Insight on Mod Development Expectations
GoldForest replied to REDACT3D's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Can't really 'insight' about something we know nothing about. All we've gotten is KSP 2 will be 'more moddable' and possibly easier. That's it. Nothing has been talked about on the modding side of KSP 2, afaik anyway. We don't even know if "Gamedata" is still used or if they moved to a new system of loading parts. -
Discussion of Challenges for KSP 2.
GoldForest replied to GoldForest's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Well, these challenges are more slated for 1.0 rather than EA, but there's no reason they can't be done when the updates drop. Yeah, I was thinking the same. Going to need a giant interstellar ship. True, but the challenge isn't aimming. It's timing. You need a craft light enough to build up speed, but large enough to have the fuel. -
When we could buy KSP2 early access?
GoldForest replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
There are several threads that answer this, especially one on the announcement thread. KSP 2 will enter Early Access on February 24th, 2023, around 11 am cst, 12 pm est. (Give or take an hour or two) -
I realized a day or two ago that it was the 5th anniversary of Cassini's death plung into Saturn, so I decided to do a mission to Jool using Cassini and Huygen. Lots of images, so check out the full album here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet Note: The final image is not of a death dive. I left Cassini in a very low orbit. Around a 750 km circular orbit. ( I'm playing on 2.5x rescale, so the beginning of Jool's atmosphere is around 500 km, so yeah, it is quite low.) And yes I may have used infinite fuel to do all this...

So, I realized this year is the 5th anniversary of Cassini's death plung into Saturn. I decided to do a Cassini-Huygen mission to Jool. Note: The final image is NOT a death plung image. Cassini is just in a really low orbit around Jool. ~750 circular orbit. Lots of images, so check out the full album, here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

It will most likely be 11AM/12PM CST/EST. Usually is. Nice.

I know it's a little early to start talking about challenges, but I felt it would be a good idea to discuss them, so we have an assortment to pick from when KSP 2 EA hits, and the updates as well. I would also like to discuss how challenges for KSP 1 will have changed in KSP 2. KSP 1 challenge changes: Grand Tour - So, the first challenge I see changing is the Grand Tour challenge. It's going to be super easy now thanks to metallic hydrogen and fusion drive engines. The power of them will allow for some really cut down world record times. Combine that with Interstellar ships built via Orbital Construction, and you got a ship that can visit everywhere no problem. World Land Speed Record - Atmospheric MH engines are going to take the current record to new heights. It will also probably make it a lot harder since no doubt MH engines will allow you to reach solar system escape velocity and throw your craft off the ground in seconds. Mun Run - I mean, MH engines, what else is there to say. MH is going to break everything. KSP 2 challenges: Colony Grand Tour - Like the regular Grand Tour, but instead of planting a flag, you have to place down a colony as well as put an orbiting colony around every planet. (Yes, that means every terrestrial planet will have 2, 1 orbital, 1 landed.) Galactic Grand Tour - Visiting every body, every solar system, and planting a flag on every terrestrial body Galactic Colony Grand Tour - Like Colony Grand Tour, but with every body in every star system. Deb Deb World Speed Record - This comes in two flavors: Flyby and Orbiting -Flyby: Simple, you just have to flyby the system INSIDE the sphere of influence for Deb Deb, even if it's the outer most point. --Flyby Hard mode: You have to flyby Ded Deb the star, not the system. You have to be within the inner most planet's orbit for it to count. ---Flyby Super Hard Mode: You have to flyby Deb Deb the star so close that you see the steel on your craft starting to boil. (You have to have your temperature reading warning going off.) Deadalus engine should serve as a good heat shield. I mean, it practically deals with the temperatures of star anyway, right? -Orbital: You actually have to get into an orbit of Deb Deb, any orbital altitude will do. --Orbital Hard Model: Your orbit has to be within the inner most planet's orbit. --Orbital Super Hard mode: You have to get into an orbit of a planet within the Deb Deb system, or you have to orbit so close to the star that your temperature warnings go off. Lightspeed Colony - Build an orbital colony ship and get it up to light speed as quick as possible. Lightspeed World Record Time - Get up to lightspeed as quick as possible. (Or at least 99% of it) Tallest Colony Challenge - Build the tallest colony you can without anything toppling.

