Large wings lacking?

So, I was trying to recreate my fleet of SSTOs, and while it's harder now I can't be a cheating ......., it's working. However, I feel kind of 'eh' about the new wings. Yes, it's nice to finally have a few large parts, but I just don't really understand why we have these. Because of their thicker profile, they don't really mesh well with the other wings. Furthermore, since there aren't any square-ish parts, they basically only work if those wings are exactly what you need, or add multiple of them after each other, which works, but is somewhat aesthetically unpleasing.

What do you guys think?

I agree, I'm incredibly underwhelmed by the 3 wing pieces so all large planes are going to look identical. When I heard bigger wings, I thought it would be like the existing wings but larger, like what B9 has for example. So, we still have to add mods to get wings that fit Mk3 without the ugly stacking and unfortunately no such stock alike mod really exist.

And no, procedural wings is not the answer.

I have mixed feelings about procedural wings.

On one hand, these would allow players to fine tune the exact shape of their wings, but on the other hand, monolithic procedural wings make the craft less resilient to debris impact - a monolithic wing is completely destroyed in one hit, whereas with a wing built up of separate parts, there is the possibility that some parts of the wing may survive and allow the craft to limp home.

Yeah. The new wings are nice and can lift some big ships, but they aren't really the versatile b9-style (or small wing) puzzle I hoped for. Great if you need exactly that kind of wing, not so much otherwise.

Hmmmm, unless they worked similar to the new Fairings. Every section is its own part. And if something break only that section would go Poof. Of course minus the whole massless thing.

Why not just put two triangular wings together with the long sides touching? That would make a rectangle.

I tried this, but but looks off due to the curvature of the wing surface.

EDIT:

Misunderstood you. It's not possible to place them long-sides touching.

I, too, feel we need more wings. The airliner wings would work fine for MK3... If they were about two or three times bigger. The shuttle-inspired ones need to be about a third bigger just to look right on the MK3 (though I haven't studied the shuttle too closely, so maybe they're the right size, but they need a little more lift to be feasible), and we really need more large-square-wing pieces.

Also, anyone else feel that with the new landing gear, we need some plane parts that allow the construction of small, light-duty passenger planes? While I'm not complaining about the MK1 Inline's new IVA (best cockpit ever, now that you don't need mods to see out of it), it is a little underwhelming when you realize that either you've got to have multiple blister seats (Inlines) for each crewmember/VIP, or you need to step into MK2 parts, which, while they look very good, can be a pain in the bum to work with. Would be nice to have, say, a 1.8m sized 4 Kerbal cockpit, in pilot/copilot + 2 passenger style. I can wait for Firespitter to update to get my propeller fix, but I'm finding my excitement over 1.0 to be exactly where I planned: Not there.

I was expecting SP+ wings but bigger. Same geometric lego design. Then again, I was also expecting wet wings. Silly me.

Copy the whole part.cfg into itself, change the name of the part and increase some numbers?

I think procedural wings are the answer. But I don't think they will happen.

I would very much like to see this, it'd cut down on the amount of page navigation too. The wings are great but very limiting in their usage, I can't put them together into a larger wing like the small ones and have it look good(I tried)

Procedural seems the only way to go. I myself use B9 Procedural Wings and not only do they look great but they also work great with procedural amount of fuel inside them and various options for leading/trailing edges. I probably wouldn't try to build a spaceplane without them again.

I've been fairly annoyed at the new textures vs. the old wings too. The size isn't as much of an issue for me compared to the texture differences :P. You might find this interesting if you're trying to get matching wings: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/117103-SPPCC-Spaceplane-Color-Corrections-Matching-all-spaceplane-blacks-white-grays-Want-input/page2 ... :D

The new wing models look great in themselves, but they just don't work well with KSP's construction style. I prefer lego style assembly, but I must admit that procedural might be the best solution given the extreme variability required for people to be able to build what they want.

New wings suck! Nothing you do will make them fit together with any other wing part seamlessly! Bah!

Hell, the Big-S delta doesn't even fit together with the Big-S strake! Which is pretty pathetic if you ask me.
