Tried to play again. Was building plane in hangar... CTD
-
Join the club... worse, I don't even get a crash log, it just straight crashes to desktop. I don't think I've had a Unity "Oops, the game crashed" type CTD since 1.1.0 The game will run flawlessly stock, but if I wanted to play stock I wouldn't need 64 bit 1.1 now would I? I may have to uninstall KSP, and come back after the next update, hopefully with fewer bugs and more stability.
-
Playing stock, I've had no issues with 1.1.2, none whatsoever, Even when adding mods, the game has been quite stable. It was not until I started adding in big, complex, parts mods, like Interstellar, and BlueDog, that the random VAB crashes started occurring. I think it has to do with the architecture of Unity in 64 bit..I don't think there is much Squad can do about it, unfortunately.

[1.0.2] B9 Aerospace | Procedural Parts 0.40 | Updated 09.06.15
Bloodbunny replied to bac9's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Why is CKAN still saying this is for 1.0.5? It seems CKAN is getting less reliable these days, even ferram4 has withdrawn support for it. -
Hmm, I tried replicating the VAB crash, but couldn't make it happen. You mentioned OSX, it might be limited to that OS.
-
I've put 1.1.2 though its paces, and haven't had any crashes so far. Bear in mind, this is with a stock install, mods change the ballgame completely. Now that the game is stable, a few lingering issues remain.. the fixed landing gear remain completely broken, for instance.
-
I hate to say this, I really do... I've loved this game for the better part of 3 years; enough to have sunk 2940 hours into it, enough to dual boot an entire new OS for it, so it hurts to say but here it is: 1.1 has so far been the most disappointing update to KSP that I have yet seen. I waited and wished for 3 years for KSP to finally make the jump to 64 bit, so we could at last be rid of OOM errors, and really open up the mod community. Back in 2014, the 64 bit workaround was discovered, and I tried and tried to get it to work properly, but the random CTDs in the VAB killed it.. fast forward to 2016 and 1.1, and the same issue remains. 1.1 is about as stable as a house of cards on the wooden raft on a lake on the San Andreas fault... And of the absolute WORST place to have a CTD problem...the VAB. I could sort of deal with crashes during flight, or transition, but the VAB is where I get (or could get) into my creative zone, and lose myself for hours designing, tweaking, and testing. Now, I can't even put together a simple 4 stage rocket without crashing to desktop..there is always the fear that if I click the wrong part, and set it aside, or click in the parts list to put it away, that the game will crash..its like trying to paint a portrait, with a bag of cinder blocks suspended above you on fishing line...hard to get creative with that. The old versions had problems in that too many mods would crash the game, but at least you could use up to the limit without crashing. Now that 64 bit is here, you can use all the mods you want...for 5 minutes (if lucky, I've had VAB CTDs upon picking the very first part.)
-
Played with 1.1 for a bit; less crashes than before. Actually had a go at designing planes.. found out that landing gear are still hopelessly borked. Crashed in VAB some more, giving up for a bit longer. I can't wait until this game is stable again. I rather miss the 0.18-0.19 days when I could run the game all night with nary a crash.
-
I'm crashing in the VAB as well. It seems to be completely at random. I do have a lot of mods, but they are all through CKAN and 1.1 compatible. What's weird is that it didn't create a crash file, it was just a simple Win7 "Program has stopped working" crash, as opposed to a "Oops, the game crashed" Unity dialog box. Not running it through CKAN either; not sure why it is set to launch 32 bit KSP. I'm really tired of all the crashes and instability; it's what drove me away from the game for a long time in the first place. I can deal with crashes that have a specific cause, but when it is at complete random, the game is simply not enjoyable because you always have the fear of a crash wiping out what you have done.
-
Kinda true, but kinda not... I can't really play without FAR, P-Wings,P-Fairings, Kerbal Engineer, and MechJeb. FASA and Firespitter have been among my must have mods as well. If you like your KSP purty (like me), you need Texture Replacer, EVE, and Distant Objects. Now mods like KW and Novapunch aren't really must have anymore, but are still nice to have.
-
Installed 1.1, installed about 20 of the most essential mods (FAR, EVE, IR, KIS, MJ, etc), got random "Oops, the game crashed" in VAB, uninstalled. I'll give it the customary 2 weeks so things can get settled. Way too many derps remain.

