How did you come to get your screen name?

"Jet Jaguar" was a giant, flying, Ultraman-like robot from the movie Godzilla vs. Megalon. I first started using it as a screen name on the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Usenet newsgroups back in the mid-90's. I then started using it in other places online so people I knew from the RATM groups would recognize me, and it (or some variation) has been my standard online handle ever since. I also always use the same avatar icon. Makes it easy when scrolling through threads to find my posts, then I know anything below that is new.

BTW, when I first signed up for this board, I thought it was time for a change so I originally used "HotJupiter". But then I discovered a Youtuber with a KSP video series using that name, so I had it changed to my old standard to avoid confusion - didn't want anyone to think I was them.

I don't know. I literally don't know.

I was making an account for another forum 3-2 years ago and I chose this for no reason. I liked it and kept it.

Actually, I remembered a bit, my original plan was to use "windows-seven" as my username, but it was already taken, so I typed in "windows_x_seven". It went well.

Some of you may know Walt Disneys "Mickey Mouse" Comics, well here in finland he is named "Mikki Hiiri"... Many people call me sometimes Mikki, its quiet close to my RL name.

And i like cats as well...

SaturnianBlue... I've been rather fascinated with Saturn for a long time, and since Saturn has blue skies, I settled on this, though I have gone with Discovery or something of the sort, probably involving the space shuttle, and just I guess discovering things is cool :P (On reddit this is the case)

KM are my initials, and Mango is both my favorite fruit and the name of one of my cats (orange and fuzzy). I am terrible at coming up with usernames, as they all sound either stupid or too serious to me.

I use this for many accounts to avoid having to be creative. I came up with it a few years ago by literally looking around the room and slapping my initials on the first non-stupid sounding object I saw, which happened to be the aforementioned cat.

It started in EVE-Online (2004-ish). I created a character named Vala Draaken.

Before that (Need for Speed, Counter Strike and other multiplayer games) I'd used Mr.Heat (lame, I know)

Then I moved to WoW. Vala was taken so I became Valania.

I kept that name, when I moved to Champions Online.

I was also originally using Valania when I moved to SWTOR, but after a server merge I became Val'ania.

On voice coms I was called Val, so all my alts after that were named something that starts with Val, for consistency.

So that's how I ended up with Val in KSP.

I like my gaming identity, Val Draaken. It's unique enough that I'm googleable and most of the first page results are actually me.

Belphegor (orBeelphegor, Hebrew: בַּעַל-פְּעוֹר‎ baÊ¿al-pəʿÅÂr - Lord of the Gap) is a demon, and one of the seven princes of Hell, who helps people make discoveries. ... Belphegor is the chief demon of the deadly sin known as Sloth in Christian tradition.[2]

... associated with licentiousness and orgies. he was worshipped in the form of a phallus.

I thought it was from star trek! "Val... He hungers! He needs his people!"

Majorjim was a super badass dude myself and my step brother (Now a Director) made up for short films. When I say short films it may conjure up images of black and white art house, beautifully shot cinema. Nope. These videos are both disturbing and hilarious. I still have the old 8mm camcorder tapes!

Anywhoo.. When I first started playing online FPS games it was the first thing I thought of, now I am Majorjim.

"Fearless Son" is a handle I have had for over a decade and a half now. It is based on my surname, "Ferguson", which in ye olde English means "Son of Fearless", or more literally "Fearless Son".

I picked it in part because it was not based on any transient interest of mine, something I would not feel bad associating with my online identity years later, and in part because it sounded kind of badass without sounding too much like a braggart. I could use it in online games without shame or setting myself up for anything.

I worked a restaurant many moons ago and I had a regular customer who called me Mack. He was a kindly old man with nothing but pleasant things to say, so I didn't correct him. Others would stare at him confused when he called me Mack and smirked at this old man who obviously either did not hear or remember very well, probably both given his appearance. This went on for some time.

One evening I must have had an off day and for some mundane reason decided I to correct him, once and for all.

"It's Matt. My name is MaTT", with the emphasis on the "t". He was mortified and dumbfounded. His abashed look let me know that I had gone too far and that in my haste and conceit, I had hurt his pride. He was silent for a bit and left with an apology. "Sorry Match, I did not realize..."

I had obviously overstressed the last consonant. I never corrected him again.

Years later, I was introduced to his younger brother, a teacher at the local high school. His older brother had passed away the year before and we recounted old "war stories". I told him of his brother's continued butchering of my name and asked if he had a hearing problem or something. He chuckled at that, "No, he just liked messing with folks like that, that's all."

Now it was my turn to look abashed. My shock turned to mirth and we tilted a beer in his brother's name.

Here's to you once again, Mr. Mickens, I hope to meet you where the stars part from the sky one day. Until then, call me match. (you old goat!)
