Shhhh.  There is no spacecraft.

Nothing to see here

Nothing

all

That's the message for after it reaches orbit, when it will "fail" to separate somehow and absolutely reenter the atmosphere a couple days later. Either case, don't look there!

Customer focused - if the customer wants to wait - okay, the ship will be ready when they are ready

For the benefits of spaceflight fans, they should change their business model to that of city buses. When the schedule says launch, they launch, whether there is a payload there or not. The customer can catch a later launch if they want to go to space so badly.

"We're going to launch this starship right now"
"But sir, it is completely empty"
"Just do it."

I guess they'll do that when they earn more revenue from selling ads for the launch livestream than from the launch itself.

This was the futuristic looking STS-1:

But the white paint took up a considerable portion of the payload, so it became the ugly orange tank we all know and either love or hate

Ah, okay! Thanks for the explaination!

Why can't they just keep the flaps as is!

Because they've found a way to make the flaps better at their job, namely flipping the ship.

Keep in mind this is only a fan render; we don’t know whether this is actually what they will look like. We know that they will be slightly smaller and further back but I’m not sure about placement otherwise.

I think putting the flaps as far forward as possible makes perfect sense. A longer lever arm means a larger moment to transition our Martian explorers to "pointy end up" at just the right time.

I'm guessing that the flaps are largely useless in the Martian atmosphere for that right up to when things get exciting...

Which probably means 'too late'.

The flaps are actually about balancing during hypersonic entry, with different payloads.

An empty tanker might enter with the nose flaps all the way retracted, while a crewed ship entering with heavy nose windows might have the flaps fully extended, to get the same entry profile.

Obvious problem is that the success rate get high, its get as boring as falcon 9 first stage landings. This is obviously an good thing for everything but the number of views

Maybe they can use their excess payload to drop a secondary experimental re-entry vehicle to keep things SPICY.
