  1. Ooo… I never thought about live editing of an active vessel. That would be interesting.
  2. So, people are suggesting lots of names for the new Orbital/ Space VAB that we see in the trailer, the one that launches Daedalus. I'm making this thread so that we can actually get a clear answer. Obviously it can't be called the VAB as one, there's no vertical in space and two, there's no building. I'm doing this to help Star Theory come up with a name for the Space Sation VAB. How this is going to work(rules): One suggestion per posts allowed. This is to make it easier to vote. You are allowed to post another name in another reply. Wait 5 minutes between posts so that your posts do not get merged if no one has replied after you. Voting for names will be done via the "Like this" button on posts. At the end of the week(friday) I will make a real poll with the top 10 answers. Duplicate posts will count towards the vote. Multiple answer posts, posts that give more than one name, will be ignored.
  3. lol, HAB... Anyway, Vacuum Assembly Building doesn't work.... because there is no building. And the fact that the only limitation on the size of the work space is the size of the Space Station Assembly Truss, that term is kind of misleading.
  4. Space Dock is my vote. Although, I wouldn't be opposed to it being called a dry dock. Star Trek calls it a dry dock and I believe Star Wars does as well. It's just easier phrase to remember and the term could be adopted to spaceships. In terms of space, the dry dock surrounds the spaceship and keeps it safe from orbital debris in my opinion. It could use deflector shields or regular shields or maybe even some weapon to disintegrate the material heading towards the space dock. Terms are adapted and changed all the time. Dry Dock may change in our future when we start building things in space.
  5. Well, we can do that in KSP 1 now, so they might bring it over to KSP 2.
  6. There's no mention of a terraforming system, but there are legs shown in the trailer and these might be procedurally generated to make the colony level itself out.
  7. Gather all the suggestions you can, make a poll, then the top 2 or 3 winners get suggested to Nate.
  8. It was really hard to make out some parts, but I persisted, also, yes, bring that term that @TBenz said to Star Theory. "Orbital Dry Dock." except maybe Space Dry Dock, since I'd imagine people will take their space stations out of orbit. XD
  9. Here's some information from @DasValdez interview with Nate Simpson. Keep in mind I'm paraphrasing some questions and answers. For full answers watch the interview on Twitch. Take aways (Opinions): Radiation concerns: I don't know how I feel about having to deal with fallout. This makes me think that a full fledged life support system will be in the game, which I honestly don't want. Hopefully it is an option that can be turned off. On the other hand, it would be interesting to accidently nuke a colony and then find that it's uninhabitable for the next few years or you have to do decontamination somehow. Autopilot/automation: Sounds like mechjeb, KOS, or some other form of automation will be in game. Likewise it could just be as simple as you have the option for the rocket to just launch by itself and then it either fails or succeeds. So like, you launch with auto-pilot and a screen pops up telling you a few stats: Aerodynamics: Unstable or Stable Rocket stability(Will it fall apart): Unstable or stable Fuel needed for Mission: Not enough, enough or plenty Chance of success: 0% to 100% Chance of failure: 0% to 100% Time to mission completion: [Years] [Months] [Days] [Minutes] [Seconds] Upon completion, you will find your payload at its destination upon mission complete, or you will at a random point receive a message telling you a random failure event has occurred. "You ran out of fuel." "A passing asteroid affected the rocket's course, sending it into the sun." "Someone at mission control hit the self destruct switch." Orbital VAB: An unlimited spaced VAB would be nice, but I feel that there will be a limit, namely, the size of the Space Station. He does mention the truss with robotic arms which builds the ship. So Length might be limited as well as Width, but only to the degree of the space station's Truss.
  10. @Vanamonde Please close the thread as the consensus is apparent. And no need for this thread to get off topic with people discussing what mods should and should not be in the game.
  11. I may be confusing mod fairings. When I talk about modular fairings, I meant like KW rocketry old style fairings or NovaPunch's fairings.
  12. Sorry, didn't think to put an option for as early as possible. The poll has been updated.
  13. So the whitelisted website idea, but with unlimited steam keys?
  14. We're not sure automation is even in the game. The only automation that we know of is that spacecraft can continually thrust while you are away. @Snark did an interview and that was one question that came up. Basically: Spaceship A heading to Solar System B will continue to thrust While Spaceship B is under your control flying to Duna to bring supplies to Duna Colony C.
  15. While I agree with this, I do feel that opening it up to everyone might be a little overwhelming to Star Theory. KSP is easily well over 2 to 5 million strong, listening to 5 million voices would be hard.
  16. I've seen talk about Early Access mentioned a time or two on the forum, and I was wondering how they would do it if they're release date is rumored to be March. Will they give us access in February? Or even March? And how would they go about distributing the Early Access? Would they just do it like any other Steam game and just allow you to buy it with the stereotypical warning about early access? Would it just be content creators? Would they setup a website and distribute a limited number of steam keys? What are your thoughts and opinions on KSP 2 and the idea of Early Access?
  17. I doubt Colonies will be self sufficient on their own. You will have to go out and gather the resources on your own I feel, but if I have 2 colonies, and I ignore colony A because I'm working on colony B for three years in game time, colony A shouldn't have any ill effects because of me neglecting them. Basically: Colonies won't grow without your direct help, but won't die without help.
  18. Collecting resources has been confirmed to be a big mechanic of Colonies, but they know people will make 25+ colonies since the game is so huge. You really want to spend your time making sure those 25+ colonies don't die? I don't. Life Support shouldn't be in the stock game at all in my honest opinion, but I know a lot of people like it, so either make it super simple or make it to where we can turn it off.
  19. IIRC correctly, they said it would be basic life support. No need to constantly worry about food, heat, or waste. KSP 1 never had Life Support, and it took Squad a long time to even put in reentry heating effects. With life support, I feel it would make KSP 2 unfun for a lot of people because now you're constantly micro-managing everything. I say leave life support to the modding community. If they do add life support, do the bare minimum. Make sure the spacecraft has power to run the oxygen and heaters. No food.
  20. I doubt to the extent of any of the really popular mods. If they do do life support, it will be very basic.
  21. Resources are going to play a big part, and so the system is getting an overhaul.
  22. Theres already a thread or two which contain all these.
