Those two things may have been related. I agree that a demo would be nice. KSP is one of those games that you can get a very poor indication of what it's about by watching videos.

KSP Challenge: Cheap shuttle to Minmus
Superfluous J replied to qwe9000's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well.. -
You've been hearing people say they're worried about it. That's not a rumor, that's people being worried about something.

KSP Challenge: Cheap shuttle to Minmus
Superfluous J replied to qwe9000's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Seems the use of the word shuttle is causing confusion. There are far more shuttles than the US Space Shuttle Program's winged bricks. For $5000 I can only assume this shuttle is supposed to be just any craft you can build. -
Low-Tech to the Mun Challenge
Superfluous J replied to FuzzyHead's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I gave up trying for 89. The best I could do was land on Mun without even enough fuel to get back to orbit. As the only upgrade that will help costs the same as just leaving Jeb there, that puts my own personal high score at 79, not considering the possibility of not unlocking one tech node and getting 80. As 80's already been achieved, I've sadly lost the gumption to go through with the work to be late to a tie. -
Reaction wheels and general relativity
Superfluous J replied to k00b's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I know the camera moves to track the COM. Never tried it with 2 ships, though, so it could be that the ship stays in the same spot while the COM moves. Time for SCIENCE! EDIT: SCIENCE achieved. Yes this bug is still there. The camera moves (which is why I thought it was doing it correctly) but the ship does not. -
Are you sure they didn't change it to 0118 999 881 999 119 725 3?

I just begin to the game
Superfluous J replied to Limonadd's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
First off, as I didn't see anybody saying this yet, you are doing AMAZINGLY well for a newer player. I didn't have a successful (as in land-and-return) interplanetary mission until I'd had the game for several months. It was a year before I'd been everywhere. You've had the game for 3 days and you're itching for more to do after Duna As to where to go after Duna, I'd also suggest Eve. More specifically Gilly. It's like a Micro-Minmus orbiting Eve and if you can land there you should be able to navigate to anywhere. After that I'd send one mission each to Dres, Eeloo, and Moho just to say you did them and then do what many of the rest of us do, which is spend the next several years futzing around Jool -
KSP Engineer Redux acting funny

"Needed" is a strong term. If you just install RSS you will have a LOT of trouble getting to space. Stock KSP rocket are really heavy "dry" and have poor thrust and ISP. They make it to space so easily in spite of this because Kerbin is so small normally, but when you multiply all the bodies by 10, those rockets that are fairly well balanced for Kerbin are woefully underpowered. Realism Overhaul fixes this, but it is not the only mod that does so. Many prefer SMURFF instead and I'm sure there are others. If I were to go that way, I'd personally try SMURFF as I like not having to worry about all the different things you have to worry about in RO. Others disagree with me on that, but that's why modding is so awesome -
Reaction wheels and general relativity
Superfluous J replied to k00b's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I didn't know it existed in the first place. I've never experienced it though I've not tested for it. From my observations both transferring fuel and rotating the ship keep the center of mass as stationary as can be expected. As in, I've never observed a change in my orbit due to either. Kerbals do not have mass inside ships. That bug still exists. But it doesn't cause any weird ship movement issues that I know of. -
Fair. It can be equal parts boring and frustrating. Would you believe it if you read about it here after the game came out?

Reaction wheels and general relativity
Superfluous J replied to k00b's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This does not work. Every action you do that does not eject mass moves you around the center of mass. That includes both rotating and pumping fuel around. -
Well you can watch others play it

It's been a long time since I used KER but aren't you in vacuum mode in the VAB? I can't tell what you're using there but if it's a Terrier they hate atmosphere. Also note that KSP thinks you have far less dV than KER, making me further think that KER is in vacuum mode. -
Using Gravity cheat to enjoy RSS instead if RO?

The Betas tab only goes to 1.7.2, because 1.7.3 is the released version. Just stop using the betas -
There are multiple challenges involving not upgrading the VAB or launchpad and getting to Mun and further. I've personally gone to both Mun and Minmus under 30 parts and 18 tons. Others have gone to Duna and beyond. There's a current attempt on these very forums to perform a Jool 5 under that constraint. Hint: They're doing a LOT of launches.

Issues I have with the release date
Superfluous J replied to War Eagle 1's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
What's fair got to do with it? Is it fair we get shoveled at us bad ports of games made for your console first? If the port sucks take the lesson you learned with KSP and don't buy it. -
Reaction wheels and general relativity
Superfluous J replied to k00b's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Get yourself an office chair (or anything that will freely and easily spin around while you're on it) and an electric drill (or anything that can produce rotation). Sit in the chair. Aim the drill upwards and turn it on. Note you start rotating (if the drill is powerful enough to overcome friction). Stop the drill, note you stop rotating. Reverse the drill and turn it on again, and note you start rotating the other way. Have a friend hold the chair and start the drill. Then have them let go, and you won't be rotating. Then stop the drill, and note you start rotating. That's how reaction wheels work. except most ships have 3 of them (at least) -
Finding surface features
Superfluous J replied to Capt. Hunt's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In the contract it says where you're likely to find them. Make sure you're in one of those biomes. Wait until evening/morning so shadows are longer. Turn off ground scatter in the settings, so the only "scatter" on the ground will be those anomalies. And if that fails, do what @VoidSquid said. -
I didn't make this countertop but I mixed the epoxy and watched my girlfriend do all the real work.
