Spaceception
I think I see the exhaust trail outside, not sure though. Hey, I can see my house from here!! From the camera on the 2nd stage I mean
cubinator
What's the stuff that came off the stage 2 engine after ignition?

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but there is a ring of stuff at the base of the nozzle (not sure of the purpose) that falls off that I've noticed before. Also, you're above 3000 rep!

Could be some soft stuff to protect the fragile bell from launch vibrations. 2 minutes ago, Ultimate Steve said: Also, you're above 3000 rep! I saw that! Also, do you think that when Crew Dragon is operational they'll show the crew portraits in the bottom right?
CatastrophicFailure
Aaaaaand of course, this time I missed it. Curse you, Seattle traffic!!! I would have said that anyway today, but still.

YNM
Wait, are you saying SpaceX just launched something when I also just woke up ? Will they keep the technical webcast ? The usual one is too often too noisy.

IncongruousGoat
1 minute ago, cubinator said: Could be some soft stuff to protect the fragile bell from launch vibrations. The ring is there to hold the engine bell's shape. The bell extension doesn't actually have any structural reinforcement-it's just a flimsy sheet of metal. When the engine is firing, the bell is held in shape by the pressure of the expanding exhaust gas, and when the rocket is coasting in orbit there aren't any external forces to warp the bell. On the pad and during launch, however, the bell undergoes a lot of external forces. Hence the ring, to stiffen the bottom edge and hold the nozzle shape together. It just doesn't get physics outside that range. The booster was on rails until it crashed.
