Elcano Challenge: The fastest ride via Crystal Canyon
gilflo replied to gilflo's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
CHALLENGE PART 3: SOUTH PASS LAND'S RIDE Position à D255 3:56 Gliding Cheetah is out of Crystal Canyon, on top of the cliff ready for the ride across the south pass land Kinsey made a mistake and select W7 in its Waypoint manager, instead of W8, so he must head southwest, but there's a lake on the track and he decides heading south to to leave the lake on his right side. land is pretty flat and he doesn't need more than 1/3 of engine power and is throttle down many times, leaving gliding Cheetah "freewheel", taking care not take a speed greater than 90m/s Sometimes gliding Cheetah jumps on rough terrain and and control via elevon can be very unsure... After 25mns ride, Kimsey stops to plant a flag: It's 4:22 A beautiful jump 4 mins later are he is approaching the coast Last climb before the shoreline, very near now Kimsey Stops at 4:30 after 35mns ride. He is west of W8, and by heading SW he runs a little bit longer ride to this point than to W8, but he is nearer from W7 and he found a good place to enter the sea He plants one of its last flag before Kerbin. Fuel is still 35% and it's possible to make it to W6 or W5, but then it will be night and calling the Vulture tanker to land at night is to risky, so he decides to wait here for a refueling End of Part 3: Elapsed time since Kerbin departure 3:46 -

Hello I learnt from my last aborted mission that the big Catamaran I built was able to reach in one ride on the sea 2000kms within 4H with 10% fuel left. So i decided to break my last record in 4days 42mns. The goal is to take less than half time. PRESENTATION AND PREPARATION The pilot and his machine: Kimsey Kerman and The "Gliding Cheetah" 159T Catamaran driven by 2 big KE-90 "Dudley" Jet engines that gives around 125000 DV and allow a speed over 100m/s in the sea. The assistance, with the Vulture Tanker and its 2 pilots, Nested and Lansy Kerman, and 2 engineers, Lula and Billy Kerman. The tanker is driven by 2 Big J-61 "Starwaster" advanced Ramjet engines that allow very high altitude flights. It holds 37903L of fuel. The catamaran needs 22000L. The ride chart To be able to break the record, we must cross the south land pass during day and the best way to do it is to reach the pass, which begins at waypoint W9 at day rise. I observed that the day rise here around 3:00 UTC So we need to begin the ride from Kerbin, in the night around 0:30 and go east. We will use Scansat Radar to navigate in the sea through our waypoints X2 and X1 then W9. Somewhere between W8 and W4, we will stop and send the Vulture Tanker to Refuel the gliding Cheetah. If we can make W4, only 1 refuel will be needed as we reach this point in one go with 10% left during our aborted last try. We send an automatic flight on Vulture Tanker to take films and photos from the pass to get the most accurate coordinates forW9 and W8 which are our out and in waypoint from sea, to be sure the slope is ok to get ashore. The vulture Tanker will cruise at 24kms and 1300-1400m/s. Hand piloting at this altitude is very tricky, you are flying on a spin, so I use pilot assistant or Atmospheric Autopilot or both to help. At W9 point we discovered an awesome canyon with crystal waters and we explored it to see if we can take advantage to ride the catamaran in the river before going ashore.... It looks like there some land passages in the canyon, but i am sure we can use it and we could go ashore here, there's a small beach and I think the slope can be climb, the catamaran being very powerful on land. Then we went to the other side towards W8 to find a passage not to steep to go to sea We find it and set the coordinates to W8 waypoint Return home, mission completed

Mission aborted, the tanker is not operational....bad screens to see the travel time.... starting again soon, via East during night to cross the land passage a day rise, before a refueling in the south sea, the goal being to be as fast as possible for the circumnavigation

[1.8.0-1.12.5] AtmosphereAutopilot 1.6.1
gilflo replied to Boris-Barboris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
OK, made clean install, just Squad folder, AA folder and module manager and built a simple craft..., running on MacOS 10.11.6 On launch same results, only AA 1.5.6 will appear https://www.dropbox.com/s/55vin17va42bjv4/KSP - AA1.5.6 simple.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/wl5fb01z02acepp/KSP - AA1.5.7 simple.pdf?dl=0 I noticed that on the 1.5.7 version the AA version file is not included in the AA Folder, as it is included in the 1.5.6 version, don't know if it's a issue.... -

