  1. I see. I looked at some solenoid valves, they look pretty pricey. I'm thinking about putting a parachute on this now. How would someone do that? It would have to be done electrically right?
  2. I hate to say it but... Birth control won't EVER be enough to take care of population. Fir my mom none of that stuff works, out of all 3 of her kids she was on birth control for all 3. Even if the pill was 100% effective for everyone not everyone will take it. The only way to stop population growth is the way it has been done in China. Even then it would need to be more enforced.
  3. I saw a video a while ago that worked pretty good. It was a gas/solid hybrid using GOX and roofing tar. They took a pipe and put another smaller pipe inside it, something really small like 1/8th of an inch in a tube 1 inch inside. And filled the outside tube with molten roofing tar then froze the whole thing. When it was done they hammered out the smaller pipe leaving a hole in the tar. Then they ran a tube to the hole in the tar and since it was 1/8th of an inch they could use any hose or with that diameter. Here's the video: The guy talking, Eric Stackpole apparently got hired by NASA. The rocket I'm talking about is at the end. It actually has mach diamonds.
  4. I found these: http://www.amazon.ca/Mosa-Whipped-Cream-Charger-Pack/dp/B00281ONLG/ref=pd_cp_k_1 Would they work if I put them on a needle and put a tube in the needle to get the stuff out? Then I could run that to paraffin wax.
  5. Thanks! I can get paraffin very easily. Where would I get N2O? Do I have to order it or can I go somewhere that sells stuff for welding like oxygen tanks?
  6. How would I open the opening before launch? With gas/solid hybrid you can open the valve then light it remotely but if you open the valve on the pressurized diesel it would flood out.
  7. How would you recommend I push the gas out of the rocket? It's going to be very small maybe a meter tall at most. I was thinking GOX and Roofing tar. But gas is easy to get. Would diesel work too? It's cheaper than gas.
  8. Gas fuel sounds cool. How effective is it? It would have low fuel mass too.
  9. I think hybrid engines have higher ISP. Hybrids also have a few other advantages: Being easy to make and get materials for. You can make solid fuel, you just have to boil stuff like stump remover. Expensive and dangerous. The idea of hybrids is cool too. It's like babies first steps. You do some of your own solid fuels for a while crawling, then you use your first oxygen tanks to make a hybrid rocket.
  10. I want to know what the best rocket fuels are for someone looking to make a basic rocket engine. I don't mean solid fuels. I want to know the best for liquid and hybrid. I was thinking and wondering if you could oxidize kerosene as it goes into the chamber and light it. I was working on making a roofing tar and GOX rocket but solid roofing tar is hard to find. LOX rockets are expensive and hard to make. I want something based on 3 things: 1. Attainability 2. Power 3. Ease of use. Everything is accepted! Thanks for the help.
  11. You wouldn't happen to be near Alberta Canada? I might be able to assist. What are you using for your solid fuels? On the topic of the thread, Estes website sells all sorts of cones and rocket kits. I would build one rocket and get a few nosecones for it and measure the height and speed of the launch. And for the wider topped cones compare it to the loss rate on the Ares V wide topped rocket so you have basis on a large scale.
  12. Amazing! I've always wanted to go to space! Looking for volunteers ?
  13. I don't think I'm qualified to test it. I use around 11 GB of my 16 all the time. I rarely restart too.
  14. That makes one side longer than Eve's moon! Cool, really puts the KSP universe into perspective!
  15. ~90 ~40 0 Those are from my LP world. These are my actual world. ~300 ~100 0 And my messing around world ~1200 ~3 0
  16. Tripropellant sounds crazy, probably very few things that can do it... But has anyone ever found a way to make quadpropellant? Very impractical but why not? Is there any mix that would even benefit from it?
  17. If you are into electronics you could try to make something to record flight data, not only good for a science fair but useful after too. Arduino nano would be a good place to start. A 2 stage rocket sounds cool too.
  18. What is your CPU clocked at? Stock would be ok but if it's OC'd then it would help because KSP is single core.
  19. I thought osmium was the most dense stable element? I like Lithium the most.
  20. I am for the ground/station on Minmus too. I can't wait to leave LKO! Who gets to plant the flag? It has to be stock or else it might break saves.
  21. As far as I know diesel is as widespread in the us as here in Canada. Every gas station has it and it's usually 10-20 cents cheaper than gas. I have no idea why they used gas. I think the general idea here is gas burns cleaner but as far as I know there isn't much of a difference.
  22. My section! NOOOOOO! It was so close to living too! If the probe and engines stayed on you could have blown the rest up with the orange tanks!
  23. That's the thing, it makes WAY more money than whole phones. Sure you can sell a whole phone. But what about cases? Most people I know have more than one case. A girl in my class has 50 she thinks! at 10$ a case that's 500$ a customer, just as good as low level Iphones. It's the same with the blocks. Who says people will have 1 block for everything? People will buy hundreds each! at an average of 15 a block that's a minimum of 1500$ a person. I will for sure have tons of blocks mostly batteries and CPU blocks (Imagine if you could do dual socket and a small battery so you just keep it plugged in!) I'm for sure going to spend way more than 1500$ on this if it supports IOS. The possibilities are endless! What about 2 cameras for 3d? Or a replacement for the screen to make it bigger? Then all the accessories for the blocks like cases and packs. If this works it will make TONS of money. By the time apple knocks it off it will be too late!
  24. We had a discussion about this today in math. My teacher brought something up about money or spacecraft water recycling systems and we got to Mars One. He kept saying how they were going to fund it and such. I waited for a while with my hand up when he got to me I explained the challenges of merely getting to orbit. Then how your cancer risk increases every year. After I was done I said it would have been better to give attention to the 2030-something manned Phobos landing that was in planning by some NATIONAL space agency a few years back. Then he want up to the board and wrote dreamers and under it IMAGINATION! Then he explained how if everyone was a skeptic like me we wouldn't go to the Moon. Then I said how it is literally financially impossible to accumulate enough viewers by 2021 to fund a Mars mission. I think they think rockets are cheap.
  25. I think the problem with small diameter rings is the Coriolis effect. I don't know what problems it creates but I think it makes something happen in your bodily fluids.
