Pleborian
meh, well maybe you will find a use for the mini's that are coming in the next patch, they will make great separation motors and hopefully stop things from knocking off my main engines
glugg23
The first thing I will do is land on Duna and then start a base on Jool's moon Laythe.
swiftgates24
I havent read all 1500 posts, will the update break persistence files? Or craft files even? Somewhere Harv said so far persistence files are ok from .16 to .17 but I'm not sure you can say the same for ships.
what-the
The half 2 meter tank is equivalent of 4 full 1 meter tanks. Using the Aero-spike with the 2 meter half tank is a good combo. Makes for a good moon lander.
ForumHelper
I think we'll need to design a vessel capable of landing on water and then achieving orbit - One of Jool's moons is full of water. I'm working on one as I write this:http://imgur.com/a/nYOrF#0So far so good, now it's time to build a stage capable of doing a hohman's transfer and a launcher stage(which is no doubt going to be huge).Special thanks to szyzyg(also known as Scott Manley) for his awesome idea(two aerospike engines and detachable fuel tanks)! Jay_Em
Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the images released from .17? I'd rather not trawl through 140 pages to find them.
Mode7
Yeah, water landing has been going though my head since I heard about that moon. Thinking of making a sort of platform of fuel tanks or something for the craft to land on and then be able to take off from.

DonKamillo
Since Duna has a somewhat thin atmosphere, i guess braking with a chute won't be working to well. What do you think? Is the drag of the big parachute enough to bring you down safely, or do you need to rely on rockets?

DonKamillo
Oh, and has anyone else noticed this strut part on the decoupler from this post http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/12406-Show-off-your-awesome-KSP-Pictures?p=258884&viewfull=1#post258884 by nova? 0.17 new part or mod part?I think that may be the small struts from the probodobdyne pack with hullcameras mounted on them. Maybe he's going to add these to the game? who knows^^

To control it you enable engines that point in the direction you chose to go to. Vessel mass is ~80 tons(MechJeb stats) so it's not that heavy considering it can get into a circular 75km orbit around Kerbin. ForumHelper
Sure. Keep in mind that launching it into space is going to be really CPU-heavy. This craft requires MechJeb only. Other than that, it is stock.

Is the drag of the big parachute enough to bring you down safely, or do you need to rely on rockets?I was thinking that a parachute won't cut it. My first probe will go in with a parachute and rockets for landing. I think the parachute will help burn off speed but I don't think it will be enough to get down a safe landing speed. SargeRho
Both will probably be the most efficient method. That's also what they I think always have done IRL.
trollmylove
Why not both?yea if the planet has an atmosphere there's almost no excuse to NOT use parachutes to help slow you down so you can save fuel, which will be VERY important for interplanetary travel. TheRequimen
Wait...what would a persistence file be worth without ships? Conefuzed. If persistence files are fine, your ships will be fine. Though if you use mods, the update might break those and therefore any ships using said mods.
CaptRobau
Additionally, since the stock parts are wholly useless for interplanetary travel unless your Scott Manley I imagine that Squad will rebalance some of the stock parts to make that possible. Your ships might thus not fly the same as in 0.16 (even more likely if you take into account 0.16's fuel bug).