I'll try a simple a install. But with only module manager, will AA icon appear when I launch an aircraft, or do I need the Toolbar menu folder? -

gilflo replied to Boris-Barboris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Well, my airplane was not stable... For a reason I don't understand, as I discard a lot of mods from my game data folder, Version 1.5.7 does ont appear in toolbar, but version 1.5.6 does. I tried on a light game data folder with only Squad folder, AtmosphericAutopilot 1.5.7 folder and Toolbar folder and i got the dame result.... -

gilflo replied to Boris-Barboris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Since i re installed the 1.5.7 version, i noticed on all my flights with FBW on default settings the following: When I set moderation ON it becomes impossible to keep level flight after take off, all aircrafts are nosing down. When moderation is OFF, it's better, up to a faster speed, then after 1 or 2 turns, they nose down too even with stick full back. Yaw indicator needle is like windshield wiper in line flight and even with "snap wing to level" set to 8°, the aircraft roll from left to right Pitch and roll indicator needle act similarly.....like windshield wiper I did not have those problem before... -

Very good job, you didn't even need vernors to control Eve atmospheric descent...... Well done!!! Welcome to Eve lander club, I guess we are not so many to achieve Eve landing under 1000m and take off to orbit!!

Hello guys Here is my Elcano challenge via ocean and south land pass on a big Catamaran. There is no ISRU, the catamaran will be refill by air, by means of my Supertanker landing at waypoint 4 for refueling. Here is the map with the waypoints, the goal being to achieve the tour as fast as possible. I should 2 refueling, no more..... The catamaran is powered by 2 Turbo jet engines KE-90 "Dudley" from Mark IV system. It gives a 0.49 TWR and around 126000DV. Design with MK2 tank ahead of the engines gives a better top speed on water than cylinder tanks...don't know why. Also the 6 wheels gears, despite bouncing on ground on launching, gives 20m/s more on maxi water speed than the 4 wheels gears....Another mystery, all gears being up inside the hull when navigating..!!! Launch Entering water Turning to Waypoint W1. We are going west to keep day as long as possible. The catamaran is perfectly balanced on pitch axis and can support 4 time warp a full speed Leaving cost at maxi speed around 110m/s or 220kts Waypoint 1 reached at 195 kms Waypoint 2 Waypoint 3: 1333km in 2H45 After more than 3H we see a small island on the left side view from cockpit Reaching Waypoint 4: 1991 kms in 4H4mns We are going to look for the shore. Still 30mn fuel Here is the coastline Landing out of water First stop for refuel, we will wait the tanker here Planting the first flag

Working on the MK2 design and adding weight with MK2 tanks, I manage to get a lighter catamaran than the MK2-MK3 design with 125000DV and a 105m/s speed on water. I will take this one for the challenge, 2 stops for refueling should be enough to complete the tour. The more dangerous part is the land trip. The catamaran is now very well balanced on water..... Building my waypoint now before launching Here is the map and I begin the mission

Hello I am doing again the Elcano maritime challenge over keratin with a new catamaran. This one will not have infinite range like my previous one. I will use the south way and south pass and the catamaran will be refueled by a tanker aircraft. Just to see how strange are the game physic, here are 3 designs i tried and the one i was thinking the fastest in water is not the lighter one with the most fluently design....All can be warped 4 times when navigating This one MK2 to MK3 design get 4 wheels on the rear and cylindric tank in front of each engines: max speed is 76m/s The purpose was to set an ISRU, drillers and Ore tank in the MK3 hold.....to refuel Same design with 6 wheels and mk2 style tank in front of engine and speed is nearly 100m/s !!! Why???? But 6 wheels make it bounce on the runway on launch and with 4 wheels it won't bounce...don't try to understand... You could think this lighter MK2 design is faster than the previous one with its MK2 to MK3 design as TWR is 1.05!! Here no ISRU as I will refuel with a tanker aircraft... big problem of balance with pitch axis on water as i get much less pitch problem with the biggest design.... with no pitch problem in water, l I can't go beyond 80m/s!!! This is the winner: MK2 tank in front of Dudley turbojet engine, 6 rear wheels bouncing on the runway when laughed, MK3 hold with a jumbo rockomax tank inside... and speed is 100m/s on water, 110m/s when half tank...with possibility to warp 4 times....and it gets more than 120000DV....TWR 0.41 Water designing is really a mystery!!!
