Why navy aviators consider them as better than pilots?
Stone Blue replied to Pawelk198604's topic in The Lounge
Regular runways are also 100 times LONGER, and usually 2 or 3 times wider... Hehehe.... Yeah?.... Just ASK one of them... Also, I dont know about the Russian Navy, but the US Navy pilots, I think, have a wider spectrum of mission architecture they need to know/perform... The US Navy pilots have to know/perform: Dogfighting Air-to-Air attacks Air-to-Ground attacks Close-in Ground attacks for troop suppport Bombing Electronic countermeasures ...and probably more stuff I cant think of right now... Basically Navy & USMC pilots do LOTS of stuff, where Air Force & Army air forces seem to be more specialized at what they do... -
@VITAS Sorry for slipping OT... 1) I like the black area at the top just as it is 2) the text for the "Top Mods", "New Mods", etc could be just a touch larger... Also, if those are clickable, maybe outline them, or tab them? 3) as to the text in the lower half... Gotta stay away from light blue... Need high contrast between text and background, WHATEVER the colors end up being... Also, being a laptop user, and even tho I am on, about the largest laptop screen (17.3"), I think the text needs to be just a couple sizes bigger... 4) I didnt mind the DARK blue color you had in the "SpaceDock" bar at the top... I know you are going to get ALL sorts of differing opinions on this... Just dont let yourself get frustrated with this... No matter what, not everyone will be happy with the layout...

There's Notepad++ that will at least check for dead-spaces and matched bracketing... I'm not even close to being a "coder", so I have no idea what else its capable of that may be useful as far as KSP modding goes...

I like the proposed layout.... The lower half of the current homepage DEFINATELY needs to be changed... The three huge blocks of alternating light blue, with white text, and then the white background at the bottom with light blue text, is just too hard one the eyes... Not contrasty enough...

While I agree with your sentiment, and I feel the best thing would be for ALL mod authors to make a forum release thread for ALL mods, I have been seeing an alarming trend, of more and more new mods just being thrown up on Curse, or SpaceDock (before that, it was even happening on KS), with absolutely NO forum thread, or ANY other place where the mod was hosted, or where people could come across it, or discuss it, or even get a basic idea of WHAT the mod was.... I think one reason (and I know this will bring out the mob with torches and pitchforks), is because of the rising popularity of CKAN... There are people (and dont tell me there arent), who think CKAN is the be-all end-all of finding and installing mods...So it seems like some new mod authors dont bother hosting, or even listing, mods, anywhere, but where they can get scraped into CKAN... So while I would LIKE to see EVERY mod have a forum release thread as the main focus for mod introduction, and on-going discussion, reviews, and such, it just doesnt seem to be happening, more & more... So if people are just going to throw mods up on SpaceDock, or Curse without a forum thread, if SpaceDOck does add those functions, then at least they might be encouraged to add something more about their mod THERE, and have a place where people could leave feedback, and actually get on-going support... I WILL say I believe ratings, and the social media stuff is worthless, and I find it annoying, and detracting from the main purpose of a website... I could care less about what everyone else thinks, or feels they have to "tweeter" or "insta-gossip" about... And ratings, I guess I'm one of those people who never seem to agree with, much less put any stock in, when forming an opinion of something... Again, I'm just playing devil's advocate, as I would really like to see everything on a forum release thread, and yeah, just have SD, Curse, Github as basic hosting mirrors... But it just doesnt seem to be happening with newer mods...

How to Update Mods
Stone Blue replied to Squatch123's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Before updating, its always a good practice to take a minute or two, and check the OP and the last few posts in the mod release thread for info... Usually mod devs will add in the OP whether a new version will break saves, or exact details on how to do the update if there is anything out of the ordinary... Sometimes they will only add a post at the end of the release thread... Thats why its best to check both ends of the mod thread -
What are the rough release dates for previous KSP versions?
Stone Blue replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yeah... I often wonder the same, and always remember playing 0.18... But I actually joined during 0.16 ... -
What are the rough release dates for previous KSP versions?
Stone Blue replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Wow.... For a simple table, and cut & paste, that was excruciating... ALL versions, with release dates and detailed changelogs can be found on the KSP Version Wiki -

