He can't unless granted permission from the contents owner, good catch, I'll notify him of this.

Edit:

KSPRC is CC-BY-ND except for most of the heads, the suit textures and the theme, and which means that derivative works cannot be distributed, while AVP links to this:

I do not believe that Astronomer's or KSPRC is actually All Rights Reserved. Both of them link to fairly permissive licenses (CC-BY-ND for KSPRC and "Error Loading Page" for AVP), though it would be good to clear up any license questions as soon as possible.

The license link on avp page says: "all rights reserved unless otherwise stated"

If it's possible to redistribute avp stuff I would be interested since I have a couple of features I would like to add to that mod and the original author has gone awol for a while now

if those textures are licensed "All Rights Reserved" how can you re-distribute them in your mod?

- Hm... thanks for the heads up guys. I'll sadly have to remove the download link for the time being in that case. Copyright infringement is one thing I want nothing to do with. In the mean time you can use the effects from KSPRC or AVP (If you know how to install it all). Astronomer is going to be difficult to track down though. :P

Aw, heckfire. :( I had this thread tagged to try out this weekend. Hopefully the nods to use this stuff in your compilation come soon. :)

So, i rarely post here but im gonna do so, cause i think this is a important things ...

So we cannot have a mod because it use a small part of another mod that an author abandonned ? ...

all these licence thing are going overboard i think as there is at least 3 mod that do the same thing over and over again but only a few add really cool feature and yours is the only one that seem to add clouds and stuff like that. Its stupid that you have to remove a link because you could not get the approbation of someone who is dead ...

I just wanted to make my point of view that seem to be the logic here. There is already too much bureaucracy in our governement, why would a bunch of resonable person ( not in the governement ) bring that to a game to make stuff go bad or destrcuted because of a bunch of piece of paper. I mean sure the guy made an awesome mod, he quit the job, he forgot about it, and he left it to everyone to download ... if i quit and i d'ont want people to use my stuff, i remove the download link, delete my post or stuff like that. Yet they are all still up so, what is the problem in not asking a person that cannot be contacted if you can use something he discarded a few years ago ?

Darkgamer504, I'm sorry you feel our policies regarding mods and licensing are stupid, but unfortunately they are very necessary.

If the modder of an "abandoned" mod wished for people to be able to make derivative works from it they were/are free to use a license that permits it. If they license it in such a way that forbids it then we should honor those wishes. For that matter, sometimes a modder goes quiet for a long time and then returns to their project (a good recent example would be AIES). How would it be fair to have their projects taken from them when they explicitly said they didn't want that done?

Basically, it is neither fair nor right for us to appropriate the works of others just because they have stopped maintaining them. They don't belong to us, we must honor the terms under which they chose to share their work. To do otherwise would discourage modders from sharing their work in the first place, so we use licensing rules to foster an environment that makes modders happy to share.

This is ignoring the whole issue of legal liability in enabling copyright infringement by dishonoring license terms, which can get Squad and its community in a whole heap of trouble.

@Avera9eJoe:

Since it was (largely?) a compilation, any chance for a deliberate recipe that we could follow to achieve the same results? We can certainly just grab parts of Proot's and Astronomer's stuff, etc.

It's about as exciting as a paint-by-numbers, but I'd certainly like to see what you came up with just the same. ;)

Sort of... my duna texture was created by highly editing Astronomer's cloud texture, but other than that yeah you could follow a recipe. Hold your horses though I'm planning on later today creating a copyright-correct version. I have Proots permission to use the textures from the current release of KSPRC (No releases after this one though. From what he's posting you might want to just use his pack though :)) and I also have permission from the creators of Better Atmosphere's to use their cloud texture (It's already included as the "cirrus" clouds. I have other textures I can use. :)

ACP-v8 released

I have reviewed all textures and replaced all the ones that had copyright issues (All the Astronomer's Visual Pack textures). Again many thanks for the keen eyes everyone. Copyright issues are one thing I will not tolerate. :P

- If any of you know a better way to get hold of Astronomer I'd love to know it.

ACP-v8 released

Noticed something, the shadow cloud layer (cloud_main2.dds) seems not visible from orbit, or at least I could hardy distinguish it.

On inspection the texture itself is more a lighter gray than dark/black, which might explain.

I tuned up cloud_main2.dds contrast by 50% and it seemed to make the effect more noticeable.

Duely noted. I'll fix that in the next release. - Depending on how KSPRC looks at that point...

There should be lightning already included. It's quite present on Jool in my game. Is it not working for you?

I am not using your pack yet. I have just been keeping an eye on it. I didn't see any pics or info in the OP. Do you have a pic or a video of the lightning? Also is it on Kerbin too? What other bodies have lightning?

Keep up the good work mate!

Aahhh okay. Lightning is present on All planets with a stock atmosphere so Kerbin, Laythe, Jool, Duna, and EVE. You can see a few glimpses of lightning on Jool in the Stock-ACP-v7 comparisons album. See this pic. Lightning is still a half-mystery to me to code, but it's basically a cloud texture that spins quickly around the planet, and it has a detail texture that spins in a different direction as well. Where both the detail texture and the cloud texture line up, there is lightning. Hm... I should definitely make a second promo vid...

Ok, so it's only visible from orbit? Is there fork lightning on the surface?

Sadly no. Not possible with old EVE. I'm not sure if it is doable in WIP EVE either but it could be something to ask Rbray about. There was talk about tornadoes a while ago but I haven't heard anything about that recently either.

I know one version had dust storms on Duna. I think sandstorms in the Kerbin Deserts would be cool. And snowstorms at the poles would be cool too.

Agreed and agreed... The annoying part is that I wouldn't be able to get dust storms to only appear in the desert. They would circle the globe unless done in a special way. Snowstorms could easily be doable though. Adding to my to-do list.

Hey man. Is it possible to have environmental sounds on Kerbin? Say strong winds on the open flat snow areas and maybe seashore sounds at the land edges and a sound for when at sea. This would be amazing.
