I don't think so. From what I've heard from other people on the forum, the only people who can change from KSP store to Steam are those who bought the game before it was available on Steam.

That is stupid. I don't have any other words to describe that.(I do, but I would probably get banned immediately if I said them.)

Know that it's isn't anybodys fault. Steam is a company under it's own name selling their respective copies for their own profit. It's basically a marketing deal.

You wan't ksp from Squad right from their website, fine! Go ahead.
Now you want it from Steam, I'm sorry bro, hey, it's not me making this up. You want the Steam edition, you'll have to pay Steam for it. They don't give a rats bottom if you've already paid it directly from Squad. They have a offer that makes them money, and your only going to get the offer unless you pay them.

This makes me ask, who are you going to get angry upon? Steam or Squad?

That said however, I also don't like how this works. You essentially paid for a product. Now you need to pay a 2nd time for one, two or three specific services Steam adds as a topping?
I can see your frustration. This is the market for you. At best and worst (whatever angle your view it from imho) you should only pay a buck or two for the steam services that the toppings provide. Seems fair I bet. Maybe illitage towards a process that proves your the owner of a specific product that deserves any and all additiions, you might win (unlikely)

I wish you all the best and hope you can satisfy yourself concerning the circumstances. Do know that you can always still re-download the whole package from the KSP site and be a little later to the updates compared to the rest. I don't think you'll fall behind much though. Most people who get the newest steam updates are mostly testing all the new services ksp has to offer. I also don't have the game on Steam so I satisfy myself by watching the newest videos or update change logs of the newer version to educate myself on all the changes other friendly people will narrate for me on youtube.

Yeah, but this stupidity still makes me mad. Not quite as bad as Xbox's play anywhere only available with digital, but still annoying.

Actually, the KSP store updates at the same time as Steam, and you can now download small patches instead of having to download the entire game from scratch each time there is an update.

To be honest, @JJ2478, the best advice Steam users of this game will receive is to immediately make a copy of their game so as to play from a folder completely detached from Steam in order to prevent the automatic updates. So many people have problems because Steam updates the game automatically, meaning that crowds of people suddenly can't play their save anymore because their favourite mods are now incompatible until they have also all updated.

So basically, you're not missing out on a lot for being unable to transfer your game to Steam.

It's no different than buying a game from the Xbox store, then getting a Playstation and wanting it on there.  You can't convert an Xbox purchase to a Playstation purchase...

Nope, not even close. Those are 2 different platforms. These are the same platform, just different methods.

@Deddly Ah ok! I've always been a few days to late to the actual release date. Guess that's why I didn't know.

@JJ2478Point still applies, your not missing on great things as the user above confirms. Backing up your folders in Steam is one of those probable forgetful things when having it on Steam. Point is, you'll have your other founded complaints having the game on Steam just as you have right now. You have to pay for a playstation game just as you have to pay for a xbox game (sony or Microsoft) just as you have the choice between gog, ksp or steam. You already decided some time ago. Each version is with it's own drawbacks. At best you can buy the specific version having the right set of additional services you'd like most. Beyond that, there isn't much else to choose from.

But you're still purchasing them from different companies.  You're expecting company B to supply and support a product when you gave your money to company A.

I found the official answer in the FAQ:

I bought the game on the KSP Store, but I want it on Steam. Will you give me a steam key?
In general no. The option to transfer KSP Store licenses to Steam is only available for those who bought KSP before it originally came out on Steam, March 20th 2013. Note that if you do qualify for a transfer and choose to do it, the process is OPTIONAL and IRREVERSIBLE. If you transfer your purchase to Steam, you will no longer be able to download or update the game from the KSP Store. To move to Steam, log in to your KSP Store profile and you will find the button to start the process next to your download link. If you can’t see the button in your profile it means you purchased the game after it was on Steam and you are not eligible, no exceptions, please don’t insist.
