Question about Relay Antennas
steuben replied to Enterprise0709's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It sounds like the key is line of site. You'll need a relay or series of relays that will get your signal back back to line of site with KSC. But a pic of your tacking station would help nail it down for sure. -
Uncontrolled flipping in space

A blind suggestion: Assuming you're using a probe core as the control point, the core is facing the right way? -
A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
steuben replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
AHeroReborn, I banged hard against the main character. He's ranking pretty high on my trusty Fluke brand Mary-Sue-o-Meter. You may want to run him through this check list http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm, and review this article Common Mary Sue Traits. Though that is a detail take on Werhner I don't think I've seen before. -
Aha! So we've established the point is sound in principle, now we're just haggling over the numbers.

Provide a method to allow us to purchase an upgrade to our store account to receive the "lifetime of DLC upgrades". Points in no particular order: 1.a. This isn't about fairness. But, I understand and accept the decision that was made. Reward those who rolled the dice on the game early on. Early adopters, marketplace, and all that. 1.b. I don't like where the line was drawn. So I can either gripe pointlessly about it, or I can propose what might be a reasonable solution for both sides. As they say, you can be part of the solution or you can be part of the precipitate. 2.a. "Gold Deluxe Edition, with Crew Commentary" Syndrome. Why buy the DLC as it comes out, when the GDE with CC will be coming out SoonTM? The game and all the DLC on one USB, 3 DVDs, in a shiny gold box. And usually cheaper than buying each separately. 2.b. Time value of money. Basically it means, 20$ today is worth more than 20$ tomorrow, and 30$ today is worth more than 20$ tomorrow and 20$ next month. That same 30$ is still worth more than 20$ tomorrow, 20$ next month, and 20$ next year. Wikipedia has an introductory article on the concept. 2.c. The cost of the upgrade should not be constant. It should increase as the DLCs are released. 2.d. Profit! No missing steps plan here. Accounting... financials... SOx... Oh! Look, Mortimer. He'll be able to explain it. 3. Not a good reason, but I'm cheap and lazy. That being said I will buy content if it looks like it will be worth it. I just don't want to choose if it will be worth it, and too cheap to risk my money on it not being worth it. 4. [EXPUNGED] I wasn't quickly finding this or a similar suggestion in the recent history. But feel free to point me in the direction if there is one.

Fram Rate drop on a powerful PC..

What's the part count on your bird? -
Not sure if I'll pay for the/each dlc... But would pay to upgrade my account to the early adopter class.

At that height it sounds like it had a flyby of Mün which would have been enough to shot it out to solar orbit.

Preserve staging when merging
steuben replied to crekit's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Actually I think staging might be preserved. All the first stage of the assembly is being blended with the first stage of the actual craft, and so on. Prepending or Appending staging is closer to what you're thinking of. Tab by convention goes to the next user actionable element in a form. So it will go to submit rather than action submit. -
That's what I figured. Though I may keep with the two hop approach. It is easier to rendezvous with my research stations that way. The timing of the launch would have to be tighter than my skills allow to get it close to the right inclination on launch. Basically you'd have to have to launch when your initial AP, before circularization will be at or near the nodes, correct?
-
Is it better to introduce some to most of the inclination for an orbit at launch or to lunch near enough to 0 and then burn to right inclination out near Minmus?
-
Moving mine over while I'm thinking about it. A bit of pulp sci-fi to get the literary crowd to pick up the magazine.

Kegeta: Under 300! Kegeta crushes the word counter. Kappa: Under 300? That's impossible! It must be malfunctioning. (V.O.) We go through so many word counters. a bit fiction of so that while folks who buy the mag claim they are buying it for the articles have something interesting to read. Channeling the old serial fiction ghosts... maybe not as well as I would like but:

Given the amount of chatter the thread will generate perhaps it would be better to either break-out the submissions to a different thread or pm the submissions to <insert receiver here> with the subject "kerb-mag contest". Just to keep them from getting lost. I wonder if a successful entry would count as being formally published?

not quite silly procedural question. do the published articles become property of KSP parent corp under standard work for hire or someting else? i'm cool with it either way if something i post makes it. but i've worked with people who have been really touchy about such things.

