[IVA][1.1] MK3 Pod IVA Replacement by Apex (WIP)
ss8913 replied to robertlong13's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'm familiar with how to modify the config files to do what I want. I'd just like it to be configurable in-flight or in-SPH -

The description in VAB/SPH also still has the ISRU description Has anyone had any luck getting the new Throttle Controlled Avionics to work with KSPIE's engines and RCS? Before 1.1.x, the old version with the much-simpler UI, worked great with KSPIE. The new version (for either 1.0 or 1.1) does not seem to understand how to balance engines or deal with RCS in most cases.. and sometimes throws RCSWrapper.init exceptions... I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. Anyone else have any luck here? I've reported this on the TCA thread and sent them logs, but that was a couple days ago and nobody's replied to the thread since, so not sure what's going on. Making spaceplane ops very difficult though >< -

I say this only because I had the same problem back in the day - you did bring science to it and push the yellow button to 'store data' in the lab? and the lab is showing a non-zero amount of data, and the researching function is turned on? -

Haven't tried the mothership idea with QSR but... I'm getting 55k dV now with @FreeThinker's suggestion of using both thermal turbojet and thermal ramjet nozzles.. using plasma-beam upgraded antimatter reactors, charged particle generators... and a folding 3.75m warp drive or two, built into the SSTO itself. Mothership seems somewhat unnecessary. Would still be exceptionally nice if there was some kind of warp-drive calculator or interface. ie, for using Kerbol's gravity to match velocity vectors to the destination, so you don't arrive at Tekto with a 25km/s circularization burn. I know the concept and I can usually eyeball it but since you can't know the exact relative angles between Kerbin's and Sarnus's point-in-time orbital vectors, you have to just eyeball it. And that doesn't take into account inclination differences at all. -
Here's the log message. There are *thousands* of these, they start throwing like crazy whenever I turn TCA on, whilst using a craft containing the KSPIE RCS parts. When this happens, all the active engines stay at 100% as though they're not being managed at all. It's making things quite difficult in terms of precision VTOL operations, to say the least [EXC 04:00:06.685] IndexOutOfRangeException: Array index is out of range. Working on getting you the logs. IN the meantime, I can tell you this - turning off RCS entirely causes TCA to balance thrust among my engines as expected. Which gives me great pitch control but no yaw or roll, since I have no RCS authority Is there any way to just turn off the TCA RCS controls and have it only balance engine thrust? I just want it to balance engines to hold a desired attitude, and I want that attitude controllable manually or by MJ2 or I suppose by the internal autopilot, but I apparently need TCA to have hands-off-my-RCS since it appears to Hate the Resistojet RCS from KSPIE I'll try to scare up those logs.

@raxo2222 - are you setting your mechjeb2 to "TGT+" and "Force Roll" turned on? That will definitely cause this. Turn off "Force Roll" to make it stop. To everyone: does anyone now know what the best reactor/engine/fuel combination for max ISP is? I used to get really high ISP out of antimatter/hybrid thermal rocket/hydrazine, but it seems the ISP was turned down on the thermal engines, and I'm only getting 33-50% of what I used to get. I need to make something with about 60km/s dV, and now I'm struggling to get over 30km/s in the new version. -

Yeah, the thing in the cockpit that shows liquidfuel/oxidizer/monopropellant. Anyone using KSPIE or RealFuels will show those as zero, all the time, and it'd be awesome if there was a way in-game to change what resources each one reported. I'd personally like Hydrazine, Antimatter, and WasteHeat, for example. -
0.90 Kerbal Weather Systems! Alpha 0.5.3 WIP! (Jan 2)
ss8913 replied to silverfox8124's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
lol... "it's not updated because it's not updated" - it's both funny *and* correct Question though, @silverfox8124, how does this interact with EVE clouds, and is it better/worse/no-different-than say, Kerbal Wind? Do I need both or just wait for yours to update? -
I don't think it's possible to simulate weather without working air...

[IVA][1.1] MK3 Pod IVA Replacement by Apex (WIP)
ss8913 replied to robertlong13's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
One suggestion I'd have for this mod - give me a configuration window to set the speed units (or follow the FAR settings if FAR is installed - this feature might *only* work with FAR installed actually)... and also to set what resources the fuel gauges display. People running lots of mods such as KSPIE and RealFuels are likely not using "liquidfuel" "oxidizer" and "monopropellant". Sure, this can all be fixed by doing a lot of hand-edits of the config files, but an in-game configuration tool would make the IVAs a lot more useful to people running mods like this. -

