I'm not 100% sure but I thought in Frontier Elite you could technically fly from one star to another on conventional drives, though it would take a LOOOOOOOOOONG time even at full time warp. It was a long time ago that I played that game though so I may be misremembering.

Memory Leak question
Superfluous J replied to LadyAthena's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
There are 2 things you can do to minimize the leak. Nothing will stop it though: 1) Turn off ground scatter. Just turn it off completely. 2) Don't jump around a lot. Like VAB->ship->SPH->launch->revert->SPH->launch->revert->etc. This one is of course hard to do, as it's a core way to play the game. One more thing you could do, monitor your memory usage and close/restart the game when you get to about 3.5 gig. -
KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features
Superfluous J replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
They were supposed to be androgynous but - like most other things that are created by humans - they look far to distinctively male to be reasonably considered anything but male. So after much pressure from the community (myself very much included) and a lot of thought and work, they have added female Kerbals as well. -
I have found that left handed (or right handed, for those of you who drive on the left side of the road) exits make things SO much better on freeways. I'm starting to make all my freeways with room for exits in the median.

How to plot a course for Duna ?
Superfluous J replied to Khazar's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I reread your post and yeah, you're about right for what you're thinking. Note, though, that these (did I mention terribly) inefficient transfers have extremely tiny windows of opportunity and nailing Duna from Kerbin in one burn will be tough. If you target Duna you should be able to fiddle to at least get the encounter markers close to each other. Get them as close as you can, do the burn, and then do a mid-course correction to actually nail Duna. -
How to plot a course for Duna ?
Superfluous J replied to Khazar's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You should be going for the dark blue part of the plot, if you want an efficient transfer. This is so inefficient I find it hard to think in these terms 18 degrees to prograde means that if Kerbin is at 3:00 in your diagram (you have it at like 4:00. I like to rotate the map so Kerbin is at 3:00 for some reason) then your ship will be 18 degrees counter-clockwise from noon, or at about 12:40 or so. Then you burn prograde (relative to your orbit around Kerbin) 3261 m/s and you should have a terribly inefficient transfer orbit to Duna. -
1.1.2 Magic Smoke Industries Infernal Robotics 2.0.2
Superfluous J replied to sirkut's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
SWEET! Just in time for me to not install any more mods because 1.0 is coming out I assume this will be updated pretty quick though and I'll be right there. -
I ended my current series, so I'm ready to start one when 1.0 comes out.

It's way too late to actually play but here's what I would have posted had I been here for the fun:

There are several problems with your analogy. "SuperMegaCorp" implies a large, established company with massive resources. Those are exactly the types of companies who do NOT do this. Early Access is a risk, not just for the player but for the company. If it fails, they fail. So really it'd be "Joe's Batteries" and Joe himself would be one of the 3 people working on it. In your example, buying the 1.5V battery does not give you free access to to the 120V battery when it is ready. Or at least it doesn't imply it. Also, in Early Access for your $20 you'd get the 1.5V battery, then a 9V when it's ready, and then a 50V when they nail that down, and finally the 120V. Frequently Early Access stuff is either better than what's available already (except buggy) or so different than everything out there that the fact that it's not complete is mitigate by its uniqueness. 1.5V batteries are pretty common. This'd be more like a self-recharging 1.5V battery for $20, but it takes a month to recharge and they want to make a 120V battery that self-recharge in 5 minutes. That all said, you have to take things on a case-by-case basis. I'll never buy EA from DoubleFine again, but Klei? You betcha.

Yes. Something happened on every day of the year. I used to do a "topic a day" podcast and the problem wasn't finding something to talk about, but deciding which one to pick.

I doubt that fairings can be anything but symmetric (And circular) around the fairing base. So no

The ROUND8 memorial thread - UPDATE: It's alive!
Superfluous J replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
...when the removed the Barn, changed the way professions and experience worked, and added aerodynamics, entry heat, and heat shields. Oh and also when they kept the ROUND-8. -
Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!
Superfluous J replied to HafCoJoe's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The person who uploaded it. I'm not an Imgur expert so I don't know much, but I see nothing that indicates that that picture was uploaded by Squad. Or anybody else, for that matter. Imgur U sukc. -
I'm still expecting the stock values to fall within this range.

I'm so hoping that this new picture means that shadows properly propagate through SOI changes. And that when there's a Loonar eclipse it actually DOES turn red.

[1.1.2] Kerbal Inventory System (KIS) 1.2.12
Superfluous J replied to KospY's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That's the first time I've seen someone think Engineers weren't meaningful. After you unlock probe cores with SAS, pilots are near useless. Scientists are never useful because experiment science is so dwarfed by contract science. Engineers start out useful (they can do things nothing else in the game can do) and most every mod that gives a bonus for specific professions gives those bonuses to Engineers. -
Memory Leak?
Superfluous J replied to SmashBrown's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Agreed. DeviantArt is a website. It is not deviant in the least but it is quite artistic. I can get lost there sometimes in a way similar to how I get lost in TVTropes sometimes. Also agreed, but the game IS in Beta and this HAS been reported as fixed. -
KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features
Superfluous J replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't think they're separate parts. I think they have a very tall texture and are using different parts of said texture. note the top "yellow" piece has evidence at its top of repeating the same pattern that the bottom pieces have. -
Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!
Superfluous J replied to HafCoJoe's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's really hard to tell. If you look at the line between the runway and the surrounding terrain, it *does* look like that line goes up and down with what would be the normal map. Which implies that perhaps it's not a normal map and is instead actual hilly terrain. However the KSC is so far away that it's hard to tell for sure. -
Whackjob KSP Youtube series? Gauging interest.
Superfluous J replied to Whackjob's topic in KSP Fan Works
Sadly not every thread can be on the main page. -
And if it can SSTO I'll be even happier

Someone did it with KAS winches before the Klaw was a thing. I have no pics though As for Mun bases, my 2 favorite spots for flat land are (as has been said) next to the Armstrong Memorial and (my personal fave) just south of the Mun arch on the next big crater over from the Memorial. You can't miss the arch, it's on the far Northern rim of that huge crater and the crater floor just to the South of it just on the equator is pretty flat.

In general? No. They are not. Specific games? Sh-yeah. KSP and Invisible Inc were 2 Early Access purchases I have been totally fine with making. Space Base? Not so much.

There's a "secret" countdown to "something" but the secret is that we're in day 8 and the something is the release of the game. Offer void if I'm wrong about either of those things.
