Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!

I wonder if the heat-shields can be stacked? Will they disintegrate when used up or just let heat damage through?

If you look at the small rocket on the left in the heatshield pic it looks like there is a heatshield stacked between the pod and decoupler. I would imagine that means multiple shields could be stacked if a player is planning multiple aerobraking maneuvers, or particularly energetic ones. :)

The fairings are set up like the broken solar panels are. When seperated, the fairings are not created as traditional vessel debris - this understandably means that having lots of little fairing segments breaking off isn't as much of a performance hit as it would be if they were debris.

Terrible idea. Well, there's still KW Rocketry for "standard" fairings and pFairings for custom fairings/fuselages/aeroshells, so I don't really care about this confetti crap.

VERY interesting. I was going to say that it was likely just the texture, but you can see it goes up and down along the edge of the runway.

Nice find!

Well, I still think it is the texture (that changes when you're at certain distances of the planets). I hope I'm wrong, so finally upgrading the runway won't be meaningless.

This is exactly what I was thinking. "Welp, back to pFairings..."

Once again Max repeatedly, and frustratingly, reproduces the radial-decoupler bug and refuses to acknowledge that it's an issue.

Yep.

It should have been fixed in 0.24.3.

Also this.

Wait so the thread that I started was merged with the thread by ObsessedWithKSP and now it has Obsessed's title but my text and it says I started it.

I described what I did with the merge here. I kept OWK's title because a lot of us look for the "Squadcast Summary" thread every week, and because the thread is now about more than just the pics. :)

Quoting myself, as their seems to be some renewed doubt about the decoupler ejection force bug.

Around 36:00 into SQ, after the 2nd or 3rd time his craft-of-the-day had unceremoniously self-destructed, he talks about it and said he believes it's been fixed, but wanted to check to be sure, and might let folks know with a tweet or other posting. He was really appalled over the situation and let the craft spin out of control, for all to see. If Ted checks this thread again, and could help with the question, forum readers would appreciate it :)

A quick word on the new cargo bays. Why have a support beam in the middle? That really limits the size of what you can put in it..

And don't say, for support..

I haven't watched the squadcast (that's why I look forward to OSK's efforts on the forum) but these bays have sometimes been referred to as utility bays rather than cargo bays. That is, I gather, their purpose is to contain/shield parts of the same (single) craft that would otherwise have to deal with adverse aerodynamic forces, versus cargo bays which are intend to contain separable parts that (at some point during a mission) are removed or inserted.

Right that makes sense. Thanks man.

It may have been hinted that larger ones won't have the support beam in the middle. At least that's what someone said during the squadcast.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
