Go big, go Laythe. That's what I always do.

Yeah, the spaceship armada is the best option IMO. That's what I usually do in my playthroughs. You can also try and use slingshot manouvers to visit multiple bodies with one probe. I actually think I will do that. Might be interesting.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Wjolcz replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
What are retrograde orbits good for? And I mean for spacecraft. Moons have a tendency of being torn apart by tidal forces. -
Well, that's just how it is with stock contracts system. I'd recommend playing with Strategia (once it's updated) because it gives you the control over what kind of programs are generated. The stock system is kind of dumb when it comes to guessing what you want to do next and doesn't take transfer windows into account. It asks you to go places simply because you went interplanetary by accident (happened to me today, now I'm seeing Duna contracts all over the Mission Control, even though I just landed on the Mun).

Here are my settings for the "Scienceless Mode". I have the Historical Tech Tree, Field Research Contracts Pack, KerboKatz Small Utilities (for science-cash exchange widget), and Monthly Budgets (+ some essential extras like KIS/KAS, KAC, KER, etc.) and still waiting for Strategia to be updated. The science rewards set to 10% make the experiments kind of symbolic in usage, but can't do much about that (not until someone creates a proper experiments-for-rep mod). So yeah, it's pretty fun and balanced so far. Still not what I wanted, but close enough. Will make a thread about it, just in case someone else would like to play the game the way I do. EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I think I have disabled contracts funding. I recommend doing that because otherwise you might end up with the maximum amount of money (from contracts' rewards) even before the end of the month.

Different launch sites
Wjolcz replied to KerbalKid's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The problem is they would probably need ab artist who would create these new KSC/runways, because the only one I can think of is RoverDude. And he's busy right now. Would be amazing if they hired bac9 again, because his work is amazing. -
I just recently launched the game again and installed a bunchnof mods that (sort of) let me play a scienceless career. And I'm having fun so far. Still waiting for Strategia to be updated but I see a lot of potential in the mod compilation I've composed. Try doing the same. Mods help a lot when you're feeling burnt out.

That's a pretty cool mod! -
Allow text entry of numerical tweakables

I agree. -
Thanks, devs. I've never actually posted in this thread because I was waiting for the right moment, but I guess it's the time now. Even though I rant about many things I consider bad and wrong, KSP is one of my favourite games of all time. And it has actually sparked in me the interest for history of spaceflight and space exploration. It made me care about a few things I wasn't aware of a few years ago. I'm actually glad I found this game and supported it.

It's all very, very, very sad news, but I kind of had that feeling for a while now, and well, I could say I was right, but I won't because it's just depressing. I can only hope that the guys team up again and create another awesome game (Kerbal Aircraft Program? Please?) though probably without Kerbals, because they are the property of SQUAD.

Interstellar Observation Instrument
Wjolcz replied to SpacePilotMax's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Why not both? We could have witty messages and actual graphs and science stats in the same window. -
Tbh I think this kind of Mission Control feature could be saved for multiplayer. Akin to Telemachus or Houston mods. I'm not against it. I just don't think I'd use it much until it provided actual useful info or be a part of MP.

Contracts and missions for the KSC Staff
Wjolcz replied to XB-70A's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, it's not that bad of an idea, but the problem is there's nowhere else to fly to other than KSC when we talk about jet planes. Also you don't send VIPs into space. Not until they pay you to do so. Anyway, it's better to have a well trained astronaut that is creative and physically suited for the job than old but smart people that know how to build rockets, not fly them. More actually meaningful atmospheric missions wouldn't be bad to have though. -
What will the launch of Mars Dragon look like? Since it's going to be launched on FH I would assume they are either going for a direct transfer or put it in a parking orbit first. Now a direct transfer injection will mean the middle core will be lost, right? If they would go for the parking orbit it would be easier to recover the middle core, but then there comes the question if the upper vacuum stage has enough dV to send the Dragon off to Mars.

That's kinda complicated and I don't temember the exact numbers of everything I had last time I played it, but I can tell you that I was far enough to have a tiny probe, simple base module and a jet drone landed on Laythe. Wanted to continue my Laythe colonization plans when an update came out, tweaked the tree in a way I couldn't use previously available jet engines, so I got angry and quit. That's the last time I tried to play a proper career save. But it got tweaked. Then again. And another tweak came out. And now I'm wishing for a quick end of development of this game so I can finally mod it and keep it that way for more than 2 months.

You are going to hell. No joke. That's like the worst of all the sins.

Interstellar Observation Instrument
Wjolcz replied to SpacePilotMax's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I agree, not about the aliens though. What could be cool instead is easter eggs. There can be so many things hidden in the skybox. A telescope part should also have real science as an outcome. Take a picture, get cool stuff and scientific data about the distance, size, spectrum, metallicity and all that fancy astrophysical jazz. -

The only problem is there are people who's lost their virginity with the Mun a long time ago when career was still just a dream. It's a great sim(-ish) game, but the replayablity is close to zero once you've been there, done that. As much as this is true and the first Mun landing (and other firsts of course) made me love the game, that's not everything. A good game should be enjoyed each time it's restarted instead of being a one-time pretty firework. You launch it once, see the pretty stuff for the first and the last time, and there's not much left. Same here. And about the bit about derailing the thread (because I can't quote it for some od reason): I think all that's been said here is pretty relevant. The career/science aspect of the game definitely could be better. Otherwise I wouldn't ask about all this.

Wowowow! You are the best! Thanks! The pack includes the shadow casting effects like in the picture with Jool and Laythe, right? It's not a separate mod?

Ok, so maybe a modlet that makes the experiments' output reputation? Does anyone know how to create such thing? I see that nobody has done it before so it's either hardcoded or nobody felt a need for such a mod?
