Nothing to see here Nothing at all That's the message for after it reaches orbit, when it will "fail" to separate somehow and absolutely reenter the atmosphere a couple days later. Either case, don't look there!

When the schedule says launch, they launch, whether there is a payload there or not. The customer can catch a later launch if they want to go to space so badly. I guess they'll do that when they earn more revenue from selling ads for the launch livestream than from the launch itself.

cubinator
I think putting the flaps as far forward as possible makes perfect sense. A longer lever arm means a larger moment to transition our Martian explorers to "pointy end up" at just the right time.

We know that they will be slightly smaller and further back but I’m not sure about placement otherwise.

I'm guessing that the flaps are largely useless in the Martian atmosphere for that right up to when things get exciting... Which probably means 'too late'. JoeSchmuckatelli
@cubinator - a couple of months ago someone worked the numbers for terminal velocity on Mars - and it was fast.

An empty tanker might enter with the nose flaps all the way retracted, while a crewed ship entering with heavy nose windows might have the flaps fully extended, to get the same entry profile.
