Well, for one, since we're discussing the thread and how it's been done before, this is technically off-topic, and that seems to be a good enough reason some days.

Aside from that, at some point, someone will start discussion about A vs. B, and then other people will complain about people complaining, etc. and onwards unto the mods and their powers of locking.

I agree. It would be nice to be able to see data to better understand the diversity of the KSP community. What I'm also interested in is age demographics. I honestly believe that it would be an eye opener for Squad...

Yeah, and those that do are usually the immature ones, looking for some way to leave their mark on the world. Ideally, we should all live in a world where there is nothing offensive around, but it was called Utopia by fiction writers in the twilight years of the Nineteenth Century and early Twentieth Century. If you live long enough you will surely get offended; the question becomes how to best deal with the offense - do we absorb it, but continue in forum fellowship or do we set out to destroy the forum for the sake of "being right..." and ridding ourselves of what offended us.

When my grandfather was alive, and we had the BIG THREE networks (pre-cable TV days), he would always say that if you didn't like what was on the channel, turn the knob... that's what it's there for. We need more channel turners (I was going to say knob turners, but thought better of it) and less people that complain.

Old data, but I think we might still be seeing similar percentages in the male/female ratio.

It doesn't really matter who they are, or why.  Simply put, they will come, they will post, the thread will be locked.  It's happened many times before, and will probably continue to happen many times after.

I kid, I kid. :P But I have a hunch the majority of players are male (though I also know a surprising number of female players). Perhaps it's due to the fact that most female players don't seem to use the forum. :)

The reason for that is the last time someone had an "other" option, half the people declared that they identified as some random object.
