Ya know, it's just not as interesting when they don't try to land the stage (or if it doesn't blow up). I know Musk isn't happy about throwing away a brand new stage, and I bet he'll be happier when expendable missions are flown on experienced used flight-proven stages

F-14 Tomcat (star of the movie Top Gun) or the F-4 Phantom, another mean-looking twin-jet fighter (saw it in flight at an airshow) Darnit, got ninja'd while reading up on them on Wiki. I suggest taking a look, they're both interesting. Apparently the F-4 was the most-produced supersonic fighter, with 5195 produced between 1958 and 1981

KSP Forums Cities: Skylines Collab. Open to all.
StrandedonEarth replied to cantab's topic in The Lounge
Been there when my population sickened, after forgetting about a water tower near where I eventually put a mining district. I don't think that city ever did recover after wide swaths went dark. -
Go ahead, hammer away!

1.3 - What will it have?
StrandedonEarth replied to KAL 9000's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I agree that a BYOP (Build Your Own Aircraft Plane) air/near-space combat simulator could be quite a bit of fun! Although I suppose care would need to be taken to avoid having a weapon or loadout that dominates. Build your own weapons too? Oops, I'm off-topic here.... I think 1.3 has been pretty much decided. I guess it's time for a "What do you want in 1.4 or 2.0" discussion thread.... -
Obviously, it's 42. This "seed" theory fits into Arthur C. Clarke's four book Rama series (the first written by himself, the rest in collaboration with Gentry Lee). The final book, Rama Revealed, reveals the premise that.... (spoiler protection activated) I don't want to debate the premise, as then we would probably run afoul of the forum rules. I just wanted to point out that something similar to "seed theory" has been already fictionalized.

I had a lot of fun with the Vampire in CFS3. Only thing is that one had to be careful, as it was easy to tear it into pieces by maneuvering too hard.

If you can quote Vogon poetry. Bonus points if you can do it without being strangled by your own intestines.

KSP1 Computer Building/Buying Megathread
StrandedonEarth replied to Leonov's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My 10yo son had saved up all his birthday, Christmas, and newspaper money (He helps deliver with myself and his older brother) for his own laptop and had over half the money he needed. After some poking around, I found this laptop on sale, so we chipped in the rest. It doesn't have an optical drive, although there is space for one, but those are rarely used these days anyways. The on-chip Intel 620 graphics seems to be reasonably capable; certainly better than the nVidia GeForce GT630m on my older 3rd gen i7 laptop (passmark G3D scores: 943 vs 678). Nothing spectacular, but reasonably priced. The best part? The specs on the linked site (where I bought it) say it does not have a touchscreen or backlit keyboard, but the reality is, it has both! I think it's a pretty good score. I'm still in the middle of setting it up, but I'm sure he'll be happy with it. Now I just have to get him hooked on KSP! It's certainly tempting to trade computers with him, but my wife won't let me... -
You could copy and paste it into a Word document. Word will tell you how many, um, words. To prevent any forum glitches from eating my work in progress, I typed it out in Word and then pasted it here. I can tell by the font used that others have probably done this too. Hey @Badie, can you confirm if titles and/or bylines count towards the word count? Judging by the word-count limit inspired by the magazine theme, I assume since pics (screenshots) consume a lot of printed-page real estate, they would not be allowed.

We never had that issue with the PS2 when we had one, and it was a well-traveled workhorse. Our 360 (2nd gen, think it was an S, if that matters) never had an issue during its career either. And we tried switching the Wii between vertical and horizontal after servicing/replacing (i.e. it was vertical before we sent it out, tried horizontal when we got it back) and it never made a difference. /shrug

The issue we (and many others) had with the original Wii was that it would put ring scratches on the game discs, as if something hard was dragging on the disc as it spun. Even after sending it back several times to be fixed or replaced, that issue never went away. And some of the discs it ruined turned out to be irreplaceable. It seemed the only solution was to take the disc out before powering down the unit, which was a minor hassle when only one game was being played. I've never heard of that issue with another console. With PC's, Ipads, XB1 and a Wii U in the house, I hope one of the kids doesn't decide they want a Switch. Don't we have enough gamecrap in the house already? Sheesh! Yeah I know, we don't have a PS3/4, but don't think they haven't thought/asked about it!

Flying tank killer, that is. With a titanium bathtub for the pilot and slab sides to handle all the ground fire it attracts by flying low.
-
My kids used to play that....

It starts with one... unit, and then ties into the others

Some good points there. OTOH, I also feel that someone's birthday should be their own personal statutory holiday, which would neatly circumvent that issue. As it is, my birthday falls on the last possible day for the first day of school (the first Tuesday after Labor Day here), so school is always in by the time I get my birthday (I know, that's how it is for the majority of people, but still) and at least twice I got the first day of school for my birthday. Oh yay .

Hmm. Aircraft carriers typically sail into the wind during landing ops to reduce the speed of the aircraft relative to the deck. Would New Glenn's landing ship sail with the wind to reduce the wind speed across the deck while landing?
