  1. Cheers for the input cantab. I plan for it to take more than a few users though. Im planning for 100+ users, and having slots for 100+ users as well. I didn't specify the router, because I know how much of a pain upload can be if its not fast. That is exactly why Im going to grab an upstream service once I have the server setup. Anyways, thanks for the input.
  2. So I am looking at purchasing my first server for several uses. The uses I intend it for are: - Game servers; Mainly minecraft, tekkit and the likes - Web server; and - a FTP server for around home The game and web servers would be publically accessible, and the website would be for the game servers. These are the specs I currently have for the server (NOTE these are not exact product specs, just rough guidelines): - 1x Intel Xenon 8 core 10 Thread 2.6Ghz Processor - 32GB RAM 1600Mhz ECC - Windows Server 2008 Standard Ed - 2TB Raw-Storage - 4x 500GB HDDs in a RAID 6 - 2 1GbE NICs linked into a single 2GbE link - Daily tape backup of game server data and web server databases. I can't remember how much this sort of thing costed, I vaguely remember it being around AUD$15K. So anybody with experience in servers: Is this a good configuration? Is it worth making the plunge into buying the server? Also note I want something as powerful as this so I can easily expand my game servers before needing to upgrade. I'm considering bringing up my RAM to 64 or 128GB so I can allocate a fair amount to the game servers. Cheers, all you server-savvy people!
  3. holy kerbal.... that is something. Great cargo plane there. Love it.
  4. You're a serious player when you DON'T use chutes for an atmospheric landing.
  5. RCS? I absolutely love it. Makes modular base building on Minmus a dream
  6. The polls about halfway through now, and it looks like most people are happy with the update, with around 40% liking the update very much.
  7. Um.. even if that's mm/dd/yyyy.... we haven't actually reached that date yet. So where are you? Are you still on Earth??
  8. That Ghz mark wasn't exact. It was roughly from what I could remember I've changed plans now anyways.
  9. Well, specific wishes are rendering, video recording at high res with a good fps (around 35-45) and also multitasking and program development/compilation. Specific enough wishes? EDIT: rendering meaning 3D modelling rendering
  10. this took off a lot better than i expected. Anyway, time to add my comment. Overall, the update was pretty good, although i would'nt say great. There are still some bugs, especially in ksp 64-bit, and the contracts and budgets system has a few holes and plenty work arounds to get (just about) unlimited funds. Those silly decimal points in the VAB for the rocket cost and the total funds not having decimal points... it really messes my mind sometimes.
  11. They should make it so that a minimum of .1 science points HAS to be received for it to be completed, so you cant continually redo the experiments.
  12. With the recent KSP .24 update, many good things have come, like the contracts system, budgets, a UI overhaul and a tech tree re-structure. And also the official KSP 64-bit. However, there are also bugs that people seem to be hitting on the 64 and 32 bit versions, and some people don't like everything that has happened with the .24 update. So I'm here to do a poll! Yes, a poll! Don't worry, I'm going to make it anonymous, so vote what you think. Did you like the KSP .24?
  13. It is not a good feeling when that happens, is it? :/ Until SQUAD decides to overhaul the current on-rails physics... thing, 2.5km will stay the longest distance anything can get away from you when in the atmosphere. At least it was only 60,000 funds. ToTHeMun
  14. No worries. Glad to help! Very sorry about your station, if you removed your mods. :/
  15. In any sort of recovery method, your actual craft cannot go past 2.5km below 22km, otherwise it too will be removed. Just be aware of that. The game treats debris and normal craft alike when removing "debris" from the atmosphere. So at this point in time (without mods - on a stock install), spending your time to watch the stages safely fall to the ground, is not really an easy thing to do in any sense, or thing really worth doing (especially if your actual craft ends up disappearing too). 16. If you delete the mod, the MOMENT you open the save, the WHOLE station and anything connected to it will be destroyed. The game will remove it completely. It will also tell you that its done that, it won't just do it out of nowhere. So yeah. Hope this helps! - ToTheMun EDIT: The rest of the save WILL load, as long as any other ships don't have the modded parts attached.
  17. Also note you can't fire anything using action groups... it doesn't count as completing the test because you are not STAGING it. I'm not going to repeat what the others said above, because it has been repeated plenty of times (Ninja'd! ), but what they are all saying is pretty much correct.
  18. It may be the case that OpenGL uses less RAM, but not all systems have or support OpenGL. Especially integrated systems with iGPUs, like the latest Intel (Ivy?) Sandy bridge CPUs that can actually be used to play most games now. Not all graphics cards support OpenGL too. AND I also know that on some games, using OpenGL instead of DirectX (or Direct3D) actually REDUCES framerate. I know that this is the case with several games I own, with the most notorious being Minecraft. All-in-all, although OpenGL may reduce your RAM footprint, it is not supported on all system, and MAY reduce framerate. I'm not saying it will with KSP, but it MIGHT. I haven't done any testing, so I can't prove it. Anyway, this is all I have to say about this. Not meant to be mean or anything, just pointing out some oversights. ToTheMun NOTE: I have not read any posts past the OPs, so sorry if someone has already said this.
  19. In your steam library, click on "add a game to your steam library" then click "add a non-steam game". Locate the 64 bit .exe, and select that. The 64bit exe will be added to your library and you will also have your steam overlay added in. Hope this helps! ToTheMun
  20. Why is this thread NOT stickied yet? I mean, seriously. I continued testing of the modules of my minmus base. Have a look at my company, you can see more about it there. Its actually going surprisingly well.
  21. Just want to say that i have never done either quicksave/load or revert to VAB/SPH/Launch during a flight. Nothing ever goes wrong . Well, i have reverted before, but only in sandbox.
  22. GregoxMun, completely unrelated, but I just wanted to say that there is no more hype train for you to drive now.
