[0.23.5] Realism Overhaul: ROv5.2 + Modlist for RSS 6/30/14
Spanier replied to NathanKell's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Ok, so here some technical questions for that: 1. Can I edit edited configs, say, a tank was modified by a .cfg, and I want to edit the same modules/parameters again with another .cfg 2. How does thrust, volume and mass change. Everything scales with 1.6³ (say 4.1), or thrust with 1.6²? And for the engine FX: output_log -
[0.23.5] Realism Overhaul: ROv5.2 + Modlist for RSS 6/30/14
Spanier replied to NathanKell's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Question, will you add a rescale of the stock engines/tanks to match the new metric system, or shall I do it myself? And are those many additional parts essential? Edit: How can I turn of this: -
Seems like you broke broken physics Anyway, does the lowest Jool atmosphere now melt stuff like Kerbol does?
-
Well, it was Nova's idea to make a version of his mod close to the original system but with much more conclusiveness to the laws of physics.
-
Can you add an option to balance all stages at once (next to the "balance all" button), so it get's easier to balance large multi-tank rockets.
-
Would burn under oxygen.

Asuming Laythe is just scaled down to ~10% it would be possbile but uninhabitable: The oxygen could be produced by some organisms living on hydrothermal vents and escaped from the oceans to the atmosphere. The problem of liquid oceans could be explained by some extreme greenhouse effect from the water vapor and lots of CO2. Since this isn't enough to keep pure water liquid, the oceans could be made out of some sulfuric acid solution, allowing melting points of up to -60C° at concentration levels of ~30% (battery acid). This could result from fairly high SO2 levels in the atmosphere, that react with the carbon dioxide and the water vapor. The rest of the atmosphere could be composed of N2. And noone said, Jool has such an extreme magnetic field as Jupiter does have, it could also be as strong as Saturn's or Earth's magnetic field and therefore, Laythe wouldn't be stripped off it's atmosphere. Conclusion: Ocean: ~70% H2O, ~30% H2SO4 Atmosphere: ~10% O2, ~50% CO2, ~35% N2, ~5% SO2 Surface Temperatur: <-30C° EXTREMELY TOXIC!!!

Therefore other numbers as the actual mass can variate strongly. Since the rotation of non-locked bodies doesn't affect the system and are more or less totally random, I didn't suggested any boundries for them. For the scale height of the atmosphere I've currently no conclusive idea of how to make it in a good fashion, so it fits the overal shape. Ideas and constructive criticism are welcome

One question (bug) I saw from your pictures: Why isn't the unlit side of Jool pitch-black when viewed from the inside of Kerbin's atmosphere? And how is the progress on axial tilts?

RLA Stockalike v10 released 11th August
Spanier replied to hoojiwana's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
The legacy of Claira, I'm looking forwards to the full release! -
Yeah, it seems to be more a problem of RAM and so on, to have Earth with 1m detail, you would need a 6378100x12756200 height map, what is about 9.7 million times as big as 4096x2048
-
The surface area of a sphere is proportional to the square of its radius, and Kerbin has a radius of about 1/10.6 of Earth's. So the surface of Earth is 10.6² of the surface of Kerbin, thats 112.36, or 11236%. Since Kerbin's surface allready has 100%, you just have to add 11136% I know that Kerbin can easily be rescaled, but the surface detail becomes so ugly ... Seriously, you could land directly on the slope of K2 without tipping in the current build of RSS. I just wanted re-mention the idea to add a version of his mods, that brings in a version of KSP with somewhat realistic sizes and distances, that Nova allready pointed out on the older threat.
-
Ah, ok, so to create some real sized planets, you would just need some noise modules for the height textures, so it doesn't look boring, and you scale it up to 11236% (considering Kerbin becomes like Earth).
-
You need some very passioned modeler, if you want to go for the proposed stock-alike system with real scales, to model planets with 11136% more detail Anyway, are you planning to also add some asteroids, that are not nearly spherical (i.e. Ida)
-
Since there's currently no way, to add a second indipendent solar system to KSP, I think, but the variety of ideas for planets is so overwhelming large, that I think, that Novas version 3 of his mod could be just the beginning of a new generation of solar systems. The problem of random planets, swiftgates, would probably be to create a generator, thats capable to create "good looking" planets, that are consistent to the overal design and so on. I don't know how much work it is to create a planet from scratch, but since there are enough talented modders out there, the next step to go is Mappacks. This mod lets you choose from multiple mappacks (default, Nova's medium pack, Nova's full pack, binary system, etc.) on startup of a new game (just an idea!). This would make easier to bring new ideas for planets to the public.
-
I will definitely try your mods, when they are ready to publish. Your planes are exactly the way I want the game to go. If you're going to make it, I offer you my help in stability analysis of the altered systems with a view to n-body gravity. By the way, are you going to change axial tilts, or are there no solutions up right now, how to solve the problems with unity? As for version 2, Kerbin and Mun should be exactly like earth and moon, I think.

Planet Ideas And Names For The Future Of Kerbal Space Program
Spanier replied to Dead Pixel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'd love to see Novas suggestion ingame, as I think the Joolian moons are too small and Jool itself too light By the way, I', currently testing the Kerbol system in Universe Sandbox with realistic dimensions (radii increased by ~10.6, densities decreased by ~10.6, orbital periods increased by ~3.6). The Rotation of the objects themselves are coherent with their RL counterparts (Eve rotating slowly backwards). Right now I have everything from Moho to the Mun, but I'll leave Minmus until the very end, cause I have no idea how to stabilize it. Incidentally Gilly is quite unstable with it's high eccentrity. With a orbital period of ~15 days and inclination of 12°, it's eccentrity goes from initially 0.55 up to 0.70 and back, and the inclination goes down to ~10° and stays their. In some calculations, Gilly got kicked out into a Moho crossing orbit, or slowly got cirularized with an orbital period of just 3 days (I think it might have crashed, if I've run the simulation even longer). Another thing that astonishes me are the densities of Moho and Gilly, they are really low, Gilly would have evaporated so close to the Sun and Moho is too light to have been formed so close to the sun (Moho: 3.7 g/cm³, Mercury: 5.4 g/cm³) -

So if someone could combine this mod and the Real Solar System mod, we could bring "Orbiter" to KSP
