  1. i have kerbinside, raster prop monitor, b9 aerospace, FAR, and various other mods to make the game feel more like a simulator rather than just a game but im missing one thing, i need some sort of mod that adds maybe some ai air traffic, and you can talk to tower control or something along those lines to make the game feel more alive, anyone know one?
  2. incredible, just incredible, i always felt that iva needed to be more complex than it is, cant wait to play around with this later today
  3. i was watching one of scott manleys interstellar quest videos the other day and i heard him mention something about having ils landings in the game from command pod view. then he said something about how he knew there were mods out there that allowed such a thing. so my question is where can i find this flight instruments mod, i want to pair it with the b9 aerospace and mk2 interiors to get full instrument panels in my aircraft (attitude indicator, gps navigation, bearing indicator, light switches, engine ignition switches, fuel mix controllers, etc etc), if theres no such thing, someone make it please. -thanks
  4. im afraid karbonite is not what im looking for, karbonite adds a resource which is used to fuel spacecraft, i want resources which would be used to construct building materials, like kerbal attachment system but you can mine materials and construct them to put into the containers on the move
  5. yo, the planet verviedi, does it actually have verviedian(or whatever the hell theyre called) ruins on the surface?
  6. which would in turn mean that when the light speed vessel slows down and checks the date, they should find that they are at least 200+ years older than anyone on earth and likely either they have been forgotten or something better than their vessel has been developed, which is another challenge of interstellar flight in itself.
  7. Hey are you that guy that used to be a developer? The guy who made the really cool kerbal system replacer mod?
  8. well awesome then, i like my vab the way it is now, i feel like ksp needs to try and ditch the sort of objective based gameplay for now and focus more on fixing bugs and the sandbox elements of the game (for one adding those new planets we were told about way back when)
  9. am i missing something here?. last time i checked ksp was definitely not a farming sim, unless its some sort of scenery, like whats going on with kerbinside, and that would be totally boss. other than that i dont think barns go well with the large controlled explosions and not so controlled explosions of ksp
  10. we need not to focus on the cost of such missions, or how much we will gain, we need to do it because of human curiosity, because of our desire to explore the universe around us. sure it will be costly but the reward is that our civilization gets to survive for longer, discover more, evolve further, advance our technologies even more, think of how much were going to learn in the process of constructing such a craft. the 2 gifts you gain from creating such a mission are: the gift of knowledge which is not something that should be taken for granted, and the reward of knowing we did that, we were able to ensure our races survival for billions of years more than we could have ever if we stayed inside our system. plus think of the sights you would see when you get there.
  11. i feel like we should be taking more a fusion engine approach, seeing as we get more bang for our buck, but i think what people have neglected to mention in this post is the effects of traveling at interstellar velocities on the human body, as well as the risk of crashing into something as simple as a hydrogen atom. i think the biggest reason were holding back on interstellar travel is because we have to find a way around these issues. also there's that annoying twin paradox thing we have to get over, not to mention the various time dilation effects. im thinking magnetic fields might help a little bit with some of the situations, but not all, we still have to worry about what happens to us once we reach those velocities.
  12. thats what i was saying too, if you can find a way to get over our biological flaws, suddenly interstellar travel becomes not so impossible
  13. my mind stayed intact upon reading that statement, seeing as i have seen what kind of fuel requirements a chemical rocket would need to get to lightspeed....
  14. we will start colonizing the universe when something that threatens our existence forces us to
  15. this is a fair point you make, i really hope we find some kind of breakthrough in fusion propulsion, it seems like our best bet right now seeing as we love it so much (nukes), that is if we dont end up destroying ourselves before we have a chance to try, which with current world events seems likely. i wouldnt call his point pessimistic i would call it realistic, hope is a good thing to have but you must be realistic in your hope. lets be honest here do you really think anyone is going to pay for a huge starship that will not benefit them in any way, that they will never see again? the answer is no the only reason we ever went to the moon was because the united states wanted to beat the soviets there during their 50 year dispute. whether you like it or not until we change the way we think, until we can get over the fact that not everything we do were going to get something out of, we wont be traveling the stars anytime soon. before we even consider an interstellar vessel a few things need to happen. for one we need to get over our greed and unwillingness to share our resources, we need to get over that maybe a few of us are different, and have different opinions than one another, we need to get over our hate for each other, our desire for power over one another, only then can we begin to consider building such a vessel. were already at a disadvantage considering how sparsely populated our local stellar neighborhood is, stars in our local cluster are extremely far apart, we cant put ourselves at more of a disadvantage by being selfish. however until we evolve more i fear that it might take a while for us to get over these traits, if we have time to do so.
  16. you know i knew one day that someone would find a use for all that fusion technology we have been seemingly needlessly producing for the past hundred years for nothing other than building nuclear bombs, which in my opinion is just a waste, the question remains though is: can it get us to another star?
  17. i dont like being pessimistic about it, i think that one day we will have a breakthrough in be it power production or propulsion systems, or even genetics for that matter. either that or we die a slow death on this planet, someone has to make the call eventually and i have hope that someone will
  18. space engineers is a game i find waaaaaayyy too unrealistic, its way too minecraftey for me, plus it does not fit the whole modular building scheme in games that i like, btw i have it in case you had not already guessed. perhaps ill just have to have a go at modding myself i suppose.
  19. im going to go look at a couple of other propulsion systems play around with the maths, then come back and see if i can find something reasonable just for the hell of it, also another question i have is, suppose we invent a cryo chamber or some sort of similar age halting technology, would the VASIMR engine then become practical?
  20. fair enough, i guess i should have considered the rockets specific impulse before jumping to the conclusion that we may have just made an interstellar engine, chemical rockets are a failure, VASIMR is a complete failure, i sometimes wonder what we have left to turn to
  21. so i know that the VASIMR engine is being considered as a method of propulsion for taking humans to mars in the near future, however my question is does the vasimr engine have any potential use for an interstellar mission in reasonable time, i have seen them thinking about the use of ion drives and plasma rockets aside from this one so it cant be that far off
