1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2...where/ how to get?

Stupid questions but I can't seem to find the answers...

I purchased KSP 1.0, is KSP 1.1 a free upgrade or do I have to purchase it?

Where do I get 1.1 and the 2 patches? I can't seem to find out where to get them. I go to the "store" but all I see is KSP (no version number is listed).

While I'm at it, do mods created for 1.1 need updating to work with 1.1.2?

Thanks!

Go to the store, and go to the download.  You will be able to download the latest version

Found it! I installed 1.0.5 from the ZIP...can I use the installer this time or will that create issues? I also found the correct FAQ for updating and installing...it mentions "Patcher.exe"...I do not have this in my KSP 1.0.5 install nor is it in the 1.0.5 ZIP?

The download link for 1.1.2 is in the store.  The patcher isn't the most reliable.

Get the new .zip as well; building a collection of past versions is part of being in the KSP community *grin*.  Similarly, most of us have several installs of the same or different versions.  That way you can have games with different sets of mods and keep your old 'ambitious' several-game-years mission-to-everywhere going as long as you like.

The patcher seemed to work to go from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1. After using it to patch to 1.1.2, CKAN thought it was looking at 1.0.5

Just go to the store, and click on "Download" where it says you bought KSP. Then download the version you want. Don't bother with the installer, it works about as well as the patcher. Unzip it to the folder of your choice, then copy over any save folders you want from the "saves" folder, as well as any mods from the "gamedata" folder (warning, they may not work properly with the new version, you may need to download the latest version of the mod)). I, along with many others, like to use CKAN to manage mods, it makes it so much easier.

Just to be sure...my mods I know need to be updated to the 1.1.2 versions so I will just move them out of the game folder. If I understand I should copy my "saves" folder somewhere, install the latest KSP version, then copy my saves folder to the new install. Does that sound about right?

Thanks as always gang.

Thats correct and what I do with my saves. Be aware though that sometimes not all craft will work. I had a lander in 1.0.5 that would not load in 1.1.2 simply due to a ladder! An easy fix, I just removed the ladder and resaved. For this reason I always back up my craft folders too.

One thing I'm not seeing...where is my experience, funds and science saved? I really don't want to start all over in my career mode.

If you have copied your saves over the experience, funds and science should still be the same when you open your save.

I usually just download the latest version and then copy the clean install in a dedicated KSP hard drive.  I'm not sure how to get previous versions but I believe both steam and KSP store will allow you to go back one or two versions.

As for mods, some of them will work properly between versions and some need to be updated for ever version including hotfixes(IE 1.0.1-1.0.2, 1.0.3-1.0.4-1.0.5, 1.1-1.1.1-1.1.2).  Usually if you look in the mods thread, it will tell you in the OP or last few posts if it's been updated to the newest Version

If I hear you correctly, you copy the new install over your previous version?

I have a new install of 1.1.2 installed in a new folder, copied over my "saves" from the previous version and added updated mods (KER, KIS and KAS). Everything appears to be working except I have lost all my "accomplishments" (first Kerbal in orbit, etc.) and none of my completed contracts are listed anymore?

I'm wondering if copying the 1.1.2 files into the 1.0.5 versions folder, overwriting files, wouldn't leave my old saves, accomplishments and completed contracts intact?

OK...it's not "obvious" when looking through my saves files...unless it's written in the .sfs files.

Thanks all.

A folder in the 'saves' folder is a save. In it will be several .sfs files, those are your actual saves. persistence.sfs or whatever its called is the actual save, and usually you'll have at least one quick save... are there auto saves? I don't remember. Also in that folder will be SPH and VAB folders for your craft files.

I usually make a new folder to extract the zip into, then you can just copy your save folder (funds, sci, and rep are written into the .sfs file) directly over. In my C: drive I have folders for "KSP 90," "KSP 104," "KSP 105," and "KSP 1_1." Backed up on my external drive I have such folders as "KSP 235," "KSP 24," and "KSP 25."

This way, if there's a (mod) part the new version doesn't like, you can go into the old version and remove it.

After making a copy of my old save, I completely delete it and then download the new version.

I personally don't trust save game compatibility between versions so I start fresh each and every time

OK...at this stage the only thing I'm still not seeing after upgrading, is my old completed contracts and "accomplishments". These do not reside in the saved folder, apparently? It's not like I lost funds or experience...they just don't show up in the completed contracts drop down menu...it's empty.

Hi, is there a way to downgrade KSP version 1.1.3 to 1.1.2 on Steam? As I'm experiencing technical issues with the KSP 64k mods that work on 1.1.2.

Thanks

Sadly...no. Well not to my knowledge. I also had important mods that broke with the update but unless you were disconnected from the internet when the update was released, everyone should be on 1.1.3.

You probably edited your save file while rummaging around in your KSP directory. But it shouldn't matter anyway, the completed contracts don't do anything.
