The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
11of10 replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Mikecaft, I can't wait to see that rig of yours since I'm constructing something similar for Eve survey expedition! -
Or you can get the unofficial recompiled EXE that works like a charm on new windows' http://www.frontierastro.co.uk/Hires/hiresffe.html Looks gorgeous, doesn't it? Also, a bit off topic, but has anyone ever dabbled with editing the exe itself to change the starting ship, or some ship's capabilities? I had a detailed guide for it long time ago, don't have a clue now where I found it tho..

You post brings forth unimaginable attention to KSP forums, destabilising the Internet in th e process, which has an adverse effect on the world economy, plunging the planet into chaos, anarchy and WW3. Good work, you just destroyed our only hope of getting a new patch for Kerbal, not to mention seeing the future of spaceflight! I watch National Geographic Channel while working the night shift, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

@steve_v Well neither Elite nor Supremacy are exclusive to C-64, Elite was popular on a variety of systems, including PC/MS-DOS, with the above mentioned First Encounters being the third game in the series, and, tho buggy, a huge thing for probably everyone on this forum. One of the first games where you could actually do a gravity slingshot (or so I'm told, never tried it myself) and the only really Fiction thingy being the Hyperdrives. And of course Thargoids themselves Supremacy was actually ported to C-64 from Amiga I think... In any case, I think Supremacy is abandonware now, so you can check it out. Also, I have to add something to the list: Milennium - return to Earth.

World peace is declared, all the weapons engineers get together and make automated aircraft, you're out of a job. I get a job at SpaceX, WCPGR?

I remember, long time ago, that a friend told me about this game where you launch little green men into space (almost his exact words) and I remember thinking about some children's game, and saying "Pfft, where's the fun in that". Fast forward a few years, I somehow stumbled upon KSP (maybe literally StumbleUpon, don't have a clue) and staring thrilled, for that was just what I wanted! A day of demo later, I bought the game on Steam, and here I am. Of course, I'm still to go anywhere else but Mun/Minmus, and still haven't done much more than fooling around LKO, but... well... that's it! Edit: Just realised I haven't said when I actually got it: August 2013.

Well, regarding school: Second year of high school, computer science class, we got a new CS teacher, and the poor guy literally knew less than my friend or I. Now, my friend Ivan and I were perhaps a bit snobby, since our previous teacher simply adored us due to our knowledge (and pretty much let us do whatever we wanted during classes, sometimes using us as teaching assistants). So anyway, this new guy comes and decides to "put us in proper place". After a few classes, we're furious with him since he literally got scared silly when screensaver started on teacher's computer, and there he is, telling us, who know more than him, what to do. So, I go to one corner of the classroom, and start using DOS "attrib" command to hide all files in all folders on the hard drive (Windows 3.11). Ivan goes to the other corner, and starts placing passwords in BIOS. It's petty I know, but that's what we did. That was Friday. Comes Monday, first class was Chemistry, we're all sitting sleepy and trying to learn about electron power levels and such, when school principal storms in, and starts to yell at the entire class: "YOU UNGRATEFUL BUNCH OF MISCREANTS, YOU DIABOLICAL SABOTEURS (He actually said that!) YOU NO GOOD BUNCH OF CRIMINALS" etc etc... So we're all sitting scared silly and confused, not knowing what it was (we forgot actually what we did on Friday!) when he drops it: "THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SCIENCE CLASSROOM IS DESTROYED! HALF THE COMPUTERS HAVE EVERYTHING ERASED, THE OTHER HALF ARE LOCKED, AND YOU WERE THE LAST CLASS TO ATTEND! I'LL EXPEL EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU FROM SCHOOL!". Ok, we're in trouble! -another angry tirade from the principal later, he composes himself a little, and says: "I know who did it!" I just thought "Oh crap!" when he said "NNNNN It was YOU! I know it was you, you know all that computer stuff" And suddenly, the entire class went from being frozen in terror to laughing our rear ends off, since the guy couldn't even install a simple game, let alone make such a "diabolical sabotage", but he always was bragging how he could do this and that... God, I still laugh when I remember that story!

That would be DooM Well, let's see... Descent Freespace and Freespace 2, TIE Fighter (tho never liked X-Wing, don't know why..) Elite, of course, played it on my Commodore 64, still didn't get the new one tho... Master of Orion 1 and 2 Heroes of Might and Magic 2 (3 is okish, after that, waste of time) Star Control 2 One Must Fall 2097 Pinball Fantasies Commander Keen! Tho only 4,5 and more or less 6, Invasion of Vorticons had too MEH graphics for me, even then... Jazz Jackrabbit Oh, of course, Rock'n'Roll racing on SEGA Megadrive II (or whatever it is also called... Blizzard rocks!) Which reminds me, does Starcraft count? Supremacy (also known as Overlord) my first contact with 4X games, again on Commodore 64 Original Command and Conquer and Red Alert 1 Lots more which I cannot recall at this time...

If you were a Kerbal, would you fly in your own rockets?
11of10 replied to jwilhite's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Rockets, yes. Easily. Anything of mine that launches a crew is almost 100% reliable, and usually heavily tested before on automatic. Airplanes, not in a million years! I just can't make a good aircraft! Rovers, well, if I drive slowly, yes. -
When you start to push yourself, really breaking sweat, you might start feeling calm, incredibly calm and focused. I had that experience, and it's great. I haven't noticed that anybody mentioned it, but at least for me, it was almost all the reward I needed. Good luck!

Send the fast ship full of needed supplies, take back 1/3 of the crew. Send the ship again later. Original response: have none. Don't like these sort of problems. Either save everyone or don't. How the hell are you going to choose who to be the 1/3 you save? Do they have kids? If yes, and kids need them yadayada, that can be counter argumented that they have already seeded their genes, so you should pick up the guys without children.

Massive psychological experiment in the KSP forums.
11of10 replied to gmpd2000's topic in The Lounge
Depends on the speed of the train as well. In a relatively slow moving train, the immense mass of the train might actually protect the passengers inside from harm as it would take some time to slow down even derailed. As for the Depends on the country in which the event is happening. People might just choose to put a bomb in the parliament building. Big bomb. With lots of explosives... -
what kind of ksp DLC would you like?
11of10 replied to Roderik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Imagine an expansion for the game called "Space Race". It comes out once multiplayer is already implemented and matured. Add RSS/RO to it. Get a friend to see who'd get to the Moon first (or the Mun, depending on you preferences) With the game then becoming more like BARIS. -
Nice pictures! Now only to find out about the "soft" landing on the ocean surface…
-
Is it just me, or is SpaceX stream one minute late when compared to NASA TV?
-
Around here the launch window is just after midnight. I've been trying to see this since sunday night, and in the end they won't even try to land. Damn storms. Well, bon voyage DSCOVR!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2050946430/project-earendel?ref=category Anyone seen this?

Well, even if they fail utterly in all that they plan to do, and go bankrupt by this time next year, humanity as a whole shall learn something, just like we learned frome the Shuttle failure. So, even in failure, there is success
