Thanks for the update! It turns out that releases work better if you put the *new* files in them... The correct release is now available.

Yes.  Very dark and sinister.

It's a video setting that will have impact on game performance, especially on older less video-capable computers.  Try the stock setting both ways as well as this mod and judge it on how it looks and how it appears to perform.

While this adds an amazing effect to the game, this was the mod that did me in and managed to crash the game for me. I managed to eat through 32GB of ram enabling this mod where the previous 111 mods only usually sits around 10-11GB. I am just gonna guess that maybe there is a memory issue related to the particles effects being enabled and that's why squad leaves it disabled.. just a guess, and I really wish I could continue using it. maybe in an iteration or two ill revisit using it again.

Or, you can post your logs so maybe some one can figure out what happend. What's the point in your comment if you aren't going to provide at least logs? Unless you don't want help, then your comment was even more pointless. Having over 100 mods is asking for problems. I wouldn't be so adamant about any single mod being the one that caused a crash. Kind of weird that nobody else has experienced any memory leak with this mod, so I highly suspect that this isn't the mod that caused the issue. Please bring something productive to the thread, like logs, or some other bit of evidence, instead of a pointed finger and a bit of guess work, and help us help you. Who knows, maybe you did expose a bug, but nobody will know without effort on your side.

Completely agree (though not so much about the "asking for problems thing":P).. Reentry Particle Effect is one of 148 mods (and 20 MM patches!) I have installed, in a 16GB system, with zero memory/crash issues even after running for hours.. Something else is going on. It may have been some other mod that was recently updated. But without logs, there's no way to know what's going wrong.

I also have 190 mods running relatively stable for that amount. I only had 2 huge memory leaks in the last time.

One is caused by "Docking camera KURS 1.7" which add +700MB memory allocation each time the flight scene loads. Also on reloading a save/quicksave.
The other was the new scatterer v0.300 update in combination with old scatterer-CFGs (for example from stock visual enhancements, before it was updated) that were missing "mainSunCelestialBody = Sun" in the planetsList.cfg for EACH item, which is needed for scatterer v0.300. If that was missing cause old CFGs were used, it was throwing NREs and the memory allocation continued to rise like a Saturn V until the PC died by swapping.

BTW I also use Reentry Particle Effect in the 190 mods install and have no problems with that.

you're right, 100+ mods isn't necessarily a problem for those who know how to troubleshoot and have a basic idea of how everything works. What I was getting at is the more mods you have, the more risk you are taking that something could go wrong. I'm sure that is something everyone can agree with. When I play, I'm also at roughly 100 mods without issue and it can be stable but I don't know a single player who hasn't had compatibility issues at some point between mods. i just get annoyed by people who don't take the time to do simple troubleshooting (removing and adding your mod list bit by bit for example) and immediately like to complain to modders, and don't do anything proactive to solve the issue.

Definitely agree. I also picked the mods on the 190 mods install very carefully and avoided to use mods that change very basic things or things deep in the system. Like for example Kerbalism, Kopernikus and another one I just forgot.

Well if the crash happens during reentry after adding the mod to my list and then when removing mods remove the most recently added first then reload and are able to reenter no problem then the simple assumption would be that this mod was the culprit, you are correct though that it might have been helpful of me to be a little more specific in why I came to the conclusion it was this mod that didn't like my setup and it would have been helpful of me to post the error log it was an oversight after a long day of work. You are also correct that sometimes mods don't play well together. Sorry if I offended you by sharing an anecdotal observation that I had last month and a thought on why squad might choose to leave it disabled. I don't normally post on these boards maybe ill just go back to not saying anything rather than contribute to the community in even the slightest... or you know you could have just suggested posting the crash log and not gotten so condescending about it. Sometimes people are just tired and forget things that might make sense and be helpful along with a post.

I tend to do the opposite of you and beyond looking at what a developer specifically lists as incompatible with their mod like to be liberal with the mods I try. I like to switch up mods every two or three weeks clear them all out refresh my ksp install and pick my base mod list plus anything that's recently updated or that sounds interesting. There are so many amazing developers working on mods that I like to give as many of them a try as possible although like you I avoid some that make drastic changes unless I try them stand alone in a separate install. If ksp has recently been updated I like to fork some of the repositories on git and poke around in them see if I can fix anything until the regular dev gets around to it and overall just admire their work. It was really fun when the last Unity update was integrated and entire reference paths changed that some of the mods relied on like for example the previously mentioned scatterer bug with the sun that impacted a number of mods despite only showing as uncaught errors in many of them due to the mod not actually caring about the sun, I learned a decent amount about the structure of KSP, the mods and Unity, however I don't always have time for that due to my obligations in life so I have never tried to actually contribute to the conversation until recently.