New definition for "coming in hot" then, I suppose... "KSC Tower, Experimental 213DX inside the outer marker landing rwy 09" <controller puts on thermal goggles> "Experimental 213DX are you aware..." "...KSC Tower, yes, we're aware. Coming in hot. Fifth time today, this never gets old for you, does it Steve?" "Experimental 213DX, no it does not. Cleared to land runway 09" sounds like wasteheat management will be an issue, but it also sounds like a good way to transport mass quantities of... stuff... to the outer planets. -

so I can now make a spaceplane powered by a quantum singularity.... nice in a world without the EPA and OSHA, anything is truly possible. And very, very dangerous. -
[1.0]Vanguard Technologies | EVA parachutes | still works
ss8913 replied to Kreuzung's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
This is, surprisingly, one of the mods that has created some of my favorite KSP moments... bad re-entry damages the plane, aero drag does more.. trying to limp it across the western ocean and can't quite clear the mountains... crew bailout and survive.. some very heroic stuff going on there can't wait to have this mod back again -
Most of my spaceplanes are in the "hundreds of tons" weight class and have a delta wing design requiring an over-the-fence speed of 200-250kts. Doubling up the mains as Large or Extra Large stock landing gear is sufficient. I am however increasing the spring and damper rates and making smooth landings at those speeds, but the gear withstands it. Using FAR as well but not sure that makes a difference here. If I don't do a delta wing design and use horizontal stabilizers behind the main wing (thus making flaps a thing that can happen) then I can get the stall speeds considerably lower. Adds a bit of transonic wave drag doing it that way though (only an issue in FAR and real life though, if you're playing stock aero you don't have this effect).

no sandbox is fine, and no the exception catcher mod doesn't show any exceptions when it happens. I'm currently using FAR and DRE and don't have any exploding parts issues... not since 1.0.5. seems to be sorted in the latest everythings. @FreeThinker - one other thing - the antimatter reactors no longer have a 1.25m scale? -
Long-time user, first (or second) time poster here... with the previous version that I had in 1.0.5, I knew what I was doing. Now I feel like I don't. I built a craft in 1.1.2 similar to my old designs, with two augmented arcjet ATILLA thrusters pointing downward, both in front of and behind the CoM. In the previous version with the default settings, I'd fire up the engines, set SAS and RCS to on, turn on TCA, throttle up and the craft would balance thrust between the two engines and lift my craft majestically into the air. Sadly this seems to no longer be the case (I have read the manual, just now, before posting and before flying, it doesn't seem to address my question). It... basically does little or nothing to control the attitude, and I have to set the thrust limiter on one or both of my engines manually to avoid flipping backwards or fowards. The effect is worse with TCA off so I know TCA is doing *something* but it seems to be relying only on RCS authority and not engine limits. I've tried setting the VTOL engines to "balanced thrust," which made very little difference (if at all). What am I missing here? Second issue - the Exception Tracker mod is claiming that TCA is throwing thousands of exceptions per minute in the RCS initialization function. This may be because I'm using KSPIE's 5-way retractable resistojet thrusters and not stock RCS; however in 1.0.5 I was using these same parts and not seeing any problems. I do not know if my 2 issues are related however. As I said, I was using these same RCS (and those same ATILLA VTOL engines) in 1.0.5 and TCA "just worked" out of the box when I turned it on. If I'm doing something wrong here please correct my behavior thank you.

@FreeThinker - I can confirm that the upgraded antimatter reactor does not have the right-click-menu problem. Only shows up in the first version of the antimatter reactor. -
There's a trick to it. Just like on real aircraft, you're running into a problem overloading your main gear. The stock gear aren't as strong as the ALG variants. Double up (or triple up) your main gears to distribute the load more evenly. And if you want to stop a plane that's heavy enough for that to be an issue, you *will need* parachutes to stop, even if you've got max friction and max braking on all of your wheels. I suggest using the RealChute radial chutes - they're far better than stock chutes. 4 of those things set to max size, Kevlar material, and "triple chute" - will stop a 500t+ spaceplane from 200+kts EAS on the runway in a safe fashion, in conjunction with airbrakes and wheel brakes.

[1.12.x] Mark IV Spaceplane System (August 18, 2024)
ss8913 replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
suggestion for the update; have the mod "recommend" modular fuel tanks (in CKAN anyway) and avoid using a hardcoded IFS configuration which limits the parts to only stock fuel types. If you let modular fuel tanks have its way, then people using Interstellar (for example) or Real Fuels, can put non-stock fuels in the parts without modifying the part configs like I had to do in 1.0.5 would make things tons more flexible for heavily-modded-install users like myself. I think it ends up actually being less work and less maintenance for you as well. -

let's see.. KSP = 1.1.2 KSPIE = 1.8.17 IFS = 2.0.6 TweakScale = 2.2.11 ModuleManager = 2.6.24 Again, I was intending to tweakscale the reactor, but the menu came up broken before I got that far, so not sure it's tweakscale-related at all. -

ss8913 replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@FreeThinker So.. not sure if it's KSPIE or Tweakscale, but this only happens with one part - the plasma beam antimatter reactor.. right clicking on it generates a broken rightclick menu that grows out of control saying "enter new text". So you can't rescale it, set the starting state, anything Just started happening recently as far as I can tell. -
@pellinor something has gone... awry The Big S wings (and control surfaces) now scale up to the expected sizes.. but I can no longer attach them to the sides of fuselages in the SPH. weirdest thing. they'll only attach to the bottom. Like.. directly to the underside. Nowhere else. They will not surface attach to the stock Mk3 fuselages at *any other angle* since this tweakscale update no idea what's going on, but that and interstellar fuel switch and kerbal konstructs are the only updates I've applied recently and I don't see how that could possibly affect this... update: it's not just the Big S wings or the stock Mk3 fuselages. It's *all wings* on *all fuselages* .. Stock parts, B9, anything. Even fins. update: it wasn't tweakscale. It was actually the latest update to "Editor Extensions Redux" that broke it. I had forgotten that it also updated. My apologies. Going to see if I can fix it now.
