What have you done around the island airfield.

So most Ksp players have landed at the island airfield before but some do some things there that are not just landing. Share things you have done at the island airfield. Even small scale things like marooning some kerbals there. Right now I'm trying to make an airport there because I got a new rig and I can make bigger stuff now. Landed a plane and a tug and some trash there. The plane is beside the hangar just sitting there. The tug cannot attack to it (Klaws SUCK) but the plane can take off without getting tugged. So share your island airfield operations here.

Umm.. well, I've crashed there, drove around the hangars, climbed a kerbal to the top of the control tower, planted some flags and a few other things.

I suppose the most notable was landing a plane there, then dropping a missile on it from orbit.

I've crashed at it a lot. I'm really bad at precisely landing planes. The wide open space of KSC is fine, but the island, not so much.

I did a chapter for my fan-fiction project a few days ago that involved the island airstrip. 
Here's a highlight, for your amusement:

I've used it as a backup landing strip.  My Kerbals know it as the island of death...

Hehe, yes probably if you sign up to fly in a mk3 aircraft there then you probably don't have enough explosions. For a mk3 plane it's suicide. But its a very manageable place to land if you have a tug to pull it to the hangar

Also it's the only peice for flat land in a 30 km radius so if you are gliding after running out of fuel trying to reach it overshooting means either a splashdown or death

Yeah, take off from the airfield, fly straight out over the ocean for a bit, then look a bit to the right.

It's not an easy place to land imo.

Funnest thing I ever did on the Island was have jeb climb all the way up to the top of the tower via the stairs, then I used Val to fly a VTOL plane over from the KSC and hover right beside the tower, then Jeb jumped from the tower to the VTOL and boarded it!

Wish I had the pics but that laptop died.

Here you have become a victim of the quantum state in between controlled and uncontrolled. This is why this has to be fixed

Agent K. was on a reconnaissance mission to the Marachnie Islands (More commonly known as the Island Runway), when a radar detected his position. A missile flew into the air, and hit is wing. Unable to land on the strip for fear of being shot, he swerved and made a crash landing on the other side of the mountain on the main island, the craft being mostly destroyed and completely inoperable. Agent K., already presumed dead by most, hid out for about 3 days until making a move. Walking quietly in the dead of night, he made is way over to the military base, and snuck through its low-par security. Only a few guards were around, and after only 5 minutes he had snuck past them all and found himself in a hanger with a fueled and ready to go aircraft, set that way to be ready the next time if more fighters came after his recent incident. Breaking the glass, he started the plane, taking off on the runway. The very first thing he did when he was off the ground is target the AA missile defense and launch all of his missiles at them, taking out any chance of downing him. Flying away at top speed, Agent K. landed back to the KSC.

Oh, lots of fun stuff.

Used it for testing my crafts' landing capabillity, testing ways to vector myself to the landing strip, doing science, and most notably, having Bob jump off from a high altitude plane and land on the tower with EVA chutes. Also known as skydiving.

Agreed! I don't consider any plane a success until it lands and takes off successfully from the island airfield. It's a fantastic shake down run for any new bird.

Exactly this

It's close enough to not take long to get there, but far enough to be worth flying to.  It can be challenging to land on, because the runway is short and narrow.  And the control tower jumps out in front of you just for a laugh.
