mikegarrison
Divorce has been expensive for Jeff Bezos. He now only holds 12% of Amazon shares, worth $102 billion. I guess if he's going to keep funneling about a billion per year into Blue Origin, he can only keep that up for another century.

Mr. Peabody
@Vanamonde, I think it's high time that we remove the "new, replacing lost thread" from the title. No one about has seen the old thread recently, indeed I didn't even recognize it's existence. This is what too much Blackadder will do to a fellow... Guest
Blue don’t look likely =/ and fair enough... I’m sure it sucks for them but they haven’t got a rocket let alone a track record.
.50calBMG
Guess they should have been either a bit less graditum, or a bit more open about what they actually have at the moment.
mikegarrison
Filing a protest after losing the competition is almost standard business practice. Filing one before the competition is a riskier strategy. More common to simply pull out of the competition entirely if they think it is stacked against them. mikegarrison
I wonder just how big the demand really is for putting a 10 kg box into freefall for a few minutes.

Yeah, it's kind of bizarre, frankly. I suppose there must be something to test for such a short period of time. I would have thought most suborbital science was about sampling the atmosphere at various altitudes at the upper reaches of it.

And why those few minutes have to be continuous and you can't just throw it in the hold of the vomit comet (perhaps in a cabinet or something). My first guess is that you want to test fluid systems and yes suborbital rockets are used to test systems. Guess the vomit comet is to short for it to stabilize this. Looks like they are doing decent business with it. Then they start doing manned flight they can even add payload specialists. And yes this is adds some obvious pork, I realy need to fly with the experiment to be able to correct if something don't go as planned. For now it only has to be cheaper than Virgin. We probably have to wait for competitors to pop up before the price actually starts to drop to middle-class vacation range. Also at 6 seats per flight you're going to have tremendously long wait times until they get in the groove of things.