Ejected Fuel and Engine Debris reported as a Relay
steuben replied to Wader8's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
/me points to the antennas that's what it's picking up. since it sees the antennas it thinks "oh, a relay." regardless of controllability or available power. -
the announcement is that on Apr 1 a big change will be coming. the change will be to the pay structure. all launches will be under a micropayment structure, all parts will be a macropayment structure, and facilities will be a simple payment structure... and cats... lots and lots of nyan-cats and maybe a pony.
-
use both. They are not in opposition to each other, they complement each other. use sandbox to futz about and learn the parts, be creative, make stuff go boom in spectacular ways use career to learn how to build rockets, planes, landers, stations.

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
steuben replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
My take on everybody met in the war. It's separate from the swan-verse. The problem is Gene talking the whole time. How can you do a character telling a story? -
Gene stood in front of the boardroom table. The gathered high ranking kerbals of the KSP watched as he picked up the one sheet of paper. “Telemetry reports the following: electrical nominal, fuels nominal, thermal nominal, solid consumables nominal, liquid consumables low. “ Gene paused. He knew what the next statements were. It made it real to see it written down on paper. “As of four hours ago, gas consumables depleted, life signs… none.” Four days later, Gene stood behind the podium of the large lecture hall. Behind him were two large pictures of Jedidiah and Valentina. In the front rows were family, followed by the politicians and dignitaries. The members of the program filled the rest of the hall. The press weren’t there. “You’ve heard about Jeb and Val. Their exploits, their skills, their kerbal-ish flaws.” Gene paused. “You all know the program was started to help us heal from the war. Jeb had earned the nickname ‘The Slippery Eel,’ Val ‘The Perfect Monster’ during their tours. I know during their time they served on the same front a few times. Perhaps it is fitting that the two top pilots of the KSP were good friends, and came from opposite sides. “They weren’t always though. Dicey and the Ice Queen did not get along. They would… vigorously debate each other’s opinions on many topics.” There was a general chuckle from the crowd. “But, things changed one day. “I don’t remember what it was about. It could have been over something minor, it could have been over who left the coffee pot empty, or it just could have been the accumulated friction between the two. “I got down to the offices to see Jeb and Val standing in the open space in the centre of the desks. “’I will slay the monsta!” Jeb said. “Val laughed. ‘You couldn’t then with a whole wing beside you. What makes you think you could do it now?’ “’I didn’t need a wing then, I don’t need one now. That tone you hear is the lock my foot has on your ass.’” “They had fought before. But, that time it was different. We could tell this time would end it one way or another. They stood staring at each other. I said afterwards I didn’t see who threw the first punch. I still stay that. Those of us in that room got to see what many had seen, and few survived. “The fight was an example of their styles; Jeb’s focused chaos against Val’s crisp perfection. The first few blows were tentative but deliberate, designed to figure each other out. “They paused. “They began. “I don’t think the blows were to kill. But, they certainly would have incapacitated if they were to hit. They were either blocked or dodged. There was no showboating, no fancy moves, just simple and direct. They moved around the room, over the desks and chairs. The contents went flying. It was a terrible and beautiful ballet. “As we watched they began to slow down. The blows began to connect. But, they had less power behind them. Soon they lost their form and elegance and became simple punches with no power at all. “Then it was just like in the movies. They each landed a punch and stopped. They saged to the floor unconscious. “When they both got out of the infirmary we all expected a repeat of that fight. But, they didn’t. They were cordial with other. Things improved from there. “It was our history writ small. Those two who fought each other so hard for so long, were able to work together for the benefit of kerbal-kind. Gene paused. “They have paid the price that so many have paid.” His voice caught. “They knew what their sacrifice would be when it came time.” It caught again. “We all know what it would be. What it would mean is what is important.” He voice quivered. “It would mean peace, hope, and a future.”

docking craft, and getting by poor little space walk-about kerbals back into their tin cans.

Maybe. Some mods hook into parts of ksp that didn't change much or at all between .0 to .2. Others did. Most will say on their lead post if they will or not. But if they haven't updated since .0 you can always try them to see.