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Bloodbunny replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Well, seeing as how FAR's voxel calculations are MUCH more involved than stock "aerodynamics," I'd say its fairly par for the course. As an aside, big time thanks to Ferram4 for making KSP the game it is. I, for one, can hardly bear to play without FAR.- 14,073 replies

Two weeks has been my experience, in general. Of course, some mods will take longer, a few are updated much sooner, and some, won't be updated at all. But overall, it takes about two weeks before you can play the game pretty much as you did in the previous version.

Can you add support for http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79542-1-0-4-SXT-Lack-s-Stock-Extension-I-saw-seaplanes-on-the-seashore-SXT-22-3-10SEP15-KSC-v3? Great mod, but would benefit from this greatly.

The Linux Thread!
Bloodbunny replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It doesn't seem to affect KSP at all, as its ginning right along in 64 bit as fast as I set the FPS. Looks like I'm back in business with KSP RUNTIME=0 doesn't help, but the error doesn't seem to affect Steam or KSP noticeably so I can live with it until Valve or Ubuntu makes a fix. -

Bloodbunny replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Ok, I tried the stuff suggested, then did a reboot. Steam is now working; I then started KSP and tried a test launch.. I got 60 FPS the entire time, with an odd stutter every few seconds if I panned the camera a lot. When Steam started up; I got the message "OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems" When Steam was started via terminal; this is the output: mister@misters-pc:~$ steam Running Steam on ubuntu 14.04 64-bit STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1440016726) libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1440016726) Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar" Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "unity-gtk-module" Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1440016726) Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 70: non-double matrix element Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 70: non-double matrix element Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 78: saw unknown, expected number libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast Error: OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems. Bloodbunny replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Thanks for posting some real help. I ran the driver check and got: direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation Further I ran glxgears and have a steady 60 FPS. The installed driver is 346.96, which is what I chose from the driver manager. It must have something to do with Steam needing 32 bit code in there somewhere, but I am admittedly too much a noob to know how to go about doing that. -
The Linux Thread!
Bloodbunny replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It doesn't matter which driver I attempt to use. The only one that Steam seems to "see" is the garbage Nouveau one. Everything else gives the same error. Linux is a clunky mess IMO. It isn't hard to see why most people wouldn't use it. -
The Linux Thread!
Bloodbunny replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
So I finally bit the bullet and decided to dual boot; waiting for 1.1, or playing 32 bit just weren't viable. Anyhoo, installing Ubuntu in dual boot was easy; had a few issues installing Steam but did it without too much hassle. I even got KSP up and running on 64 bit, but my troubles started there... the default Nouveau drivers for my GeForce 760 are garbage... FPS dipping into the teens when I looked at Kerbin with a 4 part stock rocket...unplayable. So I check and find that those drivers are indeed crap; so I install 355.11 open source and reboot. Now Steam won't start at all, and spits this annoying message at me when I try to start it via terminal. Running Steam on ubuntu 14.04 64-bit STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1440016726) libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast About to pull my hair out over this.. any ideas? -

This.. not sure what the issue is here, but I have the same problem. -
[1.0.5][WIP]FantomWorks 0.3.3 KAX+ Part Pack
Bloodbunny replied to FreddyPhantom's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
While on the subject of cockpits, may I suggest one? -
This release seems to cause a HUGE spike in memory use, inevitably causing OOM crashes after a few minutes at high warp. Not sure what to make of it, but it definitely points to being RT related.

Awesome! One of the oldest mods continues to thrive in 1.0. This has been a must have mod for me since it was first released. TY
