This is my first attempt at animating anything in two years... but I think you'll like it. (No, it's not supposed to be good animation.) Introducing... What Really Happened to MAVEN! Grab some popcorn, everyone. This animation was done entirely in "Movie Studio Platinum 12," also known as Dumbed-Down Sony Vegas. I hand-drew all of the pictures myself, except for those of Mars, which I pulled off the NASA web site and Wikipedia. The sound effects were mostly either me, stock KSP, or from SoundCloud. This took about seven hours to complete, not counting breaks for meals and sleeping. I literally just finished it. I'm going to sleep now. Let me know what you think, and see you in the morning!

[STOCK CRAFT] Glitchpig industries!
BagelRabbit replied to Spacepigu's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I was actually being a little facetious. I've been building small rovers, planes, glitchy designs, etc. and posting videos on them since at least 0.21. Of course, you didn't steal the ideas from me, either. I suppose we both just like making the same sorts of things. You seem to prefer very small rovers, though, whereas I prefer VTOLs. Witness one of my latest creations, for example: the Most Adorable VTOL In KSP! That would be fantastic, just as long as you give me some sort of credit for the designs I make. -
Bad news from NASA, should KSP follow suit?
BagelRabbit replied to kiwi1960's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Hello. I am here to offer important information. The Apollo 11 flag was blown down, sure. But that means that one end of the flag was facing directly up towards space... and one end was facing down, towards lunar dirt. To quote the article: "...It is likely that these symbols of American achievement have been rendered blank, bleached white by the UV radiation of unfiltered sunlight on the lunar surface." (emphasis added) Well, one side of the Apollo 11 flag likely hasn't seen a ray of sunlight since 1969. This means that, as long as the other side hasn't caused the entire thing to deteriorate, the Stars and Stripes are still there, to paraphrase Mr. Key. This means that there still is a colored flag on the Moon, but that it's only colored on one side, and that's the side that we can't see. This also means that we could, one day, recover arguably the most important American Flag in history and display it at a museum, with its red and blue coloring intact. C'mon KSP'ers! We're building a Cubesat... now let's recover the Apollo 11 flag*! *It would be just about impossible to do this, but I guess if we're already attempting some borderline-feasible goals... -
Vagani Car Manufacturers- Get Inspired- Final Challenge
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wait. I'm all for entries into the competition (and aesthetics' craft looks like it's pretty nice) but I wish that everyone would post specs, like it says in the rules. I'm not saying that he shouldn't be allowed into the competition. I'm just saying that while he posted his design reasonably close to the deadline, he still hasn't posted specs yet, which was one of the most important parts of the post. Aesthetics, if you're reading this, could you please post the specs for this craft soon? That would probably be appreciated by Vagani, and it would certainly be appreciated by me. Thanks, and sorry to be a bother. -
Hmmm. If you were to do this in real life, with the ship throttled all the way up, bad things would happen. A million kilonewtons (kN) of thrust is about 225,000,000 pounds of thrust. It would basically be the equivalent of detonating an atom bomb in your engine's nozzle. There's no way that the engine could survive that, nor the rest of the ship. There's a good chance that some of the ship would be thrown upwards by the force, though much of it would be vaporized by the blast. The launch pad and much of the surrounding area would be destroyed. A mushroom cloud would rise from the pad, and the world would be reminded that trying to make a million-kilonewton rocket in real life is a bad idea. Nice video, by the way.

Sorry to double-post, but the video for the Pillbug-dropping plane is out. Not bad, eh? Unfortunately, the added mass of the parachutes makes the Pillbug a little less happy than it otherwise would be. Still, though. Air-dropping rovers is fun. -
See, I was going to launch it on an H195, but then I decided that it wasn't a good idea. I think the thing would shred. Besides, I'm thinking that this thing would be borderline unstable in even a slight wind, and I don't want to take any chances strapping a bigger motor on there. This is hardly rocket science, though.

My god. This thread is alive again? Hooray! So, I've been flying L1 for a while... mostly H motors, because our club doesn't have a wavier for any more than that. Some of you guys might remember when I got a Video Wednesday for launching Jeb and a GoPro. Here's a more recent Jeb and GoPro launch, as the original one wasn't nearly cinematic-ey enough! (Here's the Kerbal that the rocket was carrying, up close. It was made of clay, weighs about three ounces, and has been epoxied beyond belief. Sorry for the large image!) I currently hold the record (I think) for Highest Kerbal-Facsimile-Carrying Rocket Launch, at 2,891 feet. Same rocket, same Kerbal figurine, I140-14W DMS from Aerotech. Man, that thing took off fast. Good fun, all around. Also, I probably should have drilled the delay, as the thing was well on its way down before the parachute deployed. Fortunately, no zippers, and no damage! OH, AND BY THE WAY: I think I deserve some love for this... thing. It's a foam-core-board soccer field with LEGO minifigures on it. And it has a big styrofoam "soccer ball" on the top. And I flew it on a G78 Mojave Green motor. It spun as it went up, far into the clear blue yonder. It was a perfectly stable boost, contrary to the generally observed laws of physics. (Base drag is my friend.) It topped out at about 40 feet, because it was basically a parachute with a motor stuck to the back of it. And then it gently descended to Earth, breaking off a couple of the minifigures on landing but otherwise undamaged. It was a glorious triumph of science over sanity. I'm probably never going to fly it again, though. Anyways, if you have any questions about putting cameras on rockets (or flying sports fields), I can answer them.

