Zepto Eagleworks - Z-51 "Cobra" V/STOL
zombiphylax replied to Giggleplex777's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yeah, those lander leg systems seem really finicky, yours seems to be a bit more stable. -

Excellent job with the VTOL, I hadn't seen the cargo bay yet, but I like how you adapted it. -
Kerbal Theme Park - Ferris Wheels
zombiphylax replied to DennyTea's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wow, someone with a lot of time on their hands could potentially actually make a theme park savegame with this idea and renePRO's rollercoaster. I imagine with the new craters, the Mun would be a good place to put it... Great job! -

No problem, the original Sparrow was inspired by Mythmatic's Viper SSTO that was posted on Reddit, so it's neat to see this design mutate as it gets passed from person to person. -

You got us mixed up I'm honored as well though! -
That looks great, Parkaboy, what is your launch profile like with those engines? I've never tried those jets before, just the ram jets... Haha, that's excellent, Yar! I'm assuming that's still with FAR by the return landing? I still haven't brought my smaller Sparrows to another planet, pretty nice to see that someone took the Fat Sparrow sight-seeing.

It's the official response whenever anyone asks this question. If they gave release dates and missed them, some in this community would become wrathful.

Arcadia - Permanent Kerbrazilian Minmus Base (pic heavy)
zombiphylax replied to Parkaboy's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Those are some pretty nice Minimus launch systems. How much fuel do the nuclear stages have left in orbit? -

No problem, here's the .craft file, it's a very steady ride as long as you use SAS, but it has incredibly tight fuel tolerances. This thread briefly explains how to get it into orbit, but if you haven't played around with SSTO spaceplanes much, it might be a bit frustrating to get the hang of it. Once you figure it out though, it's very stable so it makes it easy to repeatedly get it into orbit. -

Finished this last night. Based on my older Sparrow series SSTO which can be found through the link in my signature. -
The FatSparrow SSTO: The fine folks at Mockheed Lartin saw the need for a 3-man SSTO and decided to do the only logical thing a Kerbal Aerospace Company could do: ripped the front off an existing SSTO platform, jammed a larger cockpit on the front, and reinforced the wing roots. This thing is different on launch than the smaller Sparrows, it has greater lift so it relies on the ability to cruise ~25.6km with throttle decreased half-way to the first line down on the throttle indicator, and letting the jet take you to just shy of 1300m/s in order to lift the heavier payload into orbit. When your liquid fuel hits ~470 turn on the LFEs and ride about level until your jet suffocates, bring throttle to full, and kill the jet engine & close the intakes, then pull up to ~45 degrees until around 36km. Just like the other Sparrows, this has a very tight fuel margin. It's very stable to fly though, though it needs a smidge of trim to stay perfectly level after take off, but you'll adjust the back before you engage the LFEs. (Download .craft file here (MediaFire))

Looks nice and clean. The lift issues during VTO are caused by lift and drag balance issues from what I can figure out while tinkering with VTOL designs. I don't think there's a way around it yet without making a craft that has symmetrical values fro and aft. Oh well. Keep it up!
-
Wow, sorry, been a bit busy and didn't realize people were digging through my old threads to reply. Should be able to lift quite a bit, can't say I've really tested it though, you'd have to add a docking port right at the CoG though... Thank you! I wish I could clip the I-beams properly to make them appear shorter though :/ Haha, it's ok, they're a bit of a pain to do honestly for anything with more than a fuel tank. It's in the link on my sig, down at the very bottom of that page (or you could head here). There's a youtube link that briefly explains how to fly it on the SpacePort info section.

Kestrel transport VTOL (image heavy?)
zombiphylax replied to Mrspoonman09's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Kerbals have a ridiculously low mass. Nice work, Mrspoonman, how does it handle hovering while low on fuel? -
KVH-5 Pegasus Along with the 3 flight-crew members in the cockpit, the Pegasus safely carries 6 Kerbals slung below the fuselage with ladders on either side for boarding in the field. Comes with enough fuel to loiter for awhile while searching for your downed pilots, or to deliver crews from one airstrip to another. (Download .craft file here (MediaFire)) Performs like a heavier, less agile KV-2 Griffon, so please watch this video to figure out how to pilot either one. Just take it easy on the throttle.
-
Awesome, thank you. I'm surprised this hasn't been given more attention as many people are having trouble figuring out how to deal with the new file structure.
-
Haha, that's pretty rad, how hard was it to rebalance it with those docking ports?

[Request]Noob-Proof SSTO
zombiphylax replied to The Jedi Master's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Haha, I would disagree with the Sparrow being "noob-proof," but thanks for the recommendation! Rune's Crys is pretty nice and friendly, with high air-intake tolerances, and a bit of fuel. SecondGuessing's Swift is pretty nice, but does require a bit of finesse (incredibly minimal though, was impressed with it). Cupcake's VTOL SSTO is fun to play around with, but does require understanding of how VTOLs work. If Jedi Master tried the Sparrow, and could get it into orbit, I'd recommend ssTALONps' ARX-3 series, it's pretty similar but with a bit more fuel. Haven't had a chance to try any of the 3-man designs yet. -
...except for all of its incredible contributions to medical research and technology, and mobile air/water purification technology. Besides all of that, you're right, huge waste of money...