We crossed the 3 months to go mark! Whoo! Get more coal on that fire! This train needs some fuel!

Kerbal Sports
GoldForest replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I actually think this is a neat idea worth implementing. Maybe not as say a full on you can actually play golf or throw a football or etcetera, but more animations of the Kerbals doing stuff would be nice, yeah. -
We've seen nothing of a weather system. If you're talking about the volumetric clouds, AFAIK, they're purely cosmetic and have no effect on the rocket. They aren't like Ace Combat 7's clouds that give icing, water and wind.

That's my thoughts too, but I was going to leave it up to the mods/admins to decide.

@Sky Kerman Wrong date. Feb 24th, 2023 @ 11am/12pm cst/est

It really depends on the game. Even in most games, the 4090 can't get above 120 fps at 4K, and that's with Ray Tracing and DLSS off. And the 3090 is overkill at all three of the major resolutions. It can do 60 fps at 4K in some games at Ultra. But most people game at 1080P with 1440P (16:9) coming in second. Even at 1440P, the 3090 can get well over 60fps in most games at ultra. The 10 series might be old, and you might have to mess with settings, but they're still good cards that should run KSP 2 just fine. You don't really need a 30 series or 40 series card. Just adjust your settings. You're going to need lots of Ram if you're modding in general. KSP 2 will load everything into memory just like KSP 1. It's the nature of these style of games. All the parts NEED to be loaded up so they can easily be accessed quickly. Not only the parts, but the Planets themselves too. Any game that needs to load items up fast will use lots of Ram. Gmod does it. And honestly, it is the best style of system for these types of games. Do you really want to sit on a frozen screen for more than a few seconds while it accesses the hard drive, moves data into the ram, and then reads said data? If it's already in ram, it can read it almost instantly, saving literally possibly a minute or more on load time, especially for people with old hard drives, or hard drives that run slower than 7200 rpm.

Actually @Strawberry, thinking about it, NERV-US might be the scientific name and Swerv might be the nickname. Like: LV-N "Nerv" LV-1 "Ant" Etcetera So the full name might be: Nerv-us "Swerv"

Welcome back from the woods. Just some images taken on my newly upgraded desktop. Love ultrawide monitors. (The monitor isn't new. I'm just expressing my love for them. ) If anyone has any screenshot requests or suggestions, please do ask/tell. I'll see about doing them between breaks in my current mission to launch every probe in BDB.

Ah, must have missed that show and tell. Hmmm. We'll have to wait and see if there are 2 or 3 nuclear engines on game to know for sure.

I think it's the first stage everyone has a problem with. In most cases it's short and fat. Doing this long boi first stage makes it look better, imo at least. Also, @Blufor878 why the fins on the skirt? You don't really need them. The C-8 has more than enough thrust vectoring. Also, you're just putting more drag on an already heavy drag skirt.

New heat protection
GoldForest replied to Vortygont's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Oh, I forgot about those, my apologizes. Hmm. Well, this has gotten off topic, so I'm going to end this here. All I have left to say is MM the temperature tolerance up.- 15 replies

New heat protection
GoldForest replied to Vortygont's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I think they're more supposed to be sub orbital flights, like the X-15 or the upcoming Concorde 2, seeing as the temperature tolerance is around 1200 K.- 15 replies

New heat protection
GoldForest replied to Vortygont's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Neither Mk 1 cockpit was made for space travel. They're meant to make airliners and jets, not spaceplanes. The Mk2 and the Mk3 are the only cockpits space rated since they have over 2000 K heat tolerance. Honestly, I feel like they should add new micro shuttle parts instead of making the Mk1 survive reentry. Or give us conformal/modular heat panels like you suggest. Also, a problem with your design might be that it has little surface area for heat to spread out. Try adding more wing area, maybe even some belly wings.- 15 replies

Nope. The game still sits at mostly positive, even in the recent category. And from what I can tell, it's only a low percentage of people that have software bound problems with the launcher. From what I've seen, it's just people complaining about having to click a few more buttons, which I do agree is stupid, but at the same time, we can bypass the launcher through using the exe file or by downloading a mod/addon, so I don't get what's the big problem since there's already two solutions.

The Swerve engine is a bigger Nerv engine, more powerful and more efficient engine. It's not just a clone. And I think we've already seen it.
