I just use action groups. -

Space Corporation mode
Wjolcz replied to Legendary Emu's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
That's pretty much what I wanted since the dawn of ISRU. Except as a playstyle option in the career, not a new mode. You would simply accept programs/missions that asked you to mine ore from a certain place and bring it back home (Kerbin) for profit. E: it wouldn't even be a new type of contract. Just a simple tweak to the ore hauling ones with the target set to LKO/Kerbin landed. I mean, we are asked to haul tanks full of ore to places that don't even have ISRU processing units. The objectives are just random. Why not set the permanent main objective to be focused in the vicinity of Kerbin? Not like ore can be recovered for profit, or anything. It's literally dirt cheap. Because it's, uh... dirt. -
These are some very nice cockpits!

I remember the last time I used MechJeb. After it stopped working because of a new update I had to relearn all of the controls. I literally wasn't able to launch simple rockets or even dock. Now I play with KER as it has all the info I need.

I also find planes to be very easy. HarvesteR once said that anything that looks like a plane will fly. And it happens to be true.

Just in case someone is wondering: This is not one of my rant threads. I want to actually enjoy this game for once. So I was thinking recently about starting a new save. Throw the Historical Tech Tree (and some other essential mods) into the game and set the science output to 0% and funds output to higher than average. That way I will be able to "buy" the tech nodes (not really tho, but it's the closest I can simulate it in the stock game, will probably need to cheat in extra cash to upgrade the Admin Building first), simply by exchanging money for science whenever I find a need for a new node. Yeah, I know it took me a while to realize that I can do that. I'm not a smart man. I know @regex has some stock presets he enjoys. Knowing that he is an RSS fan I'd like to have a go at them myself. So do you guys have some settings you particularly like? Maybe they have some pros and some cons? Please share them either by posting a screenshot or simply saying what you do in order to enjoy the career mode.

Whaaaaaaaaaaa!? It it's stock then kudos to devs. That's actually pretty cool. Finally some way of rewarding the easter egg hunters.

Why is the HG-55 not a Relay antenna?

I assume you mean they are too heavy. 4 da new playaz of course! To balance things out and introduce them to the game mechanics! It's how things work in gamez yo yo yo yo -

Science texts should contain science
Wjolcz replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yes, I agree. This game could be a great educational tool and yet the potential of it is wasted by the science system we have. Nothing wrong with witty science messages being witty. It's just that graphs and actual scientific data would be fun to do too. Also think about telescopes and cameras as scientific tools. Those would be great to have. -
Forget about DLCs and create a new game instead
Wjolcz replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The problem with this is the code of KSP being messy. We can't even disable one of the currencies in career mode. Not until recently, at least. It feels like KSP's first developers were learning as they were developing the game. I'd rather if that didn't happen again. -
That one wins my vote. Not sure what to think about the whole SLS program. I think it will be one of the last expendeble rockets to fly once it's finished. They are building it mainly because they have the shuttle engines still laying around, don't they? IMO the future is in reusability.

Forget about DLCs and create a new game instead
Wjolcz replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yep. That's why I don't play War Thunder. I'd rather buy the whole game (and support the devs directly) than have these microtransactions and DLC that let me just grind less. I think the best way to incorporate this idea would be to look at NASA's and other space agencies atmospheric research programs. There are a lot of things they do with planes (SOFIA, SR-71, Pegasus, etc.). They could throw in the MP and let us create races. I think it could be a lot of fun. Basically IL-2 + Modern tech + building capabilieties of KSP + an engaging pilot career + Multiplayer (possible cooperation/versus missions and stuff like that). There aren't many atmospheric flying/building games (Simple Planes is the most popular one right now AFAIK), so if SQUAD decided to create their own it could become another bestseller. -

I just assumed there's not much hope left in this one. -
Does any of you guys has that problem when OBS records the first frame of the video and then it stays like that for the rest of the recording? Maybe there's something wrong with the settings or my pc is bad?
-
Well... But that's like taking a paper with the results of a temp scan from Kerbin to Duna and once you're there the ink suddenly changes it's shape and says that the temperature was different. What kind of Schroedinger ink is that?
