  1. Total dV is also available in the VOID mod. Possible destinations is quite dependent on piloting skills and optimal transfers, however. I don't think that is available anywhere. I myself think dV figures should be available after a few test flights, once Wehrner gets the rocket equation figured out.
  2. Actually, SS1 and SS2 have thermal protection, but the thermal loads are low enough that it mostly amounts to a special paint/coating. The feathering part is the movable wing assembly that moves into a configuration similar to a (badminton) shuttlecock, which aerodynamically keeps the ship in the ideal attitude for re-entry. This allows for a hands-free re-entry because all ship systems could be dead and it would still stay in the proper attitude, although the rest of the descent could be problematic in that case.
  3. When I launch KSP from the launcher under Win8.1 I get the pop-up question about allowing it to run or make changes etc. It'll either say KSPx64.exe or KSP.exe (or something like that.) You can change which one it launches under settings. Or you can skip the launcher by running which .exe you want from your KSP folder.
  4. Well, I don't know a lot about getting these things going so whoever can make it so is welcome to get the ball rolling
  5. I read somewhere in these forums that the i3 is better than the i5 for KSP. If so, could someone explain why please? thanks!
  6. This stuff is awesome! Is there anywhere I can buy that SRB mug in your sig? Can I suggest a "Dark Side of the Mun" version? Just replace the spreading light inside the prism with a kerbal rocket and add the caption "See you on the Dark side of the Mun." I simply don't have the skills you do!
  7. this would be a great ideaAnd I just sent that suggestion to NASA at: public-inquiries@hq.nasa.gov. Body of the email I sent: "I know that Nasa is familiar with the space program simulator “Kerbal Space Program.†The KSP community would be thrilled if a Kerbal could be printed on the ISS using the just-delivered zero-g 3D printer. It would be the easiest and cheapest way to get a Kerbal model into space. I hope this would be considered. Thank you."
  8. I think this summed it up best. You want the math to back it up, you say: Change in velocity is governed by dV=at (acceleration times time). In this case acceleration is provided by (the local) gravity (g), so dV=gt. Slowing down sooner means your descent takes longer, so gravity has longer to act, as already stated. So if t (descent time) is, for instance, doubled, then the dV accrued from gravity also doubles, meaning your ship needs to expend twice the dV to counteract gravitational acceleration. I was also unsure why a suicide burn would be better until I read wasmic's post, at which point I had to smack my forehead and think "Of course, duh! that makes total sense"
  9. Petition NASA to print a Kerbal on the ISS with their new zero-g 3D printer
  10. Well, my noob method of getting to the Mun was to crank an orbit out to munar orbit and wait for an encounter. This was before I figured out maneuver nodes. Not that funny, I know...
  11. Actually my question was how well an aircraft engine (especially piston engines) would run when flying through a methane cloud. The fuel/air mixture would be much richer than usual. Since "natural gas" is mostly methane, lots of stuff runs on it: my stove, fireplace, furnace, hot water heater... Which is why I also stated (and elsewhere). It was floated as an explanation for unexplained disappearances in general, especially in coastal regions. The Bermuda Triangle is merely the "poster boy" for unexplained disappearances.
  12. Methane hydrates have also been suggested as a cause for disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle (and elsewhere). A ship in an area of a massive methane release would be unable to stay afloat in the frothing sea, and an airplane flying through a fresh methane cloud would probably ignite it (a mere spark would do it) and get knocked out of the sky. At the very least, I'm not sure how the engines would perform running incredibly rich.
  13. It'll be just like the good ol' days on SimCity 4, unleashing tornadoes, earthquakes, UFO's and killer robots on an unsuspecting kerpulation.
  14. *facepalm* So obvious in retrospect, but I'll jump in here then. This one is probably too obvious to those in the know I absorb all light I kick-start intelligence I contain the first three squares What am I?
  15. The first thing that comes to mind is a belly, but I'm not sure that fits the last couplet...
  16. Useful for when you want to pick up a crash-landed or propellantless kerbal from somewhere. Saves you from having to make a pinpoint landing or a long walk. I once drove over 100km on Tylo for a rescue mission.
  17. I was going to tell a joke about a vacuum cleaner but decided not to, cuz it sucks. And the joke about the hospital is pretty sick.
  18. Wow. That's just... just... wow. Impressive even. Sherlock would be stumped.
