Have you played Bungie's fun old creation called Myth (actually there was a trilogy)? Let's see: not heavy in graphics and is not an FPS. Its at least as open world as the screenshots I'm seeing of various suggestions. Most gameplay is had "outdoors" and the maps reveal as you explore them. However, you usually have a group instead of one character to manage. It does take a certain character to "win" the campaign (not so with most online play). The characters that survive earlier events continue in later play and they gain experience and become better at their tasks. You can, with a a few clicks, control ALL your units, or one Class of unit, a group of selected units (any combination of class) or an individual unit. You do get a strong sense of progression in throughout the game. It is not endless combat (though some moments are intense) and there is very little dialog. There are some cutscenes and each map has a chapter narration. It was a groundbreaking game in its day and I've never heard of any comparison with Rogue. The game has many a humorous element throughout, if you enjoy a good laugh now and then. Also, if you like a good plot and story driven action, this game, like all of Bungie's early games, may be for you. Edit: Trivia-- Jason Jones called Halo "Myth on steroids". Learn about it and get it here for modern OSes: http://www.projectmagma.net/what/ Note that the demo files are available there. Information on where to get the full game is there as well. Nothing underhanded there, you'll see. The game includes a tutorial level, which is quite useful. Here is a Myth (II) trailer; the graphics are a lot nicer in game than this video would suggest: Check it out!

I dislike not ultimately having a VAB/ space dock in orbit around one of the moons. Imagine assembling and launching interplanetary craft in orbit. The implication is that materials and components are mined, processed and manufactured at the moon(s) and lofted into orbit from that low gee environment; or reclaimed from redirected asteroids. I dislike not having stock multiplayer (which Squad first was adamant about never going to be a feature and later touted as a future element of the game), but am glad its coming. For new players (such as friends, etc.), I dislike the limited nature of tutorials and lack of (any kind of) manuals. The forums and You Tube videos out there are where I send friends; not to anything helpful in game. The game at times requires little thought and effort for reward and at other times demands eking out small gains at the cost of too much time and effort for the rewards.

All the above is good advice. If you've done the less challenging, less expensive options and still have problems, then the last thing to replace is the radiator. I've done that myself; not too hard and not as expensive as having a shop do it.

I went to public schools. I know people who homeschool. I recommend home school.

Some news and tidbits about games on a variety of platforms.
Dispatcher posted a topic in The Lounge
From an obscure You Tube channel update, this video discusses games and news you might like: Mass Effect 1 on Xbox 1 plays better than on 360; Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition, Taken King Expansion for Destiny; Blightfall, a Hardcore Quest Map for Minecraft; Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited; and Marathon Infinity and some mods for it. The video intro has a still image but the rest of the video is ... video. -
My vote: Other. Something not commonly video'd.

Really cute kitten. Some of them seem to find a way to find a home. Take good care of it!

KSP support for Microsoft Hololens
Dispatcher replied to Bencointl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Just to add a different perspective, you will not like this at all (but its interesting reading): http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/01/24/i-bet-my-life-microsoft-hololens-perfectly-targets-its-core-competency In other words, Occulus Rift and Google Glass (and perhaps even Apple, due to its interesting purchases) are further along this road than is M$, at least according to the article's author. I hope M$ proves the article wrong, but I'd not count on it. -
This old comic had the Ceres bright spots all figured out: http://books.google.com/books?id=wJxNiUuTCdoC&pg=PA39#v=onepage&q&f=false

For those who like (or will like) playing the free Marathon and its sequels, get them here: http://marathon.sourceforge.net There are 4 packages available. Marathon, Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity and Aleph One. The latter is for playing third party scenarios and maps (mods). Supported platforms are Windows, Mac OS and Linux; the site should offer you the correct version to download but you can manually choose as well. If you've ever wanted to play early Bungie games or you like first person shooters, check them out! Use this link and scroll down for the release notes.

I like this:
-
"My TWR is better than your TWR" (One could substitute things like dV, iSP, etc.) "What's your ascent profile?" "I like to circularize MY orbits" "Anyone for an EVA?" "SRBs give me a boost!" I'll stop now.

Welcome back! May you get better every day.

I graphed launch/ engine tests for various KSP versions, including the latest version. These are "load" tests, with about 60% of the craft as "dry" mass. Being that these are Kerbin surface launches and flights begin low in the gravity well and with atmosphere, one may readily see which engines are intended for vacuum/ low gee. Engines not included are also intended for vacuum/ low gee, but failed to lift off from the surface. Of course some engines do well in intermediate stages, but my tests are single stage/ single engine (3 engines max for radials). The only mod used is KER. See version 1.0-ish: https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5330/17586916398_fe69d2d033_o.png Edit: In these tests the Rapier Air mode reached higher than the Rapier Mixed mode because the Mixed mode flight ran out of fuel just before the cycle was to automatically change from air to closed. Each mode allows the same engine to launch with somewhat different starting masses for the craft. Other tests (efficiency, "utility", "both") were charted but are not shown in this graph; only mentioned in connection to their "color codes".

"Never Satisfied"; a secret level which is normally accessed via a secret teleporter exit in a prior level. So the gameplay shown was accessed by use of a simple cheat at the main game menu instead. What's funny is that the duo doesn't seem to realize that the level is a secret one, even though secret levels seem to be a bit more outlandish than the "normal" levels:

Fairings does anyone use them
Dispatcher replied to Nich's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I only use them when I have no practical choice. A lot of it depends on the mission and the design. -
Thanks for your charts and the work that went into them.

Given the length of time that any planetary system exists, the odds do not favor another planet in another system having a civilization which only differs technologically from us by a mere 50 years or so. In fact, the Drake equation seems to restrict our own technological level (in terms of electromagnetic spectrum communication) to a small sliver of time relative to the lifespan of a civilization; and restricts the span of multi celled life on a planet to a fraction of the planet's existence. That said, good luck on your game!

MODO | 3DS MAX | MAYA | Lightwave | Blender
Dispatcher replied to a topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
Blender good. -
As in older threads on the same topic, there is Bungie's (now free) Marathon single player Trilogy, and you can play M2 or Infinity online using your Windows, Mac or Linux box: http://marathon.sourceforge.net This will give you some ideas of the first one (or not): ... and the second one is lightyears beyond the first one: If you want fun, this should be a rewarding surprise.
