Exactly. A game like KSP needs no end. I see it as a flaw in the design that it now seems to inviting one. If done better, with some more well thought out game mechanics, you could just keep expanding your presence in space, exploring the planets in detail, and bringing more and more kerbals to places.

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!

...Something like that. -
How close to being totally out of fuel have you been?
Tw1 replied to Randazzo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Completely. Many many times. Of course, the more interesting ones are when you run out just short of that last maneuver, or last correction burn. -

Fllying something absurd, trying to pull up.... Nope. -
I still think this is a flaw in the game design. That's not bad.

I did it for some of my sims, http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/109329-I-named-my-Sims-after-the-kerbals?p=1711533#post1711533, but actuall real life kids seems like taking it a bit for. But it will be interesting to check census data of people named Jebediah in several years time, to see if there was a notable effect.

You can't sit like that ? Also, as promised, a screenshot of the house: Also visible in the back here: It's got a balcony, (and a pool) And a pond to catch fish in.

Try building a long, non symmetric craft. That makes parachutes more of a challenge, but it's a little less fiddley now, as we have the offset option. Playing without life support mods, and warping to launch Windows is cheating.

I had a look, sounds like they had pretty convoluted Sim lives. I've had to find my Jeb one romantic interest, and have only had one time where a Sim almost died... Then again things are probably a little different in Sims 3. Why didn't I think of that? *facepalm* Oh well, I wasn't really going for a close recreation. But their house is sort of green. Might add a photo latter.

Eve - A ground based circumnavigation @ 13 m/s
Tw1 replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
You finished! Well done! This is a mission report for the archives. Was there a part of Eve you liked best, while you where there? -
Oh, looks like I... Discovered a way to land on the ocean floor? Yes! Let the colonisation begin!

Well, most of them. This way, I don't have to spend forever coming up with names. They aren't exactly like those they have been named after either. But anyway, here is the Kerwin family: Bill Hardworking father of five, he is an author and a scientist. (His Job title is mad scientist, the dress code seems to require that he spikes up his hair in a ridiculous manner before leaving for work.) He's written a few books so far, two fiction, one non-fiction, and is currently working on one called "The rivers of Venus/the town on the Moon." He's also quite athletic, and artistic, and pretty good at chess. When I was making him, I didn't realise the star face paint would stick around, and didn't know how to remove it. But I'm used to it now, he wouldn't look right without it. Bella Bella is in the Military (air force) career. Not long after this photo was taken, she achieved her lifetime wish of becoming an astronaut, managing to juggle the demands of work and raising their many kids. She's a computer wiz and an excellent handywoman. Like her husband, she is brave, very fit, and enjoys fishing. Jebediah The oldest son, Jebediah is a lot calmer than his namesake, though similarly brave and charismatic. He's very smart, but also a little absent minded- he's found outside by the police after the town curfew, doing his homework a few times now. He likes to read, and has a part time job at the local bookstore. Robbert. Named for Bob, who he is not at all like. Robbert is very smart, having almost mastered the logic skill. But he also has the insane and excitable traits, and can be a little unpredictable- e.g., going swimming in his formal suit, but dressing in pajamas for a formal dinner. But apart from the odd quirk, he's quite a nice sim. His lifetime ambition is to become a chessmaster. Valentina Valentina and her twin, Vincent, take more after their father's artistic side. They also have a habit of saluting, probably form seeing their mum do. Valentina seems quite serious, but still quite playful. She likes the swings, and also painting. Vincent Vincent shares the same taste in friends as his sister, they seem to alternate in going over to the same kids house. He has the virtuoso trait, but hasn't yet showed much more interest in music than the others- possibly because I haven't bought any instruments yet. Jenny Named for Gene, she's the youngest (And the last one I'm allowing them to have). Like most of the family, she has the genius trait. She's very lucky having four siblings, two parents, and the ghost of a family friend to help look after her, but also has a very loud cry, which has kept the whole family awake on occasion. The family have a bit of a tradition of late night fishing trips. They sometimes stay well into the morning, and end up running late for things. Possibly a bit of a reflection on the person playing them..... Anyone else here play The Sims? Anyone made a KSP inspired family?

