Ignath
I just found a link to Elon Musk's Mars colonization vision paper published in New Space online journal: http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/space.2017.29009.emu It can be accessed for free up until July 5th. Enjoy!

It's just a theoretical concept, but the materials to make a functional heat resistant system do not exist yet. The HIAD project is a decelerator. It acts more like a semi-rigid parachute than a heat shield.

The fire department gets grumpy if you create an enormous fire and possibility of a bigger explosion a little outside of the scheduled time? I see the point, but I don't think "window" is the right word.

StupidAndy
is the booster going to land? Wikipedia said a few days ago it won't but now it says it will who is right? or did I read it wrong again?

I expect it will, from what I hear BulgariaSat is very light for a commsat, should be a simple droneship landing.

Simple as opposed to "roaring in at the edge of the envelope and nearly out of fuel" as a much heavier launch would be.
tater
OCISLY is at sea heading to the landing zone I think. It's a landing at sea mission.
NSEP
Sorry for the dumb question, but i somewhere heard that the Falcon Heavy can only carry 10 tons to orbit because of structural things, bit since it is more powerfull it can also carry 10 tons to GTO and Mars. Is this true or is the internet confusing me?
tater
Who knows... there is what they say they can put in LEO/GTO/etc, and there is what they actually have. The latter we can be sure of, at least.

Is this true or is the internet confusing me? The payload adapter on the Falcon 9 is only strong enough for 10 tons. Therefore, of the same payload adapter is used on the Falcon Heavy, it'll only be able to carry 10 tons to orbit.
kerbiloid
And what about tank walls? Are they too thin for trifalcon payload or too thick for monofalcon?

As I understand heavy get another adapter who can handle more. second stage maximum load might still be an issue for an expendable falcon heavy however none so heavy payloads are planned. Wikipedia says it can bring a 16 ton payload to Mars. So yeah, it can in fact carry 10 tons, and if the adapter is changed, it can carry more. 35 minutes ago, TheEpicSquared said: The payload adapter on the Falcon 9 is only strong enough for 10 tons. The upgraded payload adapter they'll be building for FH will be theoretically able to take up to 65 tonnes or so, but that might be pushing the structural limits of the upper stage. CatastrophicFailure
Elon & his drones, boy I tell yah! Looks like there's a recovered booster with its engines removed in there, wonder what the story is there.
Rakaydos
Isnt the 10 ton limit a horizontal integration limit? The payload adapter can only handle 10 tons of shear force, but can push more than that in line at whatever acceleration the falon needs?