[1.4] SpaceY Expanded, v1.5 (2018-04-02)
Stone Blue replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
@eberkain , well, actually, I just looked at THIS mod (SpaceY Expanded), and interestingly I see mixed textures... Most seem to be .dds, but there also seem to be quite a few specular .mbms still used... I dont know if thats why ATM might be giving the pink textures or not... What parts ARE you getting the pink on? Are they all ONLY from SpaceY? Have you looked thru your Player.log yet to see what might be going on? Thats pretty weird you're crashing with 16GB of RAM, and a GTX970... I'm running Lubuntu with the 64bit KSP, on a GT630M and only 6GB of RAM, HEAVILY modded, and havent had ANY loading crashes...EVER... (yet...knock on wood...lol) Not that this could really be connected, but are you sure you have a good, proprietary Nvidia driver?... I know the Nouveau drivers for Nvidia are crap, and can cause issues with KSP... ??? It took me a couple tries to select the right proprietary driver when I first installed Lubuntu, to replace the default Nouveau driver... (I think the Software Updater listed 4 or 5 different Nvidia drivers, besides the Nouveau...) -
[1.4] SpaceY Expanded, v1.5 (2018-04-02)
Stone Blue replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Are you SURE you need ATM? What mods are you using that are not .dds textured?... If only a couple or a few, with not too many total textures, AND the textures are not hard-coded into any .dlls, I would try using the DDS4KSP program to convert them all, then dump ATM... EDIT: You must have a lot of non-.dds textures, actually... Thats probably why you crash WITHOUT ATM... You're probably pushing your RAM limit... If you really DO need ATM, there are instructions, IIRC, in the ATM README on how to edit or make an ATM .cfg, where you tell ATM what folders to IGNORE... Those would be the mod folders giving you the pink textures... Should only be a couple lines, and very easy to do, even if you havent messed with .cfgs before... rbray did a good job on the instructions and examples... -
Linux install, worth it?
Stone Blue replied to Madscientist16180's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
@Madscientist16180 One caveat tho... What do you have for a GPU?... Seems there isnt much Linux support for AMD graphics... Intel & Nvidia: little to no problem... NOTE that Linux already forces OpenGL, as there is no DirectX in linux... Once you find a distro you want to try, download the .ISO of it, then use the Universal USB Installer by Pendrive, found Here to install your distro on the USB drive... Once its done, plug in the USB drive and reboot... Click "Try before installing..." on the menu that comes up... (I think thats what the option is called...)... That will run Linux off the drive, rather than installing it onto your computer... Once you get to the desktop, see if your distro has a "Software Updater" listed in the menu... Open that, go to the Drivers tab, and select a graphics driver...Then run the Updater... Hopefully you grabbed the correct driver, and there's no issues after that... Then go to your KSP folder, and dbl-click the KSP.x86_64 file... Execute it when it asks... Thats it! Oh, and generally you can safely copy your /GameData & /saves folders from a Windows install of KSP to your Linux KSP folder, and all your mods and saves SHOULD work exactly as in Windows... -
Linux install, worth it?
Stone Blue replied to Madscientist16180's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Yes... very worth it... I have a 4yr old laptop I run Linux on... It plays KSP better than on Windows 8.1... You dont even have to dualboot... You can run most distros right from a USB flashdrive, so you dont have to mess with dualboot or HDD partitions... Just make sure your BIOS will boot off the USB flashdrive before your HDD... You hardly need to know anything about Linux... Most Ubuntu desktops are VERY similar to a Windows 7 desktop... I use Lubuntu, but many people use Kubuntu or Mint... My Lubuntu install only uses @250MB of RAM at idle, vs 1.3GB in Windows 8.1... I have 6GB RAM, and I've had VERY few crashes (all due to mod bugs, NO memory crashes)... I've pushed KSP RAM usage to 5.1GB by itself... MUCH better than the 3.5~3.7GB for Windows... I've run between 100~120 plugin mods, and two or three of the BIG parts mods... Granted, I've been able to run more mods, but dont expect miracles (or even much difference) in actual PERFORMANCE... FPS seems to run about the same as on Windows... It will all depend on your hardware... Also, if you're on a laptop, using more RAM seems it will heat your computer up pretty good, so i suggest a cooler for laptops on Linux, if youre shooting for a heaviy modded install... -
While I totally appreciate and understand peoples' opinions on the situation with KerbalStuff, and I know no one will really read or heed this, but Holy Cow!!... Is there REALLY that much more than can be said that hasn't been said or posted already, and by now? Its getting to where most of the recent posts are just rehashes or duplicates of previous posts...

Bond Aerotech and Sundries [v0.4.3.1 31st March 2014]
Stone Blue replied to NoMrBond's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@NoMrBond Just wondering if you've given up development of this mod? Theres some pretty sweet parts here! If you are NOT planning on doing anything with this, anychance you would just re-release it as-is, but with an open license so maybe someone else could pick it up?... Seems a shame to let all these parts and hard work just disappear... -
Does the current release at least work in 1.0.5, since 1.0.5 introduced new intake behavior?