My girlfriend just surprised me with a KSP themed birthday

The attention to detail in the letter is particularly awesome. (Not going to call for marriage, because while that is cool, I know very little about your actual relationship. That stuff is up to you OP) -
I remember it well. I used to stick carts on my stations just to do this.
-
That's pretty cool, it's certainly minimal, dramatic, and gets the point across. Not sure about the slanted words myself, but it's an interesting representation of a kerbal you've got there.

Yeah, that happens. I draw and write for the fun of it, so the scedual ends up a bit like when I have time, and when I feel like it. I was drawing a bit today for this actually but These things, take time(link included 'cause I can't really sing that bit over the internet so well) But, have this montage of inconveniently zoomed and cropped WIPs as a little preview/teaser! Also, this next part will probably be about the halfway point of the story, unless I decide to extend it. (I could not find a way to split this next part without loosing the desired effect.) Edit: I am very happy with this next bunch of drawings and almost cant wait to show them.

This is certainly true, but interestingly, the don't amount to much. I read a fascinating book on the subject a few years back, which focused on childhood development. There are some strange small differences, like girls having greater numbers of colour sensitive eye cells, and boys starting out relying more on the amygdala, and where as girls start to use the frontal cortex more. Though what was interesting was the books focus- childrens' education. It suggested that the way science is taught could have something to do with why there is still greater numbers of males doing the subject. It was a very interesting read, even for someone like me who tends to take anything talking about the differences between genders with a grain of salt. I don't recall the details of the recommendation, but something like KSP which introduces the intriguing phenomena first, rather than explaining cause, then effect, then result, does seem something a long the lines of what the author was talking about. While more features on planet definitelly would be a plus, and more sciencey things to do, I'm hesitant to fill the kerbol system with life. That would be a bit of an immersion breaker maybe.

Whack A Kerbal? I don't get it

It's also handy when you have a decoupler fail to decouple, and a good aim. -
KSP - game or simulator?
Tw1 replied to ArgenTum's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It is a game, but personally, I think it could have been better if gamey elements took more of a back seats. Not so much making it a super accurate flight /spaceflight Sim, but more of a "run a space program, explore, do science and research, and spread across the system, " type thing, rather than "collect points, unlock stuff." -
I am hoping with the female Kerbal coming, and hopefully being used in the advertising, that the balance will improve. I for one, welcome our female brethren. Uh, sisteren? One would use one when talking about a general case, yep, it's just not as common. I quite like it too, t makes one sound educated and sophisticated if one uses it. But here in oz, it'SW best not to use it too much. We do have some gendered words, but generally only for people, or animals. I thought they were more about the otherkin, a bizarre movement which sprang up in imitation of gender identity issues, where people actually do identify as fictional species, and airconditioners and what ever. Plus, in the context of this thread, it's a away to deliberately not identify. I mean no offence to anyone who identifies as something other then their gender assigned at birth, and hope most others here don't either.

"He" often was used as the default, but as it refers quite specifically to a male, using it this way is less acceptable nowadays. One of the things that started to change as we worked out we should have gender equality. In books, they tend to say "he or she", but this is cumbersome. The use of 'they' rather than 'he' is a relatively recent development, and is mostly on the internet, or in circles with high levels of transgender awareness. Word genders are a really strange concept to english speakers, at least, to ones, who've never studied another language. It's strange when first given a list which sorts inanimate objects, or animal names, into genders, when all these things either don't reproduce, and therefore, seem like they shouldn't logically be gendered...(I studied French.) "One" is another gender neutral third person, or formal first person singular, but is very formal and old fashioned.

I come from the land down under.

I am a space merperson. With lazers. This is a good point. Remember, if you don't know, opt to use "They" rather than him or her.

This sounds about right. Yay for quicksave! Mostly on kerbin. There have been intentional crashes too, to clear away debris. Not so much with planes though, that's still a bit iffy, under NEAR I've found it a little more difficult to slow down before the runway. !hen I'm flying a conventional spaceship, I tend to land fine. There have also been a fair few rover accidents, occasionally due to going over bad terrain, sloppy driving, or just testing around KSC. Computer crashes have to make up a lot. Yeah, maybe twelveity billion.