BagelRabbit replied to Spacepigu's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
H'm. I thought I was the only one who made a bunch of small rovers, bizarre infinigliding things, aesthetically-pleasing-but-questionably-flyable aircraft, and very glitchy designs! ... Looking back on this, I obviously stole these ideas from you. I'm sorry. That being said, if that's all that you're going to do with infinigliders... well, here's a fairly good reason to pursue them a bit more. Not only is it fueled by glitches, but it also causes glitches. The Kraken seems to love it. And when I say "love it," I mean "love it." Your rovers are really awesome, by the way. I should get back to making some of those cute little guys. -
Meh, I'll probably come up with another plane, then... and make sure that it can SSTO properly. I'm really looking forward to entering a "pleasure craft," as well... most of my craft seem to be fun to fly, if nothing else, so this is the field that I feel most qualified for! (Of course, it's also the field with the stiffest competition, but I feel like I should at least enter something there. If nothing else, I can get others' opinions on how to make my planes better, which is definitely worth it.)
-
First off, this picture was taken immediately after the Pillbug separated from its carrier. Don't worry, I didn't have the parachutes inflated the whole time. I'm bad at designing spaceplanes, but I'm not that bad. Do the payload-carriers have to be SSTOs? I didn't pick that up, right away. If so, I'll probably need to design something else. At any rate, the only engines currently on the thing are two Turbojets. Yeah, I could have gotten the payload bay closer to the CoM, but the thing has its CoL pretty far back, which means it's stable... and it has SAS torque and control surfaces to help it be more agile in the most extreme circumstances. I've gotten it to fly with payloads of up to about seven tons, though it doesn't like that very much. I'm happy with where the bay is, right now... though I could probably move it around a little, if worst came to worst.
-
I think I've got something promising for "Best Light Cargo Spaceplane." I'm just going to post this as a teaser... it's got surprisingly good control, with or without payload. (Currently testing with the 4.1-ton Kerbswagen Pillbug as the cargo... a little sluggish with Pillbug in tow, but still pretty good control, all-around.) It does need a little tweaking (especially because of its low range; not capable of flying payloads far beyond the Island Runway) but progress is happening. By the way, do you more-experienced builders have any thoughts on this craft?

Vagani Car Manufacturers- Get Inspired- Final Challenge
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
That's awesome! I'm currently working on a way to air-drop the Pillbug... initial tests look promising. Getting it to the Mun is a bit cooler, though. How does it handle in the low-gravity conditions? I haven't tested it out on the Mun, yet. -
I still think that flying a Launch Stability Enhancer is the only way to change an orbit using no reaction mass, "getting out and pushing," or using a K-drive (which is forbidden under the rules, as it counts as a form of propulsion IMO). Launch Stability Enhancers don't use propulsion... they're basically just rendered physicsless (and gravity-less) because they're not designed to be used this way. Once they're in space, they simply maintain their velocity. They are, to make a long story short, true "massless parts..." which means that this is the only method that works so far. Again, because the rules are so vague, I may be completely wrong. The only thing that would be a problem is that I don't get to LKO first, but I don't really see a way that I could get a Launch Stability Enhancer into orbit, even with HyperEdit...

Who are the funniest KSP players on Youtube?
BagelRabbit replied to SiliconPyro's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thanks, man. I'm not entirely sure what you would describe my videos as, but they involve plenty of unique and sometimes bizarre craft (mostly of small size), as well as occasional bugs, KSP-themed music, and some lesser ongoing series-es. All in all, I basically do whatever comes into my head. You're right though; most to all of my videos are "short videos..." While you're at it, can you include Wookiee for me? He has 1200-ish subscribers and drove rovers around Kerbin, once. I'm sure he would appreciate the additional views. Thanks - -

BagelRabbit replied to SiliconPyro's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thanks! I guess I'll have to wait for a week or two before I can post there... I'm at about 960 subscribers right now On an unrelated note, how many exclusively-KSP Youtubers are in the 1,000-sub-club? I'm thinking that the number can't be any greater than twenty or thirty, though I may be wrong. -
I flew a Launch Stability Enhancer to the orbit of Eve, once. I think that this entry merits a full 2,000 points... except for the fact that it does "break classical physics." Just a little bit... (okay, maybe more than a little bit. Sorry.) Proof!

Vagani Car Manufacturers- Get Inspired- Final Challenge

Four, I believe. Plus the six solar panels, and the obscene amounts of batteries. All four are mounted on the underside, but they won't hit the terrain or explode unless you do something wrong. -

In the words of the Four Chords Song (listen to it pls)... "It's a bird... It's a plane... it's a [REDACTED] Bird-Plane!" Here, my friends, is a Bird-Plane. This took a surprising amount of time to do... but it was so worth it.

Reputation is what you get when you do something that other people want to reward, or give approval to. Essentially, the more reputation you have, the more you have done cool or worthy things on the Forum. You can see roughly how much +Rep a person has by looking just above their profile picture. A single blob of rep means you have 0-99 "points," two blobs is 100-199 points, etc. Because I have created artwork and music, made a number of neat craft, and occasionally posted a witty comment, I now have five rep blobs. People like Red Iron Crown (who commented above) have much more rep than I do, though. That's basically it, in a nutshell.

Definitely going to make some craft for this competition. Now I just have to stop making planes that look like birds... ...and instead, actually use that effort to make useful things. It will be hard, I know, but I think I can do it. (I would enter this in the competition, but there isn't really a category for something that flies poorly but looks really cool.)

I'm pounding the floor, howling with laughter. This is incredible. ... Could someone please help me up?

D'awww, thanks! I would agree that my videos are kid-safe and probably fast-paced enough to keep the kiddos happy. Also, would you really consider my ships "art?" They're not really all that artsy... [EDIT: Channel link!] -
The Music of the Spheres: Kerbol System Music Themes
BagelRabbit replied to GreeningGalaxy's topic in The Lounge
Hello! I'm making KSP music for the planets. Like, as we speak. Here's the link. Given, I've only made music for Duna, Eve and Dres so far. Working on something for the Mun right now.
