"Eve: Order Zero" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (POSTLUDE COMPLETE...bet you didn't see THAT coming.)

IMO all manned compartments of a ship (or docked ships) become quantum entangled. A Kerbal in a Mk 1 cockpit at one end of the ship is at the same time potentially inside a Hitchhiker Module in the middle of the ship. Shifting the probabilities between modules is a free action on demand :)

I hadn't considered the quantum entanglement angle. Makes a lot of sense. Must be built into their pod technology.

And since the science data is already a measurement, it won't entangle and you have to carry it to the other pod manually. Makes perfect sense. :D

Happy landings!

Sounds like what had Val so upset was not part of 'the plan' but special instructions from Mort.

I wonder if this will lead to Mort being voted out as chairman/CEO when it becomes known that he clapped Jeb and Bill in irons for their daring rescue.

Well, I'm definitely curious to see what the Kerbfleet 'Justice System' looks like.

It's going to look pretty much like the American justice system looks on TV and in film. Working title of the trial scene: "A Few Good Kerbs".

Sounds like what had Val so upset was not part of 'the plan' but special instructions from Mort.
The fact that Jeb "remembers" it make me think that it's still part of the plan, maybe. :P

Also, I knew it! :D

Turning off "the author is dead" mode for a moment, since it'll be a bit before this gets clarified in the comic... Bill's plan ended the moment they achieved orbit. He really had no thought beyond that, except that he was willing to risk any consequence to save his friend. Val is a serious Kerbfleet officer who knows her duty. Regardless of the successful outcome (and awesomeness!) of the rescue, there wouldn't be a shred of discipline left to the Fleet if the way they carried it out was not formally examined.

They should get Kenlie as their defense attorney. Martystu FTW!

Well, they've already retained counsel. Using Kenlie as an attorney would be problematic, since he's going to be called as a witness for several of the charges pertaining to the taking of the Kranefly.

Who needs a court martial when Jeb can fire rockets at the admin building?

Now, now, now, these guys are a lot of things, but they are never violent. You must be imagining some kind of... mirror universe Jeb.

This is gonna be awesome! I really want to see how this turns out. And major props to you, Kuzzter, for the Eve ascent ship. Never been there- too scared to try.

Thanks! I want to see how it turns out, too. :D Eve is maybe a little easier to get up, and a lot harder to get down, than it was in 0.90. I think it'd be a real challenge to do it without surface refueling.

That action shot of Jeb... The majesty burned my eyes more than 10% Hydrazine..

Again, props to the fantastic Parkaboy for teaching me how to do that, and to the creator of Free IVA for making it possible.

I really enjoy how the story could stand alone without the graphics, and how the graphics enhance the story rather than drive it.

Of course, that means you'll never make in in Hollywood.

Aside the dramatic story, Epic Kerbal Engineering on the M7, an idol of stockgame construction for purpose, 10/10!

@I am still eagerly thinking all day about a contribute to your work here, its not easy to make a adequat decision which is "reasonable" in any "kerbal" sense...

Got some more time this WE, have to re-read your story first... maybe this helps:)

Wouldn't it have cost less fuel if you did a gravity turn a heck of a lot sooner than a third of the way through eves atmosphere?

Quite possibly, but there are two factors here: (1) the density of Eve's atmosphere--I wanted to get out of the area of max resistance and heating as quickly as possible. Drag is of course enormous here, and there is a real risk of burning up. FYI the first simtest ended with the Mk1 cockpit exploding due to overheating, at about 10km. (2) stability--call it poor design if you want, but in simtesting I Bill found myself himself unable to control the ship in a lower turn. In fact, it started to flip even doing the turn at 30km--but the air was thin enough I could get back on track.

The careful reader will note I lampshaded this with Bob's comments in the pre-flight checklist :)

I've also been asked why I didn't asparagus-stage. The answer is pretty simple: I had always intended to. I simtested a prototype with simple staging, thinking I would just see how short I was and then know what other changes I had to make. When the prototype blasted to orbit from sea level with 400 m/s to spare, I decided to just go with what I had. I guess that's also the answer to why I didn't spend more time on the ascent profile :)

Lastly, the design requirement to SSTO from Kerbin came into play. The ship actually had less margin doing that than it did getting to Eve orbit...so I took the first solution that worked for both ascents, went with it, and got back to writing the comic. :)

Remember, everyone - Jeb is Air Service and Bob is Space Service IIRC, so they're getting a Kerbfleet (kind of military) court-martial.

So Mister Civilian Administrator Mort has absolutely no say in the result of said CM.

With that hope spot established, happy landings! :)

There is only one piece of music in existence badass enough to accompany this great chapter.

I'll admit, I wanted the soundtrack to be "Magic Carpet Ride"-- but as soon as the M7 lifted off this was what I was humming. Same on the descent--must be something about the flames and ponderously heavy atmosphere that invariably drives the mind to Wagner. :)
