What was the Red/Green Iron Crown War?

I'm less than a year on the forums, so I have no idea what this "war" is, but a lot of forumers have talked about it. Could someone enlighten me?

I've heard the Green Iron crown was a test by the moderators or something to test negative rep, and someone made a game to keep the rep positive.

What Spaceception said is pretty accurate AFAIK.

Some time ago (a few years ago actually, around 2012 IIRC), you could give negative reputation just like positive rep*. Moderators wanted to try and see if it was possible for a user to have negative rep, thus the infamous Green Iron Crown was born.

While just a test at first, forum users somehow went on a "war" (more like a game) over that, with people giving positive rep to GIC and other giving negative rep. As with every subject that gets out of hand, moderators put an end to this by deleting the GIC account and removing the possibility to give negative rep.

(I wasn't there at the time so these are things I read but not lived.)

 

* Remember that before the forums migration, giving rep was different: instead of just a like, giving rep gave up to 5 rep points (depending on your post count and stuff) and you could write a message along it; so it was much more personal and a bit less common than just giving a like when reading something you like (at least from my POV)

Kinda, except worse (number war is still there). I guess it was because it was getting a bit everywhere in the forums whereas the other games are confined inside the Forum Games sections.

Ah, so more like the pointless Dres/Kraken thing.  I've no idea how those people got in their minds that people who don't like Dres must worship the Kraken. It's annoying.

Nope, number war was one of the game I thought up years ago on another forum. The rules back then was a mess and it died quickly. I refine it later on another forum, but people there were not quite interested with numbers. Eventually it ends up here, where I can actually test and improve it and be what it is like now.
